Here's why each one made the cut.
Dusit Thani Guam Resort
Consistently one of Tumon's top-rated hotels across 5,800+ reviews. You're getting Thai-style hospitality on a Pacific island, which is a surprisingly good combo. The pool setup overlooks the beach strip directly. At $254, it's priced fairly for a true five-star experience. Skip it only if you want something quieter away from Tumon Bay Road.

The Tsubaki Tower
The newest luxury tower in Tumon, and it shows. Japanese-owned with the kind of precise, attentive service you'd expect. Rooms have floor-to-ceiling views over Tumon Bay. At $330 it's the priciest pick here, but 1,000+ reviews at 4.5 stars say it delivers. Book it if budget isn't the constraint.

Hyatt Regency Guam
You're right on Tumon Bay with a massive pool complex that keeps kids occupied for hours. The brand delivers consistent, predictable quality. At $266 it's not the cheapest four-star on the strip, but 3,300+ reviews back it up. Worth it for families who want zero surprises and reliable service throughout.

Dusit Beach Resort Guam
The better-value sibling to Dusit Thani: same Thai-owned hospitality at $178. Beachfront access on Tumon Bay, solid four-star comfort, and nearly 3,800 reviews prove this isn't a fluke. The trade-off: room finish isn't as polished as the flagship next door. Still one of the strongest value plays on this list.

Hotel Tano Guam
$99 a night in Tumon. That's the headline. You won't get a beach club or resort pools, but a 4.4 rating from real guests is hard to argue with. It's a short walk to Tumon Bay Road and the beach strip. If you're spending days exploring rather than lounging, this wins easily.

Hilton Guam Resort & Spa
One of the biggest resort complexes in Tumon, with multiple pools, a spa, and direct beach access. At $211 with 4,300+ reviews at 4.2 stars, it's the safe corporate pick. The sheer size means you sometimes feel like a number. Works best for large groups who need the full facilities.

The Westin Resort Guam
Five-star branding at $218 sounds like a deal until you notice the property showing its age. The Heavenly Beds are genuinely good, and upper-floor Tumon Bay views are worth requesting at check-in. Over 2,500 reviewers give it 4.2, so it's solid. Just don't expect Westin's newer Asian properties as a comparison.

Lotte Hotel Guam
Korean-owned and popular with the Japanese and Korean visitors who dominate Guam tourism. Service is attentive and rooms are clean. At $185 for a five-star label it looks like value, but the 4.2 rating suggests some inconsistency. Good choice if you want a quieter, less party-focused resort atmosphere.

Pacific Islands Club Guam
The most reviewed hotel on this list: 5,800+ guests and counting. PIC runs on the all-inclusive water sports model, so you're paying for the waterpark, jet skis, and beach toys rather than room luxury. It's the obvious pick for families with young kids who want one fee and zero daily logistics.

