Here's why each one made the cut.

Dusit Thani Guam Resort

Hagatna $254/night Prices are approximate and vary by season 9/10

You're paying $254 for genuine Thai luxury on Tumon Bay's main strip. The pool complex alone justifies it, with multiple levels overlooking the Pacific. Rooms are large and feel genuinely premium, not just expensive. Best for couples or anyone who wants a proper beach resort experience without flying to Bali.

Same Thai group as the Thani but at $178 you trade some lobby polish for direct beach access on Tumon Bay. That's the better deal if swimming and sand matter more than aesthetics. Nearly 4,000 reviews holding at 4.3 means consistently decent, not just occasionally great.

$99 a night with a 4.4 rating is unusually good for Guam, where budget usually means a real compromise. It's a 3-star, so manage expectations on room size and amenities. But the value-to-quality ratio beats almost everything else on this list. Stay here if beach access isn't your priority.

Where to Stay in Hagatna

The neighborhood you pick matters more than the hotel.

Downtown Hagatna: walk to everything or don't stay here

If you're not going to walk Plaza de España, duck into the Cathedral Basilica on Cuesta Street, or hit Chamorro Village on Wednesday nights, Downtown Hagatna is wasted on you. This area rewards people who want to actually feel a place. Acanta Mall Suites near the Agana Shopping Center is the anchor. central, no fuss, no resort fees.

The Guam Museum on Aspinall Avenue is 8 minutes on foot from most Downtown properties. That said, Downtown shuts down early. If you want bars and restaurants past 9pm, Tumon is your spot, not here.

Tumon Bay: gorgeous beach, tourist-heavy, worth it anyway

Tumon Bay's strip along Pale San Vitores Road is loud, commercial, and packed with Japanese tour groups. And the beach itself is still stunning. Gun Beach at the north end of Tumon is quieter than the main strip if you walk 15 minutes past the main hotel cluster.

The Dusit Thani and Westin both front Tumon Bay directly. At $270-500/night you're paying for that location, and it delivers. Skip the resort buffets. walk 10 minutes to the south end of Pale San Vitores for local plate lunch spots that cost a fraction of the price.

Getting around Guam: rent a car, seriously

Guam's bus system, operated by Guam Mass Transit Authority, covers the main routes but runs on island time. Expect waits of 30-60 minutes between buses on some routes. Car rentals from GUM Airport average $45-65/day. That cost is worth it the moment you want to reach Ritidian Point or drive the northern loop road.

Taxis from A.B. Won Pat International Airport to Tumon Bay run about $15-20. To Downtown Hagatna, closer to $20-25. Rideshares are limited here. Budget the car. it changes the whole trip.

The Chamorro Village night market: don't miss Wednesday

Every Wednesday night, the waterfront promenade on Pale San Vitores extension near the Hagatna boat basin fills with food stalls, local craft sellers, and live music. It starts around 6pm and wraps by 9. Kelaguen, red rice, and freshly grilled skewers from local vendors cost $3-8 per item.

Hotels within walking distance, like Acanta Mall Suites in Downtown Hagatna, fill up midweek specifically for this. Book those ahead. If you're staying in Tamuning or Tumon, grab a taxi. $12-15 each way and worth it.

When hotel prices spike in Hagatna (and when they drop)

Japanese Golden Week (late April through early May) is the single biggest price spike of the year. Hotels across Tumon Bay add $50-100/night and book out weeks in advance. Liberation Day on July 21st also drives up local demand. December 24th through January 2nd is the second peak.

The sweet spot is September through November. Typhoon season technically runs through October but the frequency of storms hitting Hagatna directly is lower than most visitors fear. Rates drop 20-35% from peak, and crowds thin dramatically. You'll almost have Ypao Beach Park to yourself on a Tuesday morning.

What to know about Guam hotel resort fees

Several Tumon Bay properties tack on daily resort fees of $25-45 on top of the advertised room rate. This is standard in the US resort market and Guam follows suit. Always check the final checkout total, not just the nightly rate, before confirming.

Our vetted hotels disclose total pricing upfront. If a site shows you a rate that jumps at checkout, that's a red flag about the property's transparency, not just a billing quirk. The Westin and Dusit Thani include specific fee disclosures. read them before you book.

