Where to Stay for Arches National Park

Moab has four distinct zones for park visitors. Each trades something off. Here is how to pick the right one.

01

Downtown Moab

Best access to food, gear, and nightlife after the park closes

Mid-range $130-$280/night

Main Street between Center Street and 400 North is where most visitors land, and it works. You are a 10-minute drive from the Arches entrance kiosk, with Moab Diner, Desert Bistro, and Eddie McStiff's on the same block as gear shops like Gearheads. Parking is tight from May through October. Bar noise on 100 South carries until midnight. Hotels like the Hoodoo Moab on Center Street and the Best Western Plus Canyonlands Inn on North Main Street anchor this zone. If you need food variety and the option to walk for a cold beer after a hot trail day, this is your zone. Expect to pay a summer premium versus anywhere else in the region.

Best for
First-time visitors who want walkable dininggear shopsand social energy after hiking
Walk times
  • Moab restaurants on Main Street 5 min
  • Colorado River access at Rotary Park 12 min
  • Arches National Park entrance (drive only) 10 min
Skip if: You go to bed before 10pm or need silence after long days on trail
Local tip: Book on 100 North rather than 100 South. Same price bracket, half the bar noise, and easier parking off Kane Creek Road in the morning.

North Moab (Highway 191 Corridor)

Closest beds to the park entrance, no detours at 5am

Mid-range $95-$210/night

The stretch of US-191 from mile marker 126 to mile marker 130, just south of the Arches entrance kiosk, holds most of the highway properties. You are 2 to 5 miles from the gate. The Hampton Inn Moab and several independent motels sit in this band. No walkable restaurants exist here. You drive into downtown or eat at your property. But when you want to beat the summer crowds to Delicate Arch before 7am, you roll out in under 8 minutes flat. Road noise from 18-wheelers on 191 is constant. Request a room on the west side facing the sandstone cliffs. Saves the frustration of a 6am diesel engine outside your window.

Best for
Early risers targeting sunrise at Delicate Archanyone doing multiple consecutive park days
Walk times
  • Arches National Park entrance (drive) 5 min
  • Moab downtown restaurants (drive) 12 min
  • Moab Giants dinosaur tracks (walk) 4 min
Skip if: You want walkable dining or a quieter setting away from highway traffic
Local tip: Gas up the night before at Maverik on US-191 near Moab Giants. The park has zero services inside, and a full tank saves a 25-minute round trip.

Spanish Valley

Quiet, residential, and the only real budget corridor in peak season

Budget $75-$165/night

Drive 4 miles south of downtown on US-191, turn onto Spanish Valley Drive, and the resort-style properties and vacation rentals begin. The Moab Springs Ranch operates here. Rates run 20 to 40 dollars cheaper per night than Main Street equivalents in July. Three sides of red rock canyon frame the valley. Mill Creek runs through the area and offers free swimming holes accessible mid-spring through early summer. You drive for everything including coffee. Families on longer trips, budget-conscious hikers, and repeat Moab visitors who know the town well find the space and lower rates more than worth it. The Moab Cliffrose Cooper Creek adds a few mid-range notches to the southern end.

Best for
Budget travelersfamiliesand anyone staying three or more nights who knows how to plan around driving
Walk times
  • Mill Creek swimming hole (short drive or long walk) 15 min
  • Downtown Moab restaurants (drive) 10 min
  • Arches National Park entrance (drive) 20 min
Skip if: You want to minimize driving or need proximity to the park entrance for early morning starts
Local tip: Moonflower Canyon trailhead is a 5-minute walk from most Spanish Valley properties. A solid 45-minute sunset hike with almost no crowds even in peak July.

Colorado Riverway

Scenic canyon setting, genuine luxury, farther from everything

Luxury $200-$550/night

Kane Creek Boulevard follows the Colorado River west from downtown and hooks into the River Road (Utah-128) heading northeast. Red Cliffs Lodge sits at mile 14 on the river road inside a working cattle ranch and vineyard with canyon walls rising 800 feet on both sides. Sorrel River Ranch at mile 17 is the clearest full-service luxury property near Moab, with horseback rides, a spa, and direct river access. Both sit 30 to 35 minutes from the Arches gate. The tradeoff for the most dramatic landscape backdrop in the region is that you drive everywhere for meals. Pack your own wine. The road is too far out for a casual dinner run, and that is part of the deal.

Best for
Couplesanniversary tripsand travelers who want the landscape itself to be part of the lodging experience
Walk times
  • Colorado River bank 2 min
  • Moab downtown (drive) 25 min
  • Arches National Park entrance (drive) 35 min
Skip if: You want quick park access or multiple dining options each night without committing to a long drive
Local tip: Request east-facing rooms at Red Cliffs Lodge. Morning light hits Fisher Towers directly across the river. Worth the upgrade call when you book.

Can you stay inside Arches National Park?

No lodging exists inside the park. The only overnight option is Devils Garden Campground at the north end of the scenic drive, with 50 sites at $25 per night. Reservations open months out on recreation.gov and sell out in under a minute for July and August dates. Everyone else bases in Moab, 5 miles south.

How far is Moab from the Arches National Park entrance?

Downtown Moab is about 5 miles from the entrance kiosk, a 10-minute drive north on US-191. The North Moab motel corridor cuts that to under 5 minutes. Spanish Valley adds 10 more minutes from the south. Colorado Riverway resorts run 30 to 35 minutes depending on which property you book.

Which area is best for beating summer crowds at Delicate Arch?

North Moab on the Highway 191 corridor. You are 5 minutes from the gate, and the Wolfe Ranch trailhead for Delicate Arch sits 13 miles inside the park. Arriving before 7am in summer skips the timed-entry requirements that apply from 7am to 4pm. Hotels in this band put you in position without a detour through downtown.

How expensive are hotels in Moab in summer?

Very. July and August rates run 40 to 60 percent above shoulder season prices. Standard downtown rooms peak around $250 to $280 per night. Spanish Valley brings that closer to $140 to $165. Book at least 3 months out for July dates. May and September offer the best balance of weather and pricing, typically $100 to $185 for mid-range properties.
