76 Country Boulevard (The Strip)

The neon spine of Branson, with every theater within reach.

Mid-range $80-$220/night

Highway 76 is the main vein of Branson, running roughly four miles from Gretna Road to Shepherd of the Hills Expressway. This is where you'll find the Sight & Sound Theatre, Mansion Theatre, Clay Cooper Theatre, and the Andy Williams Performing Arts Center. Hotels here are mostly mid-range chains and family-owned motels with pools and free breakfast. Traffic crawls during show times, especially around 7pm and after curtain calls. Stay on the eastern stretch near Gretna Road if you want quicker access to Highway 65. The western end near Shepherd of the Hills is closer to Silver Dollar City. It's loud, bright, and unapologetically touristy, which is the whole point.

Best for
First-time visitorsfamilies with kidsanyone planning three or more theater shows
Walk times
  • Sight & Sound Theatre 0 min
  • Mansion Theatre 0 min
  • Track Family Fun Park 5 min
Skip if: You hate traffic, want quiet evenings, or came for nature
Local tip: Book a hotel east of Gretna Road. The traffic light backups around the Hwy 76 and 376 junction can add 20 minutes to a 2-mile drive after shows let out.

Historic Downtown Branson

Old Branson, with brick storefronts and a real lake at the bottom of the hill.

Mid-range $110-$260/night

Downtown Branson sits along Lake Taneycomo, centered on Main Street and Commercial Street. Branson Landing stretches a half mile along the waterfront with the fountain show at the center. You'll walk to Dick's 5 & 10, Mr. G's Chicago Pizza, the Hollywood Wax Museum, and the Branson Scenic Railway depot. Hotels here include the Hilton Branson Convention Center and Hilton Promenade, both walkable to everything. Lake Taneycomo is a cold trout-fishing lake, not a swimming lake, so pack a sweater for evening walks. The vibe is calmer than the Strip but still busy on weekends. Parking gets tight near the Landing on Saturday nights.

Best for
Coupleswalkersanyone who wants to ditch the car after check-in
Walk times
  • Branson Landing fountain 5 min
  • Dick's 5 & 10 3 min
  • Branson Scenic Railway 5 min
Skip if: You want a pool-and-shows trip and don't care about waterfront
Local tip: The free trolley loops between the Landing and Branson's main attractions on weekends in summer. Park at your hotel, ride the trolley, skip the show-traffic mess on 76.

Table Rock Lake (Indian Point)

Wake up to water, drive five minutes to Silver Dollar City.

Mid-range $130-$320/night

Indian Point peninsula juts into Table Rock Lake about eight miles west of downtown, off Indian Point Road. Resorts like Still Waters Resort and Big Cedar Lodge sit on or near the shoreline with boat docks, lake views, and easy access to Silver Dollar City via Indian Point Road. Table Rock is a clear, deep reservoir built for swimming, boating, and bass fishing. Restaurants are limited out here, so plan to drive to McFarlain's at the IMAX or back to 76 for dinner. The State Park marina rents pontoons and ski boats. Mornings on the water are quiet, evenings get busy with returning boats. Cell service drops in some coves.

Best for
Boatersfamilies doing Silver Dollar Cityanyone who wants a real lake view
Walk times
  • Silver Dollar City 0 min
  • Table Rock State Park marina 0 min
  • Showboat Branson Belle 0 min
Skip if: You don't have a car or want to walk to dinner
Local tip: If Silver Dollar City is on your list, stay on Indian Point. The park's main lot fills by 10am in summer, but Indian Point hotels are a 5-minute drive in and you can leave for a midday lake break.

Hollister

Across the lake, half the price, ten minutes to everything.

Budget $70-$150/night

Hollister sits directly south of downtown Branson across Lake Taneycomo on Highway 65. Downing Street is the historic main drag with a few cafes and the old railroad depot. Most lodging is along Branson Hills Parkway and near the Highway 65 and 165 interchange. You'll find chain hotels like Hampton Inn, Best Western, and Holiday Inn Express at noticeably lower rates than the Strip. The drive to Branson Landing is about 5 minutes over the Lake Taneycomo bridge, and the Strip is 10 to 15 minutes depending on traffic. It's residential and quiet at night, which is either a feature or a bug depending on your trip.

Best for
Budget-conscious travelersreturn visitors who know the arealonger stays
Walk times
  • Downing Street historic district 0 min
  • Branson Landing 0 min
  • 76 Strip 0 min
Skip if: This is your first Branson trip and you want to feel the action
Local tip: Book Hollister hotels with a Branson Hills Parkway address. They're closer to the Highway 65 ramp, which means a faster shot to both downtown and Silver Dollar City than hotels deeper into Hollister proper.

What's the best area in Branson for first-time visitors?

The 76 Country Boulevard Strip. Most theaters, attractions, and restaurants sit along this 4-mile stretch, so you'll spend less time driving and more time doing. Stay east of Gretna Road for easier highway access.

Where should I stay in Branson without a car?

Historic Downtown Branson around the Landing. You can walk to 30+ shops, restaurants, the fountain show, and Lake Taneycomo. The free summer trolley reaches other parts of town on weekends, so a carless trip actually works here.

How close is Silver Dollar City to Branson hotels?

From Indian Point on Table Rock Lake it's a 5 to 10 minute drive on Indian Point Road. From the 76 Strip it's 15 to 20 minutes via Shepherd of the Hills Expressway. From downtown or Hollister, plan on 20 to 25 minutes.

Is Hollister cheaper than Branson and is it worth it?

Yes, hotel rates run roughly 30 to 40 percent lower than equivalent Strip hotels. Worth it if you have a car and don't mind a 10-minute drive to Branson Landing or 15 minutes to the Strip. Not worth it if you wanted to walk out of your hotel into the action.
