Why These Hotels Made Our List

Here's why each one made the cut.

Turin Palace Hotel

Turin $317/night Prices are approximate and vary by season 9.6/10

4.8 from nearly 3,000 reviews means something. Steps from Porta Nuova station, you're connected to the whole city immediately. $317 isn't cheap, but the rooms are genuinely spacious and the service is old-school attentive. If you want central Turin with no compromises, this is your pick.

Principi di Piemonte

Turin $307/night Prices are approximate and vary by season 9.4/10

Five stars, $307 a night, and it actually earns it. The rooftop bar alone is worth it for views over the city and the Alps on clear days. Service leans formal, which some people love. You're paying for history and grandeur, not Instagram minimalism. Worth it if that's your thing.

Grand Hotel Sitea

Turin $209/night Prices are approximate and vary by season 9.2/10

$209 for five stars in central Turin is a deal you shouldn't overthink. You're on Via Carlo Alberto, walking distance from the Egyptian Museum and Piazza Castello. Smaller than the flagship hotels, which means more personal service. Don't expect a massive spa. Expect solid luxury at a reasonable price.

This one's for people who actually care about the room itself. Hotel Indigo properties lean local and design-forward, and the Turin outpost delivers. Near Piazza Castello, $216 a night. Only 302 reviews, so less track record than bigger hotels. But 4.6 from guests who notice details is a good sign.

Domino Hotel Torino

No star rating, but 4.7 from 160 guests at $102 a night. The thin review count suggests it's newer. Turin city center, competitive price. If you're budget-conscious but don't want a budget feel, it's worth the gamble. Just verify the exact location before booking: unrated properties can land anywhere.

Where to Stay in Turin

The neighborhood you pick matters more than the hotel.

The Egyptian Museum

The Museo Egizio on Via Accademia delle Scienze is the second largest Egyptian collection outside Cairo, with over 40,000 objects including the intact tomb of Kha and Merit (18th Dynasty), one of the most complete Egyptian burial sets ever found. Entry is $17 and includes the adjacent Galleria Sabauda (Savoy royal art collection).

Allow 3-4 hours minimum. Book tickets online to skip the entrance queue, essential in summer. The museum is spread across 5 floors with chronological organization from prehistoric to Roman Egypt. The basement floor with papyrus scrolls and the ground floor statue gallery are the highlights. Tuesday evenings until 10pm have reduced $10 entry.

The Royal Palaces and Piazza Castello

Piazza Castello in the city center is ringed by royal residences. The Palazzo Reale (Royal Palace) and the Palazzo Madama are both UNESCO-listed, forming part of the Residences of the Royal House of Savoy designation covering 14 sites around Piedmont. Combined entry is around $15.

Directly inside the Palazzo Reale is the Armeria Reale (Royal Armoury), one of the most important collections of medieval weaponry in Europe. The Royal Gardens behind the palace give views toward the Alps on clear days. The Cathedral of San Giovanni Battista next door holds the Turin Shroud (displayed every 3-5 years, not always on show).

Lingotto and the Fiat Rooftop

The Lingotto complex in the south of Turin was the Fiat car factory from 1923 to 1982, designed with a rooftop test track that is still intact and visible. The NH Turin Lingotto Congress hotel is built into the complex. The Eataly supermarket here is the original and best-stocked location.

The Pinacoteca Agnelli gallery on the complex rooftop has an intimate collection of about 25 paintings by Matisse, Picasso, Canaletto, Tiepolo, and others, selected by Gianni Agnelli personally. It is small but curated with taste. Entry is $7. Lingotto is 15 minutes from the center by Metro Line 1.

Aperitivo and Turin's Food Culture

Turin invented the aperitivo hour and it is still done properly here. From 6-9pm bars in the Quadrilatero Romano (near Via Garibaldi) and around Piazza Carignano set out tables with free food when you order a drink. A Vermouth or Campari costs $6-8 and the included food is enough for dinner if you do 2-3 bars.

