The Golden Triangle

Rodeo Drive two minutes from your room

The compact district bounded by Wilshire Blvd, Santa Monica Blvd, and Canon Drive holds the heaviest concentration of top hotels in Southern California. Dayton Way and Brighton Way put boutiques within five minutes of most lobbies. Spago sits at 176 N Canon. You will not need a car during the day. Evenings bring dinner options on N Beverly Drive without leaving the neighborhood at all.

Sunset Boulevard Corridor

Privacy, palms, and the Pink Palace

Budget $0-$0/night

The Beverly Hills Hotel at 9641 Sunset Blvd has anchored this stretch since 1912. Its 23 bungalows, set behind the main building, are the closest thing Los Angeles has to a genuine celebrity retreat. Canary Island palms line Sunset between N Beverly Drive and Coldwater Canyon. The Polo Lounge inside the hotel is a Beverly Hills institution worth one breakfast visit. Outside the hotel grounds, this corridor has few walkable amenities. You are here to be inside the property, not to explore the block. Benedict Canyon begins nearby and leads north toward hiking terrain with more elevation than most visitors expect.

Best for
Guests prioritizing privacythe classic Hollywood hotel experienceor full pool days without crowds
Walk times
  • Polo Lounge (on hotel grounds) 2 min
  • Sunset Strip (WeHo border at Doheny) 25 min
  • Trader Joe's at Beverly and Doheny 20 min
Skip if: You want to walk to restaurants, shops, or nightlife. This stretch of Sunset offers very little outside the hotel itself.
Local tip: Bungalow rates can run 30 to 40 percent lower if you call the reservations team directly on a weekday in January or early September. Online rates rarely reflect true availability pricing.

The Beverly Hilton at 9876 Wilshire hosts the Golden Globes each January. Saks Fifth Avenue is directly across the street. The stretch between La Cienega and the Beverly Hills city limit has fewer walkable restaurants than the Golden Triangle but strong connectivity to the Westside via ride-share. No valet extortion, street parking is possible, and you are still inside Beverly Hills city limits. Hotels here lack the brand cachet of the Triangle but deliver on comfort and value. What is the best area to stay in Beverly Hills for first-time visitors?

The Golden Triangle is the clear answer. You are two minutes from Rodeo Drive, ten minutes from Beverly Gardens Park, and six minutes from Neiman Marcus on foot. Rates start around $500 per night at the Beverly Wilshire and the Peninsula. If that is over budget, South Beverly Hills gives you a real Beverly Hills address for $180 to $380 per night with a 22-minute walk north to Rodeo Drive.

Is Beverly Hills walkable?

Only in the right parts. The Golden Triangle, roughly bounded by Wilshire, Santa Monica Blvd, and Canon Drive, is genuinely walkable for shopping and dining. The Beverly Hills Hotel area on Sunset is not. South Beverly Hills near Pico is walkable to local restaurants and Century City Mall. Beverly Hills has no Metro station, so anywhere outside the Triangle requires a car or ride-share for the rest of LA.

How far is Beverly Hills from LAX?

About 10 miles, which takes 25 to 50 minutes depending on traffic. A Lyft or Uber without surge pricing runs $40 to $60. The 405 to Wilshire is the standard route. Avoid arriving on Friday between 4 PM and 7 PM. The 10 freeway east to La Cienega north is sometimes faster than GPS suggests during peak hours.

What is a realistic hotel budget for Beverly Hills?

Golden Triangle luxury properties run $500 to $1,500 per night. Wilshire corridor hotels range from $380 to $700. South Beverly Hills and Pico-adjacent properties fall between $180 and $380. Add $50 to $80 per night for valet parking at most hotels in the Triangle. Budget $30 to $60 per person per day for meals if eating at local restaurants rather than hotel dining rooms.