Where to Stay in Tumon
The neighborhood you pick matters more than the hotel.
Making the Most of Tumon Bay Beach
Tumon Bay beach is a public amenity even if it's fronted by hotels. The beach access points between the Hilton and Hyatt are open to everyone. Ypao Beach Park at the south end of Tumon is a public park with picnic facilities and the best free snorkeling area on the bay.
Water sports operators on the beach rent equipment from 9am-5pm. Parasailing costs $65-75 per flight from the Tumon beach operator area outside the Outrigger Hotel. For calmer conditions, go in the morning: afternoon trade winds can make the bay choppy.
Guam's History: WWII Pacific Campaign
Guam was occupied by Japan from December 1941 to July 1944. The War in the Pacific National Historical Park maintains 7 sites across the island, with the visitor center in Asan (15 minutes from Tumon by car). The Guam Museum in Hagatna covers both Chamorro culture and the WWII history.
The Piti Bomb Holes (underwater WWII munitions dump, now a fish habitat) are a popular dive site near Apra Harbor. Most Tumon dive shops include this in their site rotation. Two Lovers Point has a small museum about the American liberation. The Japanese WWII gun batteries at Fort Apugan above Tumon are a short drive.
Chamorro Culture and Local Experiences
Hagatna (Agana), Guam's capital, is 10 minutes from Tumon by taxi. The Chamorro Village Wednesday Night Market from 6-9pm has local food vendors (kelaguen, red rice, empanadas), craft stalls, and live music. It's the most authentic local experience in the Tumon area.
The Latte Stone Park near the Government House preserves ancient CHamoru (indigenous Chamorro) pillar stones used as building foundations. The Guam Museum on Archbishop Flores Street has an excellent free permanent collection on Chamorro history and culture. Both are 15 minutes from Tumon hotels.
Shopping in Tumon: Duty-Free and Outlets
T Galleria by DFS on Marine Drive in Upper Tumon is the main duty-free complex. Luxury brands (Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Burberry) are 10-25% cheaper here than in Japan for Japanese visitors. Guam Premium Outlets near the Micronesia Mall has US outlet brands (Coach, Polo, Tommy Hilfiger) at 20-40% below mainland retail.
There's no general sales tax on Guam (the Guam Education and Empowerment Act taxes vary by product but basics are cheaper than US states). Electronics and alcohol are particularly good value. Duty-free allowances for imports back to Japan and Korea are generous.
Day Trips from Tumon
Cocos Island Lagoon (south Guam, 45 minutes by car) has the island's best snorkeling and is a marine sanctuary. Day trips from Tumon operators run $60-90 including snorkel equipment and boat transfer. The water clarity here is significantly better than Tumon Bay.
Two Lovers Point is 10 minutes from Tumon: a 120m limestone cliff with a legend (two Chamorro lovers jumped from the cliff rather than be separated by a Spanish soldier) and the best Pacific views on the island. The viewing platform has a fence so it's safe. Entry is $3. Combine with a car drive south to see the Japanese war bunkers at Fort Apugan.
Pacific Islands Club Guam: What's Included
Pacific Islands Club (PIC) is a self-contained resort that charges room rates of $160-220/night but includes almost all activities: water park (3 pools, slides, wave pool), beach water sports (kayaks, paddleboards, windsurfing, snorkeling), tennis courts, and evening entertainment.
For families and couples who want organized activities, PIC can be better value than paying a la carte at other resorts. The water park alone would cost $40-60/person at a standalone facility. PIC's beach area is managed separately from Tumon Bay itself with dedicated water sports staff.
Tumon's best hotel regions
Tumon Bay is Guam's 3km hotel strip along the island's west coast. Upper Tumon has the duty-free Mall and shopping centers. South of Tumon is Tamuning (commercial) and the airport. The rest of Guam is more rural and less touristed.
Tumon Bay Beachfront 7 vetted hotels The main resort strip
The main resort strip
The 3km stretch of Tumon Bay is where most hotels concentrate. Hilton, Hyatt, Westin, Outrigger, Lotte, Dusit Thani, and Pacific Islands Club all sit directly on or facing the bay. Immediate beach access, all water sports available.
Higher prices than Upper Tumon but worthwhile for beach-first holidays. The southern end of the strip near Ypao Beach Park is slightly quieter than the northern end near the shopping areas.

Cheaper rooms, shopping access
Upper Tumon has Guam Plaza Resort and Days Inn, both set back from the beach but near the Guam Premium Outlets and T Galleria duty-free. Shuttle buses to Tumon Bay are available.
Save $20-40/night versus beachfront. Best for shoppers or visitors who prioritize the duty-free over the beach. The shuttle ride is 5-10 minutes.