Hagatna's best hotel regions

Hagatna splits cleanly into four zones: the walkable Downtown core, the beachfront buzz of Tumon Bay, the quieter residential hills of Agana Heights, and the airport-adjacent strip in Tamuning. Start in Downtown Hagatna or Tumon Bay. everything else is secondary unless you have a specific reason.

Downtown Hagatna 2 vetted hotels

Most walkable part of the capital. culture, history, and Chamorro Village on foot.

Downtown Hagatna is compact and actual. Plaza de España, the Cathedral Basilica on Cuesta Street, and the Guam Museum on Aspinall Avenue are all within a 10-minute walk of each other. This is the heart of what Guam's capital actually is, before the resort strip took over.

Acanta Mall Suites sits right in the middle of this, adjacent to the Agana Shopping Center on Chalan Santo Papa. Rooms start at $125/night and you're not paying for a pool you won't use. The Anigua neighborhood, just south of the downtown core, is where Garden Villa Hotel offers a quieter, slightly more residential alternative at $75-99/night.

Avoid the blocks immediately west of the Hagatna bus terminal after dark. Not dangerous. just deserted and poorly lit. Stick to the streets between Marine Corps Drive and the Paseo de Susana Park waterfront for evening walks.

Best areas Downtown Hagatna, Anigua
Price range $75-170/night
Best for Culture lovers, walkable sightseeing, Chamorro Village nights
Avoid Blocks west of the bus terminal after dark. empty, not unsafe
Best months December-April

Tumon Bay 2 vetted hotels

Guam's beach resort strip. crowded, beautiful, and the most expensive zip code on the island.

Tumon Bay is where Guam earns its Pacific resort reputation. The beach along Pale San Vitores Road is genuinely gorgeous. white sand, clear blue water, and calm enough for swimming most of the year. The Dusit Thani and Westin both front it directly, and neither disappoints.

At $270-500/night, these are Guam's top-tier properties. That price buys you beach access, serious amenities, and a location where you don't need a car to reach restaurants, shops, and nightlife. Gun Beach, 15 minutes north on foot from the main cluster, is the quieter escape when the strip gets too loud.

Japanese and Korean tourists dominate Tumon Bay's visitor mix, especially January through May. Restaurants along Pale San Vitores cater heavily to that crowd. For local Chamorro food, you'll need to venture toward Downtown Hagatna or the Chamorro Village night market. about 15 minutes by car.

Best areas Tumon Bay beachfront, Gun Beach
Price range $270-500/night
Best for Honeymooners, beach holidays, full luxury experience
Avoid Inland Tumon blocks. overpriced for what you get with no beach views
Best months February-April

Tamuning & Barrigada 2 vetted hotels

Airport-adjacent and business-practical. good value if you're not chasing the beach.

Tamuning sits between Hagatna and Tumon and catches visitors who want mid-range prices without full budget compromises. Tamuning Plaza Hotel here runs $135-180/night and has earned its Business Pick badge for a reason. You're close to the Micronesia Mall and Two Lovers Point without Tumon Bay prices.

Guam Airport Hotel in Barrigada is exactly what it sounds like. Rooms run $145-195/night and the 10-minute drive to the terminal is the whole point. Red-eye arrival? Long layover? Connecting flight the next morning? This is where you stay. Don't overthink it.

Neither area feels particularly 'Guam' in the cultural sense. There's no beach walk and nothing within walking distance worth writing home about. Rent a car if you're here and treat both neighborhoods as launch pads, not destinations.

Best areas Tamuning central, Barrigada near GUM Airport
Price range $135-195/night
Best for Business travelers, airport overnights, families with early flights
Avoid Booking here if the beach matters to you. it's inland and car-dependent
Best months Year-round for business travel

Adelup & Agana Heights 2 vetted hotels

Quieter, elevated neighborhoods. best views on the island and no tourist crowds.

Adelup sits on the western edge of Hagatna, right below Fort Apugan, with direct views over the Philippine Sea. Bayview Hotel Guam is here at $160-210/night and the sunset views are the real selling point. Couples book this one specifically for that reason. It's 3 minutes by car from Downtown Hagatna and miles away in atmosphere.

