01

Ibiza Town (Eivissa)

UNESCO old city, best restaurants, everything walkable

Mid-range $150-$400/night

Ibiza Town is the island's capital and the most flexible base. The UNESCO-listed Dalt Vila sits on a hill above the marina, with Carrer Major and the Cathedral at the top. Below it, Passeig de ses Fonts is lined with serious restaurants and bars. Carrer de la Verge in Sa Penya is the LGBTQ+ heart of the island. Talamanca beach is 15 minutes on foot. Figueretes is 10 minutes south. Taxis to Pacha cost under $10. This is where Ibiza gets expensive fast, especially in July and August.

Best for
Couplesculture loversanyone who wants walkable access to restaurants and nightlife without being in the thick of party chaos
Walk times
  • Dalt Vila castle walls 5 min
  • Talamanca beach 15 min
  • Pacha nightclub 12 min
Skip if: You are on a tight budget or need a beach on your doorstep. Hotels here are pricey and the nearest sandy beach is a 15-minute walk.
Local tip: Book a room facing the harbor, not the inland side. The sunrise over the marina from a terrace is one of the best free experiences on the island.

San Antonio (Sant Antoni de Portmany)

Sunset Strip, party hub, cheapest beds on the island

Mid-range $80-$200/night

San Antonio splits into two very different zones. The West End around Carrer Santa Agnes is all British pubs and cheap shots. Avoid it unless that is exactly what you want. The Sunset Strip along Avinguda Doctor Fleming is something else entirely. Cafe del Mar and Cafe Mambo sit here, and the sunsets over Punta des Molins are genuinely spectacular. Budget hotels cluster around the port on Passeig de ses Fonts. The northern headland near Hostal La Torre draws a slightly older crowd. Buses to Ibiza Town run every 30 minutes and cost about $2.

Best for
Budget travelersparty groupsanyone who wants the sunset ritual without paying Ibiza Town prices
Walk times
  • Sunset Strip at Cafe del Mar 8 min
  • San Antonio beach 5 min
  • West End bar strip 6 min
Skip if: You want a quiet holiday. San Antonio is noisy until 4am in peak season even away from the West End.
Local tip: Stay north of the port above Carrer Cervantes to get the cheapest rooms while keeping clear of the loudest bars. The local bus to Ibiza Town takes 35 minutes.

Santa Eulalia (Santa Eularia des Riu)

Families, genuine restaurants, the calm side of Ibiza

Mid-range $100-$250/night

Santa Eulalia is the island's third-largest town and the one that feels like a real place. The marina on Passeig de s'Alamera has proper Ibizan restaurants rather than tourist traps. Platja de Santa Eulalia is clean and sheltered with calm water, good for children. Carrer de Sant Jaume in the old town has tapas bars that locals still use. The hippy market at nearby Es Canar runs every Wednesday morning. Resort hotels spread along the coast toward Cala Llenya. Rent a scooter here and day trips to Cala Nova and Cala Mastella take under 20 minutes.

Best for
Families with childrencouples who want good food and beaches without club noiseanyone staying more than a week
Walk times
  • Santa Eulalia beach 8 min
  • Marina restaurants 5 min
  • Town center market 10 min
Skip if: You came for nightlife. Santa Eulalia is almost entirely quiet after midnight. Getting to clubs in Ibiza Town requires a taxi costing around $30 each way.
Local tip: Eat at Can Cosmi in Santa Gertrudis, 20 minutes inland, for the best tortilla on the island. Go at lunch. The village square fills by 1pm.

Playa d'en Bossa

Beach club strip, closest beds to Ushuaia and Hi Ibiza

Mid-range $120-$350/night

Playa d'en Bossa is a 2km straight beach with the densest concentration of beach clubs in Europe. Bora Bora, Ushuaia and Hi Ibiza are all within a 10-minute walk of each other along the main coastal road. The beach itself is wide and sandy, though very loud from June through September. Hotels range from the Hard Rock Hotel at the north end to budget aparthotels near Platja des Cavallet in the south. Ibiza Town is 10 minutes by taxi. The airport is 5 minutes. This is the right base if you are here primarily for electronic music events.

Best for
Music festival attendeesbeach club regularsgroups who want to roll out of bed onto the sand and into a party
Walk times
  • Ushuaia beach club 8 min
  • Ibiza airport 10 min
  • Platja des Cavallet nudist beach 20 min
Skip if: You want a quiet beach. This strip is one of the loudest in the Mediterranean from June to September. Families and couples seeking calm should look elsewhere.
Local tip: Book at the southern end near Ses Salines. It is 15 minutes walk from the clubs but noticeably quieter at night and closer to the best naturist beach on the island.

Where should first-timers stay in Ibiza?

Ibiza Town gives you the most flexibility. You walk to Dalt Vila, the marina and good restaurants. Taxis to any club are under $15. It costs more than San Antonio but you avoid the West End noise and you are not locked into one vibe. Book in the Sa Penya or Marina quarter for the best access to everything.

Which area in Ibiza is best for families?

Santa Eulalia is the clear choice. Platja de Santa Eulalia is calm and shallow, the town has supermarkets and a proper promenade, and it goes quiet after 10pm. Hotels run $100-250 in peak season. Avoid Playa d'en Bossa and San Antonio entirely if you have young children.

Is San Antonio cheaper than Ibiza Town?

Yes, noticeably. Budget rooms in San Antonio start around $80 in July, while comparable rooms in Ibiza Town start at $150-180. The trade-off is noise. San Antonio's West End is relentless in August. Stay on the north side of town near the Sunset Strip and it is more manageable.

How far is Playa d'en Bossa from Ibiza airport?

About 5 minutes by taxi, which costs $10-12. It is the closest major resort area to the airport. The downside is that it sits near the flight path and you will hear planes during the day in peak season. Noise from the beach clubs continues well past midnight.
