Where to Stay in Jurmala

The neighborhood you pick matters more than the hotel.

How to pick the right part of Jurmala

Jurmala is 33km of coastline but most of the action is squeezed into a 3km stretch between Majori and Dzintari. That's where you want to be. Jomas iela, the main pedestrian street in Majori, is the reference point for everything: restaurants, cafés, shops, and beach access through the dunes.

Lielupe is worth considering if you want quiet riverbank scenery over beach buzz. Dubulti sits just west of Majori and is 10-15 minutes walk to Jomas iela, which keeps prices lower without isolating you. Bulduris is a smart pick if you're at Wellton for a week-long spa stay and don't need the Majori nightlife.

Getting to and around Jurmala without a car

The suburban train from Riga Central Station is the obvious move. It runs every 30 minutes, costs about €1.50-2 each way, and drops you right at Majori or Dubulti in 35-40 minutes. Don't take a taxi from Riga unless you have heavy bags or a late-night arrival. You'll pay €25-40 for something the train does better.

Inside Jurmala, walking is how locals move between Majori and Dzintari. It's about 15 minutes on foot along the beach path. There's also a local bus route connecting the main neighborhoods, but the train between stations (Majori, Dubulti, Dzintari) is faster and more frequent. Bikes are widely available for rent near Majori station for around €8-12 per day.

Summer in Jurmala: what you actually need to know

July is peak everything. Jomas iela gets genuinely crowded on weekends, hotels in Majori fill up weeks out, and beach parking near Bulduru prospekts hits €5/hour. Book your Majori or Lielupe hotel 6-8 weeks ahead if you're visiting in July or the first two weeks of August. The Jurmala City Festival in late July brings extra crowds and a real street-party atmosphere.

The water temperature peaks at around 20-22°C in late July. That sounds modest but for the Baltic it's genuinely swimable. The beach between Majori and Dzintari is the most popular stretch. If you want space, walk 20 minutes east toward Bulduri where the crowds thin out fast.

Spa culture in Jurmala: what to expect

Jurmala has been a wellness destination since the 1800s. The pine forests, Baltic air, and proximity to mineral-rich mud from the Kemeri wetlands made it a health resort long before anyone called it a spa town. That heritage is real. Hotels like Kurshi and Amber Sea take it seriously with proper treatment lists, not just a hot tub and a steam room.

Day spa access without a hotel booking is possible at most properties. Expect to pay €40-80 for a half-day package at Wellton Jurmala Spa Hotel in Bulduris or Amber Sea in Majori. Treatments like Latvian pine broom massage and Baltic amber body wraps are the local specials worth trying. Book treatments in advance in July and August. walk-in slots disappear by 10am.

Jurmala beyond the beach: what else to do

Kemeri National Park is 20 minutes by train or car from Majori and is genuinely spectacular. The Great Kemeri Bog boardwalk is a 3.4km loop through raised peat bog and feels nothing like the coast. Entry is free. Combine it with a morning in Jurmala and you've got a full day without spending much.

The Dzintari Concert Hall hosts outdoor classical and pop concerts all summer. It's a 15-minute walk from Majori station along the beach path. The Aspazija House Museum on Tirgoņu iela in Majori is small but gives real context for Latvian cultural history. And the wooden villa architecture along Jūras iela and Edinburgas prospekts is worth a slow walk even if museums aren't your thing.

What to skip in Jurmala

Skip any hotel or guesthouse advertising 'Jurmala' that's actually near Sloka or Kauguri train stations. You'll be 25+ minutes walk from the beach and isolated from restaurants. The savings aren't worth the logistics, especially if you're only staying a few nights. We've seen this mistake more than a few times.

Also ignore the generic souvenir shops clustered at the Majori train station exit. The amber jewelry there is mostly tourist-grade at tourist prices. Real amber pieces and local crafts are better and cheaper at the Jurmala City Market on Tirgus iela, which runs on weekends May through September. And don't bother renting a car just for Jurmala. parking in July costs more than the train and the distances don't justify it.

Jurmala's best hotel regions

Majori is where you want to be. It's the beating heart of Jurmala: Jomas iela pedestrian street, the best beach access, and the widest choice of hotels across every price bracket. Lielupe is quieter and more romantic, Dubulti is the sleeper pick for good value, and Bulduris suits families who want space without sacrificing the spa.

