Harbor Boulevard Core

The walkable strip where most families stay, and for good reason

Budget $0-$0/night

Harbor Boulevard is Disneyland's front door. The resort entrance sits directly on this street, between Disney Way to the north and Katella Avenue to the south. Properties along this half-mile stretch are the only ones in Anaheim where you genuinely walk to the gate without a shuttle or Uber. The sidewalk from most rooms to the turnstiles takes 8 to 12 minutes. ART buses stop every block if your legs give out. Mornings here are chaotic in the best way: strollers, character ears, families moving in one direction. Nights are louder than you expect, especially weekends when the fireworks crowd disperses onto Harbor. The side streets, like Freedman Way and South Clementine Street, run parallel and stay quieter while keeping the same walk time. If you want zero logistics on park days, this strip delivers. Budget at least $200 per night for anything decent during peak season.

Best for
families with young kidsfirst-time visitorscar-free trips
Walk times
  • Disneyland main gate 10 min
  • California Adventure entrance 13 min
  • Downtown Disney 8 min
Skip if: You want quiet evenings. Harbor is loud until midnight on weekends with shuttle traffic and foot crowds dispersing after fireworks.
Local tip: Cross to the west side of Harbor Boulevard. The east side has more traffic lights and slower crossings. West side gets you to the gate about 2 minutes faster every morning.

Disneyland Drive West Side

Quieter, closer to California Adventure, underrated by most planners

Budget $0-$0/night

Disneyland Drive runs along the western edge of the resort, separating the park property from a quieter stretch of commercial and residential streets. This side sees a fraction of the foot traffic compared to Harbor. California Adventure's entrance is accessible via the Downtown Disney walk-through from here. From properties on Disneyland Drive or nearby South Walnut Street and Magic Way, it is about 5 minutes to the Downtown Disney west entrance and 3 more minutes into California Adventure. Reaching Disneyland main gate adds roughly 10 to 12 minutes walking through Downtown Disney. A small cluster of properties on Walnut Street offer genuine mid-range pricing without the Harbor Boulevard premium. One real downside: dining options thin out fast west of Disneyland Drive. You are looking at a 10-minute walk to find anything beyond quick service. Works best when California Adventure is your priority park for the trip.

Best for
California Adventure fansadults visiting without kidsrepeat visitors who know the layout
Walk times
  • California Adventure entrance 8 min
  • Disneyland main gate 15 min
  • Downtown Disney 5 min
Skip if: You are visiting Disneyland park only and not California Adventure. The extra 5 minutes each way through Downtown Disney adds up over a multi-day trip.
Local tip: The walk through Downtown Disney before park opening is genuinely pleasant. Less crowded than Harbor, and coffee inside Downtown Disney is faster than the lines you will hit on Harbor before rope drop.

Ball Road Corridor

Honest budget territory, 25 minutes walk or 8 minutes on ART

Budget $0-$0/night

Ball Road runs east-west about one mile north of the Disneyland main gate. Properties cluster along this stretch between Harbor Boulevard and Anaheim Boulevard, and the walk from here to the park entrance is 20 to 25 minutes on flat sidewalk. Nobody with small children should attempt it. ART (Anaheim Resort Transit) runs a day pass from most Ball Road properties directly to the resort. The bus takes about 8 minutes and drops you at the transportation hub on Harbor. Prices here run $90 to $170 per night, a real $60 to $80 savings over the Harbor Core for one simple trade-off: you need the ART or a car every day. The upside beyond cost is actual local food. Korean BBQ spots near Anaheim Boulevard and Filipino restaurants along Ball Road itself beat anything near the park gates at roughly half the price. If you have a car and want to save $60 per night, this corridor delivers.

Best for
budget travelers with a caradult groupsanyone staying 3 or more nights
Walk times
  • Disneyland main gate 22 min
  • ART bus stop at Harbor and Ball 3 min
  • Anaheim GardenWalk (400 W Disney Way) 18 min
Skip if: You have toddlers and no car. Walking Ball Road to the park with a stroller and no ART pass will ruin every morning of your trip.
Local tip: Buy ART passes at rideart.org before you arrive. Purchasing at hotel desks or resort kiosks costs more. A family of four saves around $90 over three days versus daily Uber round trips from this area.

Katella Avenue

Best value in the walkable zone, better for adults than families

Budget $0-$0/night

Katella Avenue marks the southern perimeter of the Disneyland Resort, running east-west past the Anaheim Convention Center. Properties on Katella between Harbor Boulevard and South Clementine Street sit 12 to 18 minutes walk from the Disneyland main gate, heading north on Harbor. The Convention Center drives steady business travel demand year-round, which keeps pricing competitive even during peak Disney season. Walk north from the Katella and Harbor intersection and you hit the resort perimeter in under 10 minutes. Prices run $140 to $280 per night, a genuine notch below Harbor Core pricing for 5 to 6 extra minutes on foot. Katella works better for adults and couples than families with small children. The area around South Clementine Street has a growing dining scene, with Japanese and Thai restaurants that beat theme park food at about a third of the price. Nights are meaningfully quieter than Harbor Boulevard. Good pick for park-and-relax travelers.

