Historic Downtown

Victorian walking village, no car required

Mid-range $110-$220/night

Spring Street and Center Street form the walkable core of Eureka Springs. Basin Spring Park anchors the bottom of the hill at the intersection of Spring and Fountain, surrounded by galleries, wine bars, and restaurants within 200 steps of each other. The Basin Park Hotel at 12 Spring Street is a local landmark where every floor opens at street level on a different side of the building, because the hillside forces it. Dinner at Local Flavor Cafe on Center Street, a nightcap at Chelsea's on Pine Street, and live music drifting out of multiple venues on weekends. You never need a car if you are staying within two blocks of Spring Street. Book a room with a balcony. Foggy Ozark mornings over the valley are what people come back for.

Best for

Walk times
  • Basin Spring Park 2 min
  • 1886 Crescent Hotel via trolley 8 min
  • Eureka Springs Historical Museum on South Main 6 min
Skip if: You need quiet after 10pm. Live music carries from the bars on Spring Street through the weekend

Crescent Hill (Upper Eureka)

Grand views, the most famous address in town

Mid-range $140-$280/night

Prospect Avenue runs along the top of the ridge and holds the 1886 Crescent Hotel at 75 Prospect Avenue, arguably the most photographed building in Arkansas. The surrounding B&Bs and small inns along Crescent Drive and Sycamore Street cater to couples celebrating anniversaries and guests who want wraparound porches with valley panoramas. The neighborhood is almost entirely Victorian-era homes converted to lodging. It is quieter than downtown at night, which is the point. The tradeoff is a steep 20-minute walk or a short drive down to Spring Street for dinner. The Crescent's own restaurant, Crystal Dining Room, does a reliable Sunday brunch worth booking at least a week in advance during peak season between April and October.

Best for
Coupleshistory enthusiastsanyone visiting specifically to stay near or at the 1886 Crescent Hotel
Walk times
  • Downtown Spring Street 20 min
  • Basin Spring Park 22 min
  • Crescent Hotel from neighboring inns 5 min
Skip if: You have mobility issues or prefer not to navigate steep, narrow roads after dark
Local tip: The Crescent runs ghost tours on Friday and Saturday nights. Even if you are skeptical, the Victorian ballroom and 1886 basement are worth the $18 ticket for the architecture alone.

West Mountain

Quiet hillside B&Bs, close enough to walk to galleries

Mid-range $95-$185/night

West Mountain sits across a wooded ravine from downtown, connected by the historic trolley route and accessible via Benton Street and Park Avenue. Streets here including Carroll Street and Douglas Street are mostly residential Victorian cottages converted to small B&Bs and vacation rentals. The density is lower, the porches are larger, and the sound of Spring Street bars does not carry this far. Most properties have kitchenettes. The Eureka Springs Farmers Market runs Saturday mornings on Spring Street, about a 12-minute walk downhill. The co-op downtown stocks local produce mid-week. Parking is easier here than anywhere else in town, which matters if you are doing day trips to the Buffalo National River or Beaver Lake.

Best for
Couples wanting privacyreturn visitors who know the townanyone who prefers a porch and a hammock to a hotel lobby
Walk times
  • Downtown Spring Street 12 min
  • Eureka Springs Farmers Market on Spring Street 12 min
  • Basin Spring Park 15 min
Skip if: You want to walk back from late-night food or drinks without a steep uphill return
Local tip: Carroll Street has three consecutive B&Bs within half a block. If your first choice is full, ask the owner directly for a referral. Local recommendations here beat anything on a booking platform.

Highway 62 Corridor

Budget-friendly, car-dependent, near Thorncrown Chapel

Budget $65-$155/night

East Van Buren, US Highway 62, is Eureka Springs before it turns Victorian. Motels, a Holiday Inn Express, and a handful of resort-style properties line the road between the edge of downtown and the Great Passion Play Amphitheater on Passion Play Road. The outdoor drama draws around 70,000 visitors a year, and most hotels in this corridor exist to serve that crowd. Thorncrown Chapel at 12968 AR-62 West, a stunning wood and glass structure by architect Fay Jones, is five minutes by car and worth the entire trip on its own. Ozark Mountain Ziplines and the trails at Lake Leatherwood City Park are both accessible without driving through downtown. The math is simple: $70 versus $160 per night, and you drive to dinner.

Best for
Budget travelersfamilies with kidsvisitors coming primarily for the Great Passion Play or outdoor Ozark activities
Walk times
  • Great Passion Play Amphitheater on Passion Play Road 10 min
  • Downtown Spring Street by car 8 min
  • Thorncrown Chapel by car 5 min
Skip if: You want the walkable Victorian village experience that makes Eureka Springs different from every other town in the Ozarks
Local tip: The Crescent Hotel trolley extends to Hwy 62 stops in summer. Check the printed schedule at the Basin Park Hotel trolley stop before paying for downtown parking.

What is the best area to stay in Eureka Springs for first-time visitors?

Historic Downtown, within two blocks of Spring Street and Basin Spring Park. You walk to every gallery, restaurant, and bar without a car. The Basin Park Hotel sits at 12 Spring Street, right at the park. Rates run $110 to $220 per night but you skip parking fees entirely.

How many nights do you need in Eureka Springs?

Two nights covers it well. First night: walk downtown and catch live music at Chelsea's on Pine Street. Second day: drive out to Thorncrown Chapel on Hwy 62 West, then tour the 1886 Crescent Hotel. Three nights makes sense if you are hiking at Lake Leatherwood City Park or attending the Great Passion Play on Passion Play Road.

How far is the 1886 Crescent Hotel from downtown Eureka Springs?

The Crescent at 75 Prospect Avenue is about one mile from Basin Spring Park. Walking uphill takes 18 to 22 minutes. The historic trolley makes the trip in 8 minutes during operating season. Most guests take the trolley up and walk down after dinner.

Are there chain hotels in Eureka Springs, Arkansas?

Almost none inside the historic district. The Highway 62 corridor east of downtown has a Holiday Inn Express and several independent motels. Downtown and Crescent Hill are entirely B&Bs, inns, and boutique properties. If you want a predictable chain experience, book on Hwy 62 and drive in. If you want what makes Eureka Springs unusual, stay downtown.