Majori 5 vetted hotels

The center of everything: beach, restaurants, and the best hotel selection.

Majori is Jurmala's main event. Jomas iela runs parallel to the beach through the neighborhood's pine-shaded center, lined with restaurants, ice cream shops, and café terraces that fill up fast in July. The beach is a 5-8 minute walk through the dunes from most hotels here.

Five of our 10 vetted hotels are in Majori, and they span the full price range: from Hotel Jūrmala at $55-85/night up to Amber Sea Hotel and Spa at $260-380/night. That spread is intentional. This is the right base for most visitors, whether you're here for a long weekend or a week.

The only downside: Majori gets genuinely busy in midsummer. Jomas iela on a Saturday evening in July is shoulder-to-shoulder. If you want the amenities without the crowds, book midweek or arrive in June.

Best areas Jomas iela, Edinburgas prospekts
Price range $55-380/night
Best for First-timers, beach access, dining, luxury stays
Avoid Hotels more than 15 min walk from Jomas iela
Best months June-August
Browse all Majori hotels →
Lielupe 2 vetted hotels

Quiet riverbank luxury, minutes from the dunes.

Lielupe sits at the western edge of the resort strip where the Lielupe River meets the sea. It's quieter than Majori, greener, and noticeably more private. Ragakapa Nature Reserve is right here, with walking trails through dune forest that feel a world away from the Jomas iela crowds.

Both of our Lielupe picks lean romantic and upscale. Pegasa Pils is a converted castle on the riverbank at $140-210/night. Lielupe by Semarah Hotels is the full luxury option at $290-420/night with river views and a polished spa. Neither tries to be a busy resort hotel, which is exactly the point.

You're about 20 minutes walk or a 2-stop train ride from Majori, which is close enough to dip in when you want restaurants or beach energy, but far enough that you won't hear it from your room.

Best areas Lielupe riverbank, Ragakapa dunes
Price range $140-420/night
Best for Couples, luxury stays, nature walks
Avoid If you want walkable restaurant options
Best months May-September
Browse all Lielupe hotels →
Dubulti & Dzintari 2 vetted hotels

Value and culture, just west of the Majori buzz.

Dubulti is immediately west of Majori and often overlooked. It's 10-12 minutes walk along Jūras iela to Jomas iela, close enough to access everything Majori offers without the peak-season price surge. Villa Santa sits here at $70-99/night and is the best pure value under $100 on the list.

Dzintari is the cultural edge of the resort. The Dzintari Concert Hall draws serious crowds in summer for everything from Latvian folk nights to international classical concerts. Dzintari Hotel at $195-249/night is set in a renovated villa and is 10 minutes from the hall on foot.

Both neighborhoods have less commercial noise than Majori central. The wooden villa architecture along Turaidas iela and Meža prospekts is some of the most photographed in Jurmala, and most of it is just here, not in Majori.

Best areas Dubulti center, Dzintari Concert Hall area
Price range $70-249/night
Best for Value seekers, culture, architecture lovers
Avoid Far end of Dzintari away from the train station
Best months June-August for concerts, May for quieter stays
Browse all Dubulti & Dzintari hotels →
Bulduris 1 vetted hotel

Family-friendly spa territory away from the main crowds.

Bulduris is a bit further from the Majori center but makes complete sense as a base if you're going deep on the spa experience. Wellton Jurmala Spa Hotel is anchored here at $150-220/night, with a kids' pool, multiple treatment pools, and direct beach access via Bulduru prospekts.

The neighborhood is residential and calm. There's no real restaurant strip here, so factor that in: you'll either eat at the hotel or take the 10-minute train ride to Majori. For families with young kids who need early bedtimes and quiet mornings, that trade-off is actually a plus.

Bulduris connects easily to Majori by train in 2 stops. The beach access point off Bulduru prospekts is less crowded than Majori's main beach even in peak July, which is a genuine advantage if you're with kids.

Best areas Near Wellton, Bulduru prospekts beach access
Price range $150-220/night
Best for Families, spa-focused stays, quieter beach
Avoid If you need walkable dining every evening
Best months June-August

Best Areas by Vibe

Tell us how you travel.

Romantic

Lielupe is your spot: riverside castle hotels, dune forest walks through Ragakapa Nature Reserve, and enough distance from the crowds to actually feel private. Pegasa Pils and Lielupe by Semarah Hotels both deliver.