Best for
adults and couplesconference attendees adding a park daytravelers who prioritize quiet evenings over walk time
Walk times
  • Disneyland main gate 15 min
  • California Adventure entrance 13 min
  • Anaheim Convention Center 5 min
Skip if: You are planning rope drop every morning. The 15-minute walk adds real cumulative time when you are doing it twice a day with kids who have tired legs by noon.
Local tip: The stretch of Katella between Clementine and Harbor has faster rideshare pickup than Harbor Boulevard because drivers can stop without blocking the main traffic flow. Useful for late nights out of the park.

Garden Grove

Cheapest option in the area, car or rideshare required every day

Budget $0-$0/night

Garden Grove sits 2 to 3 miles south of Disneyland via Harbor Boulevard. You cannot walk to the park. That is the full story. Rideshare runs $12 to $15 each way, adding $24 to $30 per day per couple to your actual trip cost, which closes the savings gap quickly on a two-day visit. ART does not serve Garden Grove, so rideshare or a personal vehicle is mandatory every park day. What you get for that inconvenience: properties starting at $70 per night with free parking, real savings on a 4 or 5 night trip. Chapman Avenue and the Harbor Boulevard stretch through Garden Grove have dense clusters of budget properties. The surrounding neighborhood is one of the best Vietnamese and Korean food corridors in Southern California, with banh mi, pho, and Korean BBQ well under $15 per person. Skip Garden Grove for one-night visits. Worth serious consideration for anything longer if you have a car and you budget carefully.

Best for
budget travelers with a carfamilies on a tight budget staying 3 or more nightstravelers who care more about local food than proximity
Walk times
  • Disneyland main gate 0 min
  • Chapman Ave dining corridor 5 min
  • Nearest ART stop 0 min
Skip if: You are visiting for one night, do not have a car, or have young children who will fall apart in a rideshare queue after a full park day.
Local tip: Pho 79 on Brookhurst Street in Garden Grove is a 10-minute drive from most properties and widely considered one of the best pho spots in the country. Worth it after a long park day.

What is the closest area to walk to Disneyland?

Harbor Boulevard Core is the closest walkable area. Properties there sit 8 to 12 minutes from the Disneyland main gate on Harbor Boulevard itself. Disneyland Drive West Side is comparable for California Adventure, at about 8 minutes to that entrance. Anything north of Disney Way or south of Katella adds meaningful walk time. Ball Road properties are 20 to 25 minutes on foot, and Garden Grove is not walkable at all at 2 to 3 miles.

Is Harbor Boulevard really worth the higher price?

For families with young kids visiting 2 or more days, yes. Eliminating shuttle waits and Uber queues before early rope drop is worth $40 to $60 extra per night. For adults visiting one day or for anyone with a car, probably not. Katella Avenue offers nearly the same walk time for $40 to $80 less per night. Ball Road is fine if you commit to ART daily. Harbor's premium is real, but so is the convenience on a 4-day family trip with small children.

How much does ART cost from Ball Road to Disneyland?

ART (Anaheim Resort Transit) costs around $5 per person per day for unlimited rides. Check current pricing at rideart.org before you arrive, as fares are updated periodically. The route from Ball Road and Harbor stops directly at the resort transportation hub. The bus takes 8 minutes. A family of four pays about $20 per day for ART compared to roughly $50 to $60 in rideshare round trips. Over a 3-day trip, ART saves a family roughly $90 to $120 versus daily rideshare from Ball Road properties.

Can you walk from Garden Grove to Disneyland?

No. Garden Grove is 2 to 3 miles south via Harbor Boulevard, roughly a 45 to 55 minute walk. Rideshare costs $12 to $15 each way. ART does not serve Garden Grove. Factor $24 to $30 per day in transport costs for a couple. On a 5-night trip, the savings from Garden Grove pricing versus Harbor Core can still exceed transport costs by $200 or more, but you need a car or must be comfortable with rideshare logistics every single day.

Which area is best for visiting California Adventure?

Disneyland Drive West Side is the best base if California Adventure is your priority park. Properties there are 8 minutes from the DCA entrance via Downtown Disney's west side. Harbor Boulevard Core is second at 13 minutes. Katella Avenue is 13 minutes as well via the esplanade. If you are splitting time evenly between both parks, Harbor or Katella is more central. If DCA is your main focus, the Disneyland Drive area is worth paying slightly more than comparable Katella properties.