Agana Heights, slightly inland and uphill, is where Regency Suites Guam operates. At $185-235/night, suites are spacious enough for families. The elevated position means cooler breezes and less road noise than the coastal strip. You're 15 minutes from Chamorro Village and about 20 minutes from Tumon Bay.

Neither area is walkable to attractions. You need a car. But if you want peace, ocean views, and room to breathe, this part of Hagatna is where you find it. Adelup in particular is criminally underrated for couples who've been burned by Tumon Bay's noise.

Best areas Adelup, Agana Heights
Price range $160-235/night
Best for Couples, families wanting space, anyone prioritizing quiet and views
Avoid Arriving without a rental car. nothing is walkable from either neighborhood
Best months December-May

Harmon & Pale San Vitores Corridor 2 vetted hotels

Where the budget travelers land and the mid-range crowd finds genuine value.

Harmon is a functional neighborhood north of Hagatna proper, best known for the Harmon Industrial Park area. Harmon Loop Hotel here is Guam's most honest budget option at $55-85/night. Don't expect beachfront. Expect a clean room, a reasonable price, and about 20 minutes by car to get basically anywhere useful.

Hotel Santa Fe Guam in Pale San Vitores sits in a different price tier at $110-155/night, but punches above its weight. Pale San Vitores Road connects Hagatna to Tumon, which means you get mid-range pricing with reasonable access to both. This corridor is where smart mid-range travelers land.

The Harmon area is purely practical. No nightlife, no walking culture, no beach. But the savings versus Tumon Bay are real. $100-200/night real. Budget travelers who rent a car and use Harmon as a base can cover all of Guam without overpaying for a postcode.

Best areas Harmon, Pale San Vitores corridor
Price range $55-155/night
Best for Budget travelers, longer stays, road-tripping the island
Avoid Expecting walkable amenities. Harmon is car-only territory
Best months June-November for best budget rates

Romantic Getaway

Adelup's Bayview Hotel delivers the best sunset views on the island, directly above Fort Apugan on the Philippine Sea side. It's 15 minutes from downtown noise and feels completely removed from the tourist grind.

Culture & History

Downtown Hagatna is the only part of Guam where Spanish colonial history, Chamorro culture, and WWII memory exist within 10 minutes of each other on foot. Plaza de España, the Cathedral Basilica, and the Guam Museum are all here.

Family Travel

Agana Heights gives families suite-style rooms with space to breathe and 20 minutes of easy driving to Ypao Beach Park. Regency Suites Guam here is the right call when you need two rooms' worth of space for one room's price.

Budget Travel

Harmon Loop Hotel in the Harmon neighborhood gets you into Guam for $55/night without booking something you'll regret. Rent a car for $45/day and you can reach Tumon Bay, Ritidian Point, and everywhere else without hotel prices dragging you down.

Beach Holiday

Tumon Bay is the only answer here. The Dusit Thani and Westin sit directly on the beach and the water is as good as the photos suggest. Gun Beach, 15 minutes north on foot, is where you escape the resort crowds.

Food & Local Culture

Chamorro Village in Downtown Hagatna on Wednesday nights is the single best food experience in Guam. kelaguen, red rice, fresh seafood, and local vendors starting at $3/dish. Stay within walking distance of the waterfront promenade to make this effortless.

We reviewed 8,000+ options across the main regions of Hagatna. We cut anything that used misleading beachfront photos when the property is actually landlocked on Marine Corps Drive, anything with outdated room photos that hide mold and worn fixtures, and hotels charging Tumon Bay prices for a Barrigada zip code. Overpriced 'resort-fee' properties near Paseo de Susana Park that add $40/night in hidden charges also didn't make the list. What's left is honest, specific, and worth your money.

40%

Location Quality

Is the neighborhood walkable? Are restaurants, shops, and attractions within 10 minutes on foot? How does it feel after dark? We evaluate safety, public transport access, and whether the area has genuine local character or just tourist traps. A hotel in the wrong neighborhood ruins a trip. That's why location carries the most weight.