The Caffè Al Bicerin at Via della Consolata 5 has been serving the bicerin (layered espresso, chocolate, and cream in a glass) since 1763. €6 per glass but worth it. The chocolate shops on Via Roma and Via Po have the best gianduja (hazelnut chocolate paste, invented in Turin) in the country.

Day Trip to the Langhe

The Langhe wine region 60 kilometers south produces Barolo (the king of Italian reds), Barbaresco, and Moscato. The town of La Morra on its hilltop has the best views over the vineyards. Alba, the main town, has the white truffle fair October-November with truffles sold for $300-500 per 100g.

Several tour operators run Langhe day trips from Turin for $60-80 per person including transport and 2-3 winery visits with tastings. If renting a car, the SP165 road through Serralunga d'Alba passes through some of the most valuable wine land in Italy.

The Quadrilatero Romano

The Quadrilatero Romano is Turin's oldest neighborhood, a grid of Roman streets between Via Garibaldi and Via del Carmine. It has the best concentration of independent restaurants, wine bars, and aperitivo venues in the city. Mercato di Porta Palazzo just north is Europe's largest outdoor market, open daily except Sunday.

Best explored on foot starting from Piazza Emanuele Filiberto. Via Santa Chiara has wine bars at $5-8 per glass. Ristorante Consorzio on Via Monte di Pietà is the best Piedmontese cooking in the neighborhood at $50-65 per person. The neighborhood is genuinely alive from 11am to midnight.

Turin's best hotel regions

Turin's historic center runs from Piazza Castello north to the train stations, south along the elegant Via Roma shopping corridor. The Crocetta district is residential and upscale east of the Egyptian Museum. The Lingotto area in the south has the former Fiat factory complex. Parco del Valentino along the Po river is the main green space.

Porta Nuova and City Center 4 vetted hotels

Transport hub with direct access to the main sights

The area around Porta Nuova station and Via Roma is the most practical base in Turin. Hotel Urbani near Porta Nuova at $55-85 is the best budget option. Hotel Victoria on Via Nino Costa at $130-185 is the standout mid-range. The Egyptian Museum is 10 minutes walk, Piazza Castello 15 minutes.

Via Roma connects Porta Nuova directly to Piazza Castello with arcaded shopping and several good restaurants. The metro at Porta Nuova connects to Lingotto in 12 minutes. Most of what you need to see is within a 20-minute walk.

The Crocetta neighborhood southeast of the Egyptian Museum is quiet, residential, and one of the more pleasant parts of central Turin. Hotel Bologna in this area at $72-98 is reliable and good value. The Egyptian Museum is 10 minutes walk, Parco del Valentino 15 minutes.

Fewer tourists than the main shopping streets. Local bars, alimentari, and a covered market give a genuine neighborhood feel. Best for travelers who want the city without the centro storico crowds.

We reviewed hotels across Turin's historic center, the Porta Nuova station area, the Crocetta neighborhood, and the Lingotto district. Our picks represent the best value at each price level.

40%

Location Quality

Is the neighborhood walkable? Are restaurants, shops, and attractions within 10 minutes on foot? How does it feel after dark? We evaluate safety, public transport access, and whether the area has genuine local character or just tourist traps. A hotel in the wrong neighborhood ruins a trip. That's why location carries the most weight.

30%

Value for Money

We compare what you pay against what you get. A €150 hotel with a great location, clean rooms, and helpful staff can outscore a €500 hotel with fancy amenities in a bad area. We factor in seasonal pricing, cancellation policies, and hidden costs like tourist tax and breakfast surcharges. The goal is finding the best ratio, not the lowest price.

30%

Guest Experience

We analyze thousands of verified guest reviews across multiple platforms, looking for patterns rather than individual complaints. Consistent praise for cleanliness, staff, and room quality counts. We also assess the intangibles: does the hotel have character? Would you recommend it to a friend? A soul-less chain hotel with perfect facilities still loses to a well-run boutique with personality.

Every hotel on this page earned its spot through this process.

When to Visit Turin

Hotel prices, crowds, and weather vary by season.

