Page, Arizona

The practical hub for most Lake Powell visitors

Mid-range $80-$250/night

Page sits on a mesa 3 miles from Wahweap Marina, and Lake Powell Blvd is where most of the action happens. Budget chains like Best Western and Hampton cluster near the US-89 junction. Navajo Drive heads south toward Horseshoe Bend Road. You have a Walmart, a handful of real restaurants, and fast morning access to Antelope Canyon tours that leave from operators on Lake Powell Blvd by 7am. It is not scenic. It is efficient. Rooms run $80 to $180 in shoulder season and hit $250 in July. Book at least 6 weeks out for summer weekends.

Walk times
  • Horseshoe Bend trailhead 20 min
  • Restaurants on Lake Powell Blvd 5 min
  • Walmart on Elm St 8 min

Local tip: Slackers on North Navajo Drive opens at 6:30am. Eat there before any Antelope Canyon tour. Every tour operator on the main strip sells out before 8am in June.

Wahweap Marina

On the water, five minutes from Page

Mid-range $150-$350/night

Wahweap is the primary launch point for Lake Powell, 5 miles from Page via Lakeshore Drive. Lake Powell Resort is the only full hotel here, with lake-view balconies and a pool directly above the marina. Boat rentals, Rainbow Bridge tours, and houseboat launches all depart from Wahweap dock. The tradeoff is sharp: one overpriced on-site restaurant, no walkable town, and rooms at $150 to $350 per night depending on season. Nothing cheaper exists at this address. Parking at the boat ramp fills by 7am on summer weekends. For the lake-at-sunrise experience, this is the only address that delivers.

Best for

Walk times
  • Wahweap boat ramp 5 min
  • Marina store off Lakeshore Drive 3 min
  • Wahweap beach cove 8 min
Skip if: You are watching costs or need more than one dinner option
Local tip: Request a third-floor east-facing room at Lake Powell Resort. Sunrise over the red rock buttes from that balcony is the best free thing at this address.

Bullfrog Marina, Utah

Remote, quiet, and on the north half of the lake

Mid-range $100-$200/night

Bullfrog sits 100 miles north of Page on the Utah side, reached via UT-276 off US-95. It is genuinely remote. The Bullfrog Resort off Bullfrog Bay Road has basic motel units, an RV park, and a small marina store. A cafe serves breakfast and burgers, and that is the full dining scene. Houseboat rentals launch here for the upper lake. No chain hotels exist within 60 miles. Henry Mountains rise to the east and crowds are a fraction of Wahweap. Cell service is minimal. Fuel up in Hanksville. Rooms run $100 to $200 through Aramark. Many visitors camp instead.

Best for
Houseboat groupssolitude seekersUtah canyon explorers doing the upper lake
Walk times
  • Bullfrog Marina boat launch 5 min
  • Bullfrog visitor center on Bullfrog Bay Rd 6 min
  • Bullfrog Resort cafe 3 min
Skip if: You need reliable internet, multiple restaurants, or airport proximity
Local tip: The Bullfrog to Halls Crossing ferry saves a 120-mile drive around the lake. The crossing takes 20 minutes. Check the seasonal schedule at nps.gov before building any loop itinerary around it.

Kanab, Utah

Best regional hub for combining Lake Powell with multiple parks

Mid-range $90-$200/night

Kanab is 75 miles north of Page on US-89 and makes sense if your trip covers Grand Staircase, Zion, or Bryce alongside Lake Powell. Center Street and 100 South have independent motels and small hotels priced 20 to 30 percent below Page in peak season. You get real restaurants, a coffee shop, and a growing number of boutique properties. The BLM Wave lottery office is here. Coral Pink Sand Dunes are 20 minutes west. Lake Powell is a 75-minute drive south. Kanab is not a lake base but it is the smartest hub for a multi-park southern Utah road trip.

Best for
Multi-park road trippersbudget travelersWave permit holders
Walk times
  • Restaurants on Center Street 5 min
  • BLM Grand Staircase visitor center 10 min
  • Kanab City Park on 100 North 7 min
Skip if: You want multiple lake days back to back without a long morning drive
Local tip: Coyote Gulch Cafe on Center Street opens at 7am. The breakfast burrito is the best within 100 miles. Worth the stop before any canyon day.

Page, Arizona is the closest full-service town, 3 miles from Wahweap Marina. It has 20-plus hotels, grocery stores, and restaurants along Lake Powell Blvd. Most visitors base here and drive to the marina each morning in under 10 minutes.

Is it worth staying at the marina instead of downtown Page?

Only if you have a boat departure or specifically want a lake view. Lake Powell Resort at Wahweap charges $150 to $350 per night for rooms Page offers at $80 to $180. The drive from Page to Wahweap takes 8 minutes. Most visitors save the difference and sleep in Page.

How far is Bullfrog Marina from Page?

About 100 miles by road, taking roughly 2 hours via UT-276 and US-95. Bullfrog is the main Utah-side marina and a completely different experience from Wahweap: quieter, more remote, and better suited for extended houseboat trips or exploring the upper lake above Halls Crossing.

When should I book accommodation near Lake Powell?

Book at least 6 weeks in advance for June, July, and August. Page hotels sell out by mid-May for summer weekends. Wahweap Resort books out faster than Page. Shoulder season visits in April, May, September, or October allow booking 2 to 3 weeks out with better rates.