Romantic
Dusit Thani Guam Resort with its Thai-influenced design and beachfront setting. Sunset cocktails at Two Lovers Point. The Lotte Hotel rooftop infinity pool overlooking Tumon Bay at night. Better value than Hawaii for a romantic Pacific island stay.
Culture
Hagatna's Chamorro Village Wednesday Night Market. The Guam Museum free permanent collection. The War in the Pacific National Historical Park (WWII sites at Asan Beach). Guam's dual identity as a Chamorro homeland and US military territory is genuinely interesting.
Family
Pacific Islands Club with its all-included water park and water sports. Tumon Bay shallow lagoon for children (calm, no currents). The Underwater World aquarium at Tumon. No passport required for US families makes it accessible.
Budget
Hotel Nikko Guam at $55-89/night on Tumon Bay. Days Inn at $75-99. Tumon Bay public beach access is free. The Chamorro Village market for $5-10 meals. Guam is expensive by Asia standards but competitive with US domestic beach resort pricing.
Beach
Tumon Bay is a protected lagoon with calm conditions. Ypao Beach Park at the south end for snorkeling. Cocos Island Lagoon (45 min south) for better reef snorkeling. Ritidian Point National Wildlife Refuge in the north for the most deserted beach on the island.
Foodie
Chamorro cuisine: kelaguen, tinaktak, finadenne sauce, and red rice. The Wednesday Chamorro Village market is the place. The Proa restaurant for elevated local cooking. The Japanese and Korean food options in Upper Tumon reflect the tourist market and are genuinely good.
We reviewed hotels across Tumon Bay's beachfront strip, from budget Japanese-market properties to full-service luxury resorts. Priority: actual beach access quality, whether the pool area is maintained, and proximity to Tumon Bay's attractions.
Location Quality
Is the neighborhood walkable? Are restaurants, shops, and attractions within 10 minutes on foot? How does it feel after dark? We evaluate safety, public transport access, and whether the area has genuine local character or just tourist traps. A hotel in the wrong neighborhood ruins a trip. That's why location carries the most weight.
Value for Money
We compare what you pay against what you get. A €150 hotel with a great location, clean rooms, and helpful staff can outscore a €500 hotel with fancy amenities in a bad area. We factor in seasonal pricing, cancellation policies, and hidden costs like tourist tax and breakfast surcharges. The goal is finding the best ratio, not the lowest price.
Guest Experience
We analyze thousands of verified guest reviews across multiple platforms, looking for patterns rather than individual complaints. Consistent praise for cleanliness, staff, and room quality counts. We also assess the intangibles: does the hotel have character? Would you recommend it to a friend? A soul-less chain hotel with perfect facilities still loses to a well-run boutique with personality.
Every hotel on this page earned its spot through this process.
When to Visit Tumon
Hotel prices, crowds, and weather vary by season.
Dry Season (Jan-Jun)
January through June is the dry season with lower humidity and clearer skies. Trade winds keep temperatures manageable. The best snorkeling visibility is February-April when water clarity is highest.
Wet Season Start (Jul-Aug)
July-August brings Japanese and Korean summer vacation travelers. Tumon hotels fill on weekends. The wet season brings afternoon showers but they're usually short. Humidity is higher than dry season.
Typhoon Season (Sep-Nov)
September-November is typhoon season. Guam averages one significant storm every 3-5 years (Mawar 2023 was severe). Most years are fine. Book refundable rates and buy travel insurance. Hotel prices are lowest of the year.
Winter (Dec)
December is Christmas-New Year holiday peak. Japanese and Korean holidayers fill Tumon. Hotel prices spike 30-50%. If this is your only option, book 3 months ahead. The weather is pleasant: dry season beginning.
Booking Tips for Tumon
Smart booking strategies for Tumon.
Book the hotel shuttle from the airport in advance
Most Tumon hotels offer free or $10-15 shuttle service from Antonio B. Won Pat Airport (GUM), 7km south. Book it when you make your hotel reservation. Taxis cost $20-30 but are less reliable at night. There is no public bus service that efficiently connects the airport to Tumon Bay hotels.
Use the Guam Visitors Bureau app for free maps and events
The Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) at visitguam.com and their mobile app has current event listings, maps, and a real-time hotel availability tool. The Wednesday Chamorro Village market times, the Saturday Liberation Day events, and seasonal activities are all listed. Free resource, download before you arrive.
Snorkel at Ypao Beach Park for free
Ypao Beach Park at the south end of Tumon Bay is a free public park with the best snorkeling on the immediate Tumon Bay area. Snorkel equipment rental is available from beach vendors ($10-15/day). The coral is healthier here than in front of the large resort hotels. Go at high tide for best water depth.
The Wednesday Chamorro Village market is the best night out
Hagatna's Chamorro Village Wednesday Night Market runs 6-9pm. Red rice, empanadas, kelaguen chicken, and fresh coconut drinks cost $3-8 per item. Live Chamorro music. A taxi from Tumon costs $15-20 each way. Ask your hotel front desk to recommend a reliable taxi driver for the evening. Far better than resort restaurant prices.
Typhoon season travel insurance is non-negotiable