Good but Warm

Summer

Avg hotel: $90-200/nightCrowds: ModerateTemp: 22-33C

Turin is less crowded than Venice or Florence in summer because it is off the standard tourist route. July temperatures hit 30-33C with some humidity. The Parco del Valentino is busy with locals. The Egyptian Museum has queues from 10am in July-August. Book tickets online.

Langhe Season

Autumn

Avg hotel: $80-180/nightCrowds: Low-ModerateTemp: 8-22C

October and November are the best for food. Alba white truffle fair in October-November draws culinary tourists but the city itself is not crowded. Barolo harvest in October. Temperatures are comfortable for walking. The Lingotto area hosts the Artissima contemporary art fair in November.

Best Value

Winter

Avg hotel: $70-150/nightCrowds: Very LowTemp: 0-10C

December to February brings genuine cold but Turin handles it well. The Christmas markets in Piazza Castello are among the best in northern Italy. Hot chocolate at historic cafes is the city at its most atmospheric. Prices are 20-30% lower than peak. Museums are quiet.

Booking Tips for Turin

Smart booking strategies for Turin.

Book the Egyptian Museum online

The Museo Egizio is the most visited museum in Turin and queues in summer can be 45-60 minutes without pre-booking. Online tickets at $17 from museoegizio.it let you choose a timed entry slot and go straight in. Book 2-3 days ahead in July-August. Tuesday evenings until 10pm offer discounted $10 entry with shorter queues.

Do aperitivo every evening

Turin invented the aperitivo and still does it properly. From 6-9pm, walk into any bar in the Quadrilatero Romano (near Via Garibaldi and Piazza Carignano) and order a $6-8 Vermouth or Campari. A proper spread of free food appears. Two drinks and two bars covers dinner. Do not eat at a restaurant before 9pm if you are doing aperitivo properly.

Stay near Porta Nuova for transport convenience

Porta Nuova station has high-speed trains to Milan (45 minutes, $20), airport buses ($8), and metro Line 1. Hotels within 10 minutes walk include Hotel Victoria on Via Nino Costa ($130-185, excellent) and Hotel Urbani near the station ($55-85, budget). Porta Susa station in the northwest is the other main hub for regional trains.

Take Metro Line 1 to Lingotto

The Lingotto complex (former Fiat factory, Eataly, Pinacoteca Agnelli, rooftop test track) is 15 minutes from Porta Nuova by Metro Line 1, south direction to Lingotto stop. The Eataly here is the best stocked location in Italy for Piedmontese specialties. Buy Barolo, Barbaresco, gianduja, and white truffle products to take home.

Visit the Palazzo Reale before 11am

The Royal Palace complex around Piazza Castello opens at 9am. Before 11am the rooms are quiet and the royal apartments (Hall of the Swiss Guards, the Gallery of Daniel, the Alcova) are remarkably atmospheric without crowds. The combined Palazzo Reale and Armeria Reale ticket is around $15. The Armeria alone has 5,000 pieces of medieval armour.

Try Caffè Al Bicerin at least once

Caffè Al Bicerin at Via della Consolata 5 has been serving the bicerin (hot espresso, thick hot chocolate, and whipped cream in three distinct layers) since 1763. The current room looks almost unchanged. A bicerin costs $6 and should be consumed slowly without stirring. The cafe is 10 minutes walk from Piazza Castello. Go in the morning or late afternoon to avoid a wait.

Hotels in Turin, FAQ

Straight answers from our team.

What is Turin known for?

The Egyptian Museum (Museo Egizio) has the second largest Egyptian collection outside Cairo, with over 40,000 objects. The Palazzo Reale (Royal Palace) and Palazzo Madama are UNESCO-listed Savoyard residences. Lingotto is the former Fiat factory complex where rooftop test tracks are preserved as a museum. Turin also invented the bicerin (espresso with chocolate and cream) and has some of Italy's best chocolate and aperitivo culture.

What is the best area to stay in Turin?