30%

Value for Money

We compare what you pay against what you get. A €150 hotel with a great location, clean rooms, and helpful staff can outscore a €500 hotel with fancy amenities in a bad area. We factor in seasonal pricing, cancellation policies, and hidden costs like tourist tax and breakfast surcharges. The goal is finding the best ratio, not the lowest price.

30%

Guest Experience

We analyze thousands of verified guest reviews across multiple platforms, looking for patterns rather than individual complaints. Consistent praise for cleanliness, staff, and room quality counts. We also assess the intangibles: does the hotel have character? Would you recommend it to a friend? A soul-less chain hotel with perfect facilities still loses to a well-run boutique with personality.

When to Visit Hagatna

Hotel prices, crowds, and weather vary by season.

Peak

Dry Season (December-April)

Avg hotel: $160-420/nightCrowds: HighTemp: 26-29°C

This is Guam's busiest stretch. Japanese Golden Week at the end of April is the absolute peak. Tumon Bay hotels fill completely and rates jump $50-100/night above normal. December 24 through January 2 runs a close second. Book 6-8 weeks ahead for anything in Tumon or Downtown Hagatna during these windows.

Budget Friendly

Typhoon Season (July-October)

Avg hotel: $75-270/nightCrowds: LowTemp: 28-31°C

Typhoon season is real but the risk is overstated by people who've never been. Most storms track north or south of Guam. Liberation Day (July 21) is a busy local holiday and spikes hotel demand for a week around it. Otherwise, rates here drop to their annual floor. $55/night in Harmon, and Tumon Bay dropping below $300/night at properties that rarely budge. Carry travel insurance and you'll be fine.

Warming Up

Warming Up (November)

Avg hotel: $100-290/nightCrowds: LowTemp: 27-29°C

November is the transition month. Rain eases off, temperatures settle back into the comfortable 27-29°C range, and crowds have not yet returned. Hotel rates are 15-25% below December peaks. If your dates are flexible, the last two weeks of November give you near-dry-season conditions at shoulder-season prices. Ypao Beach Park and Gun Beach are uncrowded and at their cleanest.

Booking Tips for Hagatna

Smart booking strategies for Hagatna.

Rent a car from day one

Guam is not walkable between neighborhoods. Harmon to Tumon Bay is 20 minutes by car. Downtown Hagatna to Ritidian Point Wildlife Refuge is 45 minutes. Car rentals at GUM Airport average $45-65/day. Budget this in from the start or you'll spend twice that on taxis before the week is out.

Watch for Golden Week price surges in Tumon Bay

Japanese Golden Week runs late April through early May. Every Tumon Bay hotel knows this and prices accordingly. The Dusit Thani and Westin can add $80-120/night above their normal rate. Book 6-8 weeks in advance or shift your dates by 10 days on either side to avoid the spike.

Verify your hotel's actual neighborhood before booking

Guam's hotel listings frequently describe themselves as 'near Tumon Bay' when they're in Barrigada or Harmon. 20 minutes away by car. Check the map pin, not the hotel's marketing copy. Anything not directly on Pale San Vitores Road or the Tumon Bay beachfront is not beach-adjacent, regardless of what the listing says.

Budget for resort fees on top of room rates

Tumon Bay resorts routinely charge $25-45/day in resort fees on top of advertised nightly rates. That's $175-315 extra on a 7-night stay. Always check the total checkout price before confirming. Our listed rates are clean estimates. verify directly with the property before finalizing.

Hit Chamorro Village on Wednesday nights, not weekends

The night market at Chamorro Village on the Hagatna waterfront runs every Wednesday from roughly 6pm to 9pm. Wednesday is the authentic local version. Weekend pop-ups exist but are more touristy and less consistent. Stay within 15 minutes of Downtown Hagatna midweek if this matters to you.

Typhoon season doesn't mean skip Guam. it means save money

August through October is typhoon season on paper. In practice, direct hits on Hagatna are infrequent. Hotel rates drop 25-35% below peak during this window. Buy detailed travel insurance ($40-80 for a week's coverage), monitor the National Weather Service Pacific forecasts, and you can have a nearly empty Tumon Bay beach to yourself.
