Where to Stay Guide

Where to Stay in Teton National Park

Four distinct bases, each with a different trade-off. Jackson for services, Teton Village for ski-resort access, and two in-park lodge zones where the wildlife is literally outside your window.

Jackson Town Square

Most services, furthest from the wildlife

Mid-range $150-$350/night

Jackson sits 12 miles south of the Moose entrance on US-26/89. Broadway cuts through the center and most hotels cluster on West Broadway and North Cache Street around the famous elk antler arch square. You get restaurants, gear shops, outfitters, and Wyoming's best apres scene. The drive to Jenny Lake takes 35 minutes on Teton Park Road. For first-timers who want ATMs, urgent care, and decent cell service without roughing it, Jackson works well. But you will spend real time behind the wheel. Plan on an hour of driving per day minimum during peak summer season.

Best for
First-time visitorsfamilies wanting dining options and nightlifethose with early or late flights
Walk times
  • Town Square to National Elk Refuge trailhead 8 min
  • North Cache Street to Snow King Mountain gondola base 12 min
  • West Broadway hotel row to Jackson Hole Playhouse on Millward 6 min
Skip if: You want to wake up inside the park or avoid 30-plus minutes of driving each morning
Local tip: Cache Street motels book out by February for July. The blocks north of Town Square on North Cache are quieter and 3 minutes closer to the National Elk Refuge trailhead. Avoid hotels on the south end of Broadway near the gas stations.

Teton Village

Ski resort base, closest western entrance to the park

Luxury $220-$650/night

Teton Village sits at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, 14 miles northwest of Jackson via Teton Village Road. Village Drive is the spine of the complex with lodges stacked from slopeside Four Seasons down to mid-range Granite Loop Road properties. You are 3 miles from the Granite Canyon Entrance on the park's west side. Summer means tram rides and mountain biking; winter is world-class skiing. Fewer restaurants than Jackson but far less traffic. The Moose-Wilson Road into the park starts right here and passes through the best moose habitat in the valley at dusk.

Best for
Skiershikers targeting western Teton slopescouples wanting resort amenities close to the park
Walk times
  • Village Drive to Jackson Hole Aerial Tram base 6 min
  • Village center to Mangy Moose restaurant on Village Drive 4 min
  • Hotel row to Granite Canyon Trailhead at park boundary 8 min
Skip if: Budget is tight or you are focused on Jackson Lake wildlife and the northern park corridors
Local tip: Parking is free at Teton Village unlike Jackson. Moose-Wilson Road south of Teton Village is unpaved in sections and closed to RVs. It is the quietest and most scenic way into the park and wildlife sightings are daily.

Moose and Jenny Lake

Inside the park, steps from the Cathedral Group

Luxury $200-$550/night

Staying near Moose Junction or the Jenny Lake zone means you wake up inside Grand Teton National Park. Dornan's at Moose Junction on Teton Park Road offers spur ranch cabins and a pizza deck with direct Teton views no Jackson hotel can match. Jenny Lake Lodge on North Jenny Lake Drive is the standout: log cabins dating to the 1920s with white-tablecloth dinner included in room rates. Teton Park Road connects both clusters. Traffic builds past 7am in July. Be on the trail by 5:30am to beat the Cascade Canyon bottleneck. Cell service drops to zero past Dornan's heading north.

Best for
Photographershikers targeting Cascade Canyon and Hidden Fallswildlife watchers who want zero commute
Walk times
  • Jenny Lake Lodge to Jenny Lake Visitor Center 5 min
  • Dornan's Moose Junction to Moose-Wilson Road trailhead 3 min
  • Jenny Lake area to Hidden Falls ferry dock 12 min
Skip if: You need more than 2 dining options, reliable cell service, or a pharmacy within 30 minutes
Local tip: Jenny Lake Lodge sells out by October for the following July. Dornan's Spur Ranch Cabins run 40 percent cheaper and the Dornan's pizza deck has the same Teton skyline view. Book Dornan's directly at dornans.com, not through OTAs.

Jackson Lake Lodge and Signal Mountain

Northern park base, best moose and bear country

Luxury $180-$450/night

Jackson Lake Lodge at Moran Junction on US-287 is the grandest in-park option: 60-foot lobby windows frame the Teton range across the full width of Jackson Lake. Signal Mountain Lodge sits 5 miles south on Teton Park Road along the lake shore. Both give you the northern wildlife corridors. Willow Flats Road east of Jackson Lake Lodge is one of the most reliable moose meadows in the Rockies. You are 30 minutes from the South Entrance to Yellowstone. Book Jackson Lake Lodge cottonwood or colter units for the lake view. Standard units face the parking lot and are not worth the premium.

Best for
Wildlife watchersfamilies combining Teton and Yellowstone in one triplandscape photographers after alpenglow on the lake
Walk times
  • Jackson Lake Lodge lobby to Willow Flats Overlook 8 min
  • Signal Mountain Lodge to Signal Mountain Summit trailhead 4 min
  • Jackson Lake Lodge to Colter Bay Visitor Center and marina 10 min
Skip if: You need urban amenities or are focused on Jenny Lake hiking and the southern Teton peaks
Local tip: Jackson Lake Lodge Wranglers units face Willow Flats and cost less than the main lodge rooms with the same moose meadow access. Signal Mountain Lodge bar closes at 9pm. That is your nightlife. Pack your own wine.

Where is the best place to stay for Grand Teton National Park first-timers?

Jackson Town Square works if you want options and a safety net. You are 12 miles from the Moose entrance with restaurants, gear shops, and cell service. If your budget stretches, Dornan's Spur Ranch Cabins at Moose Junction put you inside the park for under $300 and you skip the 7am traffic jam on Teton Park Road entirely. Jenny Lake Lodge is the splurge option at $500-plus but dinner is included and the location is unbeatable.

Can you stay inside Grand Teton National Park?

Yes. Jenny Lake Lodge, Jackson Lake Lodge, Signal Mountain Lodge, and Dornan's Spur Ranch Cabins at Moose Junction all sit within park boundaries. Jenny Lake Lodge and Jackson Lake Lodge are run by Vail Resorts under a park concessions contract. Book by October for the following July, seriously. Jenny Lake Lodge sells out in days once reservations open. Dornan's cabins are booked directly at dornans.com and availability lasts a little longer into winter.

How far is Teton Village from Grand Teton National Park?

Teton Village is 3 miles from the Granite Canyon Entrance on the park's west side. The drive via Moose-Wilson Road takes about 8 minutes. The road is unpaved in sections and closed to RVs and trailers. It is the quietest route into the park and runs through prime moose habitat. In summer the road is open roughly May through November depending on snowpack.

When should you book hotels near Grand Teton National Park?

Book in-park lodges by October or November for the following summer. Jackson and Teton Village hotels need reservations by February or March for July and August visits. September is the sweet spot: crowds drop sharply after Labor Day, elk rut begins around September 15, and aspen turns gold in the valley. Hotels drop $50-100 per night versus July peaks and you can walk into most trailheads without a 5am alarm.