Porta Nuova station area for transport convenience and the best mid-range concentration. City center around Piazza Castello and Via Roma for walking access to the Egyptian Museum and Royal Palace. Crocetta district southeast of the Egyptian Museum for a quieter residential atmosphere at mid-range prices. Lingotto is distinctive but a 20-minute metro ride from the center.

How much do hotels in Turin cost?

Budget hotels near Porta Nuova run $55-85. Mid-range in the Crocetta and city center areas cost $72-185. Hotel Victoria on Via Nino Costa at $130-185 punches above its price. The upscale options (NH Lingotto, AC Turin) charge $150-280. Turin is significantly cheaper than Milan or Rome at equivalent quality levels.

Is Turin worth visiting?

Yes, and it is consistently undervalued by international tourists. The Egyptian Museum is genuinely world-class, one of the three best Egyptian collections on Earth. The chocolate and coffee culture is unmatched in Italy. The aperitivo tradition with Vermouth started here. The Alps are visible on clear days from Piazza Vittorio Veneto. Most visitors spend 2-3 days and wish they had more time.

How do I get to Turin?

Turin Caselle Airport is 16 kilometers north, connected to the city by the GTT SasTour bus ($8, 40 minutes to Porta Nuova). The Torino Express train takes 20 minutes from the airport for $8. High-speed trains from Milan take 45 minutes, from Rome about 4 hours. The main station is Porta Nuova in the city center.

What should I eat in Turin?

Bicerin (layered espresso, chocolate, and cream) at Caffè Al Bicerin near the Consolata church, open since 1763. Agnolotti dal plin (tiny stuffed pasta) with Barolo wine sauce at any Piedmontese restaurant for $15-18 per plate. The aperitivo culture means bars from 6-9pm offer free food with your $6 Vermouth. Eataly at the Lingotto complex stocks every Piedmontese specialty.

What are the best museums in Turin?

The Egyptian Museum on Via Accademia delle Scienze is the essential visit, allow 3-4 hours, entry $17. Directly next door is the Galleria Sabauda (Savoy art collection) included in the same ticket. The Mole Antonelliana houses the National Cinema Museum with an IMAX panoramic lift to the top. The Pinacoteca Agnelli at Lingotto has an intimate collection of Matisse, Picasso, and Canaletto.

What is the aperitivo culture in Turin?

Turin invented the aperitivo ritual and it is still practiced properly here. From 6-9pm, order a $6-8 Vermouth or Campari at any bar in the center and a buffet of free food appears (bruschetta, olives, rice balls, charcuterie). The best aperitivo bars are around Piazza Vittorio Veneto, Piazza Carignano, and the Quadrilatero Romano neighborhood near Via Garibaldi.

Are there good day trips from Turin?

The Langhe wine region is 60 kilometers south, home of Barolo and Barbaresco. Asti is 57 kilometers east with the Palio horse race in September. The Royal Residence at Venaria Reale (UNESCO) is 12 kilometers north and comparable to Versailles in scale but far less crowded. Alba with its white truffle market runs October-November and is 60 kilometers from Turin.

Is Turin good in winter?

Yes, genuinely. Turin makes excellent coffee and chocolate culture, both of which feel right in winter. The Alps are visible and snow-capped. Christmas markets run December in Piazza Castello and the center. Hotel prices are 20-30% lower than peak months. The Egyptian Museum and other indoor sites are quieter. Avoid only if you specifically need warm weather.

What neighborhood should I avoid in Turin?

The area around Porta Palazzo market (the largest outdoor market in Europe) is fine during market hours but less pleasant late evenings. The Barriera di Milano neighborhood in the northeast is Turin's most deprived area and off the tourist circuit entirely. Staying near the main stations (Porta Nuova, Porta Susa) is the most practical regardless.

How do I get around Turin?

Turin has a metro (Line 1 runs east-west from Lingotto to the airport connection). A single trip is $1.70, day pass $4.50. Trams cover the rest of the city. The historic center is walkable, about 2 kilometers from Porta Nuova to Piazza Castello. Lingotto in the south is best reached by metro. For the Royal Residences, the GTT bus network covers Venaria in 45 minutes from Porta Susa.
