Downtown Moab

Walk to dinner, drive to the arches

Mid-range $140-$320/night

This is the strip along Main Street between 100 North and 400 South, plus the side streets around Center and 100 West. You can walk to Milt's Stop & Eat for a green chile burger, grab coffee at Moab Garage Co., and end the night at Moab Brewery without moving the car. The Apache Motel and Bowen Motel are walkable to everything. The Aarchway Inn and Gonzo Inn sit a few blocks off Main with quieter rooms. From the Highway 191 and Main Street junction, the Arches entrance is 5 miles north, so figure 8 minutes by car if you leave before 7am.

Best for
First-time visitors who want food and shops within walking distance after a hot day in the park
Walk times
  • Moab Brewery on 400 South 2 min
  • Milt's Stop & Eat on 400 East 5 min
  • Moab Information Center at Main and Center 10 min
Skip if: You plan to be at the Delicate Arch trailhead before sunrise and hate any extra driving
Local tip: Park once and walk. The Main Street parking is free but fills by 6pm in May and September. Hotels with private lots like the Bowen save you the hunt.

North Highway 191

Closest paid beds to the entrance

Luxury $180-$360/night

The cluster of hotels between mile marker 128 and the Arches turnoff, including the Hyatt Place, Fairfield Inn, Hampton Inn, and Element Moab. These sit 1 to 3 miles north of downtown along Highway 191. The Arches entrance is a 4 to 7 minute drive depending on which property you pick. There is no walkable dinner scene here, so plan to drive 5 minutes back into Moab for food at places like Sabaku Sushi or 98 Center. The trade-off is morning speed. You can be at the Windows Section parking lot by 6:15am with a coffee in hand, which matters in summer when lots fill by 8am.

Best for
Photographers and hikers chasing sunrise at Delicate Arch or Devils Garden
Walk times
  • the Hyatt Place lobby coffee bar 3 min
  • No restaurants within 15 min
  • between neighboring hotel lots 5 min
Skip if: You want to drink at Moab Brewery and walk back to your room

Spanish Valley and South Moab

Quieter motels, lower rates

Mid-range $95-$190/night

The stretch of Highway 191 south of town from about 500 South down to the San Juan County line, including Spanish Valley Drive. The Big Horn Lodge, Inca Inn, and Sleep Inn sit here, along with several small motels and the Moab KOA further south. You give up walkability completely. Plan on a 10 to 12 minute drive to the Arches entrance and a 5 minute drive into downtown for food. Rates run $40 to $80 less than downtown in shoulder season, which adds up across a four-night trip. The valley itself is residential, so traffic noise is lower than the Highway 191 hotel strip.

Best for
Budget travelers and families who want a kitchen or grocery run for breakfast
Walk times
  • the City Market grocery on 400 East by car 8 min
  • the Arches entrance booth 12 min
Skip if: You only have one night and want to maximize time, not save $50

Devils Garden Campground

Sleep inside the park

Budget $25-$25/night

The only lodging inside Arches itself, 18 miles from the entrance at the end of the main park road. 51 sites, 7 walk-in tent spots, no hookups, no showers. You wake up to the rock fins and can hike Landscape Arch before any day-tripper arrives. Reservations open 6 months out on recreation.gov and the popular months sell out in minutes. Sites cost $25 a night. The nearest food is Moab, which is a 35 minute drive each way, so you bring everything in a cooler. Cell service is patchy. The Devils Garden trailhead is a 2 minute walk from the campground loop.

Best for
Tent campers who booked 6 months ahead and want sunrise on Landscape Arch alone
Walk times
  • Devils Garden trailhead 2 min
  • the Visitor Center by car 30 min
Skip if: You did not reserve in advance or you need a hot shower after hiking
