Jurerê Internacional sits on this side, and it delivers exactly what it promises: polished, expensive, and reliably fun.
The east coast is rawer. Praia Mole and Barra da Lagoa get serious swell, the scenery is more dramatic, and the crowd is younger and more local. If you're a surfer, or you'd rather have a cold beer at a wooden shack by the water than a $20 cocktail at a beach club, stay east. The trade-off is that options outside your hotel get thin fast. stock up at the Lagoa da Conceição supermarkets before you settle in.

There's essentially no independent restaurant or bar scene here outside the resort. That's not a complaint, it's a description. You're 25 minutes from Ingleses and 45 minutes from Lagoa da Conceição by car if you want to venture out.

The beaches are the same, the weather is excellent, and you can actually get a table at the oyster restaurants in Ribeirão da Ilha without waiting.