If you're visiting July-November, buy detailed travel insurance that covers typhoon cancellation and disruption. Guam's typhoon risk is real: Mawar in 2023 caused $100M+ in damage and flight cancellations. Travel insurance from a reputable provider (Allianz, World Nomads) costs $40-80 for a week's coverage. Worth it entirely.
Rent a car for a half-day to see the island beyond Tumon
Tumon has everything you need for a beach resort stay but the real Guam is elsewhere. A half-day car rental ($40-55) covers Two Lovers Point (10 min), Fort Apugan (15 min), Hagatna and the Chamorro Village (15 min), and Asan Beach WWII Park (20 min). The southern Guam drive to Cocos Island takes 45 minutes and has views that Tumon's hotel strip completely misses.
Hotels in Tumon, FAQ
Straight answers from our team.
Do US citizens need a passport for Guam?
No. Guam is a US territory and US citizens can travel with a government-issued ID (driver's license or birth certificate) instead of a passport. The Guam-CNMI Visa Waiver Program also allows visitors from Japan, South Korea, and 26 other countries to enter without a visa for up to 45 days. This is the main reason Guam is popular with Northeast Asian tourists.
What is Tumon Bay beach like?
Tumon Bay is a protected, shallow lagoon on Guam's west coast with calm, clear turquoise water. The beach runs about 3km with most hotels lining the bay. Water sports (jet skis, parasailing, paddleboards) operate from the beach. Snorkeling is possible but the reef quality doesn't match the Philippines or Palau. It's a beach resort, not a dive destination.
How much do Tumon hotels cost?
Budget properties like Hotel Nikko Guam and Days Inn start at $55-99/night. Mid-range resorts (Outrigger, Westin, Pacific Islands Club) run $120-249. Hyatt Regency and Hilton Guam start at $260/night and peak at $420-480. Guam hotel prices are comparable to Hawaii but the experience is similar to a Southeast Asian resort strip.
Is Guam worth visiting from the US mainland?
Worth it from Hawaii or the West Coast. From Honolulu it's about 8 hours. From Los Angeles it's 12 hours. From Tokyo it's 3.5 hours, which is why Japanese tourists are the main market. For East Coast US visitors, Hawaii or Caribbean options are much more practical time-wise. If you're already in Asia and want a US-standard beach resort, Guam makes sense.
What can I do in Guam besides the beach?
Two Lovers Point (Puntan Dos Amantes) is a 120m limestone cliff with Pacific views, reachable in 10 minutes from Tumon hotels. The Guam War in the Pacific National Historical Park tells the WWII Pacific campaign story at multiple sites. Chamorro Village in Hagatna (the capital) has Wednesday night markets with local food, crafts, and music. The Latte Stone Park in Hagatna preserves ancient Chamorro pillars.
What is the best time to visit Guam?
January to June is the dry season with 27-30C temperatures and manageable humidity. July to December brings typhoon season with occasional storms and higher rainfall. Typhoon intensity has increased: Mawar in 2023 caused significant damage. Check typhoon forecasts before booking during August-November. Most hotels have emergency procedures but be aware of the risk.
Is Guam expensive?
Yes, for Asia. As a US territory, prices are US-standard. A beach resort meal costs $20-40 per person. Imported goods (alcohol, most food) carry a 10-20% premium over US mainland prices. Fuel is expensive. But Guam has no sales tax and some duty-free shopping advantages. Compared to Hawaii, prices are similar or slightly lower.
What water sports are available in Tumon?
Tumon Bay has jet ski rental ($60-80/30 min), parasailing ($65-75/ride), kayaks ($20-30/hour), paddleboards ($20-25/hour), and glass-bottom boat tours ($25-45). Pacific Islands Club Guam on the beachfront has its own water park facilities included for guests. Scuba diving day trips to Cocos Island Lagoon (south Guam) cost $90-120 for two dives.
Which Tumon hotel has the best beach access?
The Hyatt Regency Guam and Hilton Guam Resort both have direct Tumon Bay beach frontage with wide sand areas and water sports facilities. The Westin Resort Guam and Outrigger Guam are also directly on the bay. Lotte Hotel Guam sits slightly back from the beachfront but has a stunning pool. Pacific Islands Club has its own dedicated beach area with included water sports.
Are there good restaurants in Tumon?
The Hilton Guam's 1736 restaurant is the island's best for fine dining at $60-100 per person. For local Chamorro food, The Proa restaurant on Marine Drive serves red rice, tinaktak (coconut meat stew), and kelaguen (marinated chicken or seafood) for $20-35 per person. The Chamorro Village Wednesday Night Market is authentic and cheap ($5-10 a plate).
What is Upper Tumon versus Tumon Bay?
Tumon Bay is the beachfront strip. Upper Tumon sits slightly inland and higher up the hill, with the Guam Premium Outlets mall, the T Galleria duty-free shops, and the Micronesia Mall. Hotels in Upper Tumon (like Guam Plaza Resort and Spa) are $10-30/night cheaper than beachfront but require a shuttle or taxi to reach the beach. Most travelers prefer the beachfront for convenience.
How do I get from Guam Airport to Tumon hotels?
Guam's Antonio B. Won Pat Airport (GUM) is 7km south of Tumon. Most Tumon hotels offer shuttle service ($10-15 per person) bookable in advance. Taxis cost $20-30. Rideshare apps are limited on Guam. Hotel shuttles are the most reliable option for late-night or early-morning arrivals. Confirm the shuttle schedule with your hotel when booking.
