01

LoDo (Lower Downtown)

The best address in Denver, full stop

Budget $0-$0/night

LoDo runs between Wynkoop Street and 20th Street, anchored by the century-old Union Station at 17th and Wynkoop. Blake Street and Larimer Street pack in brewpubs, rooftop bars, and solid restaurants within a short walk of each other. Coors Field is 4 minutes up Blake Street. The converted warehouse bones give hotels like The Crawford Hotel inside Union Station and Maven Hotel on 19th real character. Larimer Square, the free 16th Street Mall shuttle, and Ball Arena are all walkable. Weekends get loud on game nights near the ballpark. It is the most walkable, most social corner of the city.

Central Business District (CBD)

Convention center country with everything on tap

Budget $0-$0/night

The CBD runs from 14th Street to 20th Street along Glenarm Place and Stout Street. The Colorado Convention Center sits at 14th and California Street. The Denver Art Museum is 8 minutes south on 14th Avenue Parkway. Big properties dominate here: Hyatt Regency on California, Sheraton on 15th, Hilton on Court Place. Rooms are large, amenities are extensive, and rates drop hard on weekends when business travelers leave. The 16th Street Mall free shuttle connects north to LoDo and south to Civic Center in minutes. Less atmosphere than LoDo, but genuinely convenient for everything downtown.

Capitol Hill

Budget-smart and still central

Budget $0-$0/night

Capitol Hill starts at Broadway and runs east toward Cheesman Park, centered on Colfax Avenue and 13th Avenue. The Colorado State Capitol stands at East Colfax and Grant Street. This area has Denver's best vintage shops, local dive bars, and cheap eats. The Bluebird Theater on East Colfax books indie bands most nights. Hotels and short-term rentals here run significantly cheaper than LoDo. You need a 10-minute Lyft or bike-share to reach Union Station, but the savings are real. Good pick for solo travelers or anyone spending most days at Red Rocks or in the mountains.

RiNo (River North Art District)

Denver's creative district with serious restaurant cred

Budget $0-$0/night

RiNo runs along Brighton Boulevard and Larimer Street between 25th and 40th Avenue, north of downtown proper. Odell Brewing, Ratio Beerworks, and The Source Hotel anchor the neighborhood on Brighton. Larimer Street here is all murals, galleries, and chef-driven restaurants. The A Line commuter rail stops at 38th and Blake, connecting directly to Denver International Airport. It is a 15-minute walk or quick rideshare to LoDo. The Source Hotel and Ramble Hotel on Walnut Street are genuinely excellent. If you care about food and design more than proximity to Coors Field, this beats central downtown.

What is the best area to stay in downtown Denver?

LoDo wins for most visitors. You are 3 minutes from Union Station, 5 minutes from Coors Field, and surrounded by the city's best bars and restaurants on Blake and Larimer Streets. Expect to pay $150-320 per night. If budget is the priority, Capitol Hill cuts that in half with a 10-minute rideshare back to LoDo.

Is it safe to walk around downtown Denver at night?

LoDo and the CBD are safe and lively at night, especially around Blake Street, Wynkoop, and the 16th Street Mall. Avoid the blocks east of 16th Street Mall between Champa and California after 10pm. Capitol Hill along East Colfax gets rough past midnight. Stick to 13th Avenue instead for a much quieter walk.

How far is downtown Denver from the airport?

About 35 minutes via the A Line commuter rail from Denver International Airport to Union Station in LoDo. One-way fare is $10.50. Rideshares run $35-55 depending on traffic. The train is faster and cheaper. From RiNo, catch the A Line at 38th and Blake Street, a 10-minute walk from most hotels there.

Which downtown Denver neighborhood has the cheapest hotels?

Capitol Hill starts around $75 per night, significantly cheaper than LoDo at $150 or the CBD at $120. The trade-off is walking distance: 18 minutes on foot to the 16th Street Mall. For a middle ground, CBD hotel rates drop 30 to 40 percent on weekends when business travelers leave, putting a $200 Tuesday room at $130 on Saturday.