Culture

Dzintari wins this one. The concert hall, wooden villa architecture on Meža prospekts, and proximity to the Aspazija House Museum in Majori make it the most culturally rich corner of the resort.

Family

Bulduris is built for families: Wellton Jurmala Spa Hotel has dedicated kids' facilities, the beach off Bulduru prospekts is quieter than Majori's main stretch, and the train to Majori takes under 5 minutes if you want more action.

Budget

Dubulti gives you the best bang for your lats: Villa Santa at $70-99/night is 12 minutes walk from Jomas iela, and Hotel Jūrmala in Majori starts at $55/night if you want to be closer to the action.

Beach

Majori is the beach capital of Jurmala. The stretch between Majori and Dzintari train stations is the widest, best-maintained, and most accessible part of the coastline, with lifeguards posted June through August.

Foodie

Stay in Majori and eat on Jomas iela. Restaurants like Orizzonte and 36.6 anchor a solid dining scene within 10 minutes walk of any Majori hotel. The weekend market on Tirgus iela is worth a morning for local smoked fish and fresh produce.

We reviewed 8,000+ options across the main regions of Jurmala. We cut hotels that use misleading 'beachfront' labels when they're actually a 15-minute walk from the water, Soviet-era properties that haven't been updated since the 1990s but still charge modern prices, and guesthouses near Sloka that have zero walkable amenities. If a hotel couldn't justify its rate with real quality or real location, it didn't make the list.

40%

Location Quality

Is the neighborhood walkable? Are restaurants, shops, and attractions within 10 minutes on foot? How does it feel after dark? We evaluate safety, public transport access, and whether the area has genuine local character or just tourist traps. A hotel in the wrong neighborhood ruins a trip. That's why location carries the most weight.

30%

Value for Money

We compare what you pay against what you get. A €150 hotel with a great location, clean rooms, and helpful staff can outscore a €500 hotel with fancy amenities in a bad area. We factor in seasonal pricing, cancellation policies, and hidden costs like tourist tax and breakfast surcharges. The goal is finding the best ratio, not the lowest price.

30%

Guest Experience

We analyze thousands of verified guest reviews across multiple platforms, looking for patterns rather than individual complaints. Consistent praise for cleanliness, staff, and room quality counts. We also assess the intangibles: does the hotel have character? Would you recommend it to a friend? A soul-less chain hotel with perfect facilities still loses to a well-run boutique with personality.

Every hotel on this page earned its spot through this process.

When to Visit Jurmala

Hotel prices, crowds, and weather vary by season.

Budget Friendly

Winter (November-March)

Avg hotel: $55-150/nightCrowds: LowTemp: -5-4°C

Jurmala in winter is quiet. Very quiet. Most beach-facing restaurants close or go to reduced hours, and Jomas iela loses much of its character. But spa hotels like Wellton Jurmala and Amber Sea stay fully operational, and rates hit their yearly lows at $55-150/night. If a full spa immersion in a pine-forest setting sounds appealing and you don't need sunshine, December through February actually works.

Booking Tips for Jurmala

Smart booking strategies for Jurmala.

Book Majori hotels 6-8 weeks out for July

The Jurmala City Festival in late July and the general midsummer surge mean that quality Majori hotels, especially Baltic Beach Hotel and Hotel Jūrmala Spa, fill completely by early June. If you're flexible on dates, the first two weeks of June and the last week of August give you near-peak conditions at 15-20% lower rates.

Take the train, not a taxi, from Riga

The suburban train from Riga Central Station to Majori runs every 30 minutes and costs about €1.50. A taxi covers the same 30km for €25-40, and traffic on the A10 highway backs up badly on Friday afternoons in summer. The train is faster, cheaper, and drops you directly at Majori station, which is 5 minutes walk from most central hotels.

Pay the Jurmala entry fee before you drive in

Jurmala charges a vehicle entry fee of €2-3 per day for cars entering the resort zone. You'll hit checkpoints on the main entry roads. Pay in advance at the official Jurmala.lv portal or at kiosks near the toll points to avoid queues. Local residents are exempt, but if you're renting a car from Riga, factor it in.

Book spa treatments before you arrive

At Amber Sea Hotel and Spa, Wellton Jurmala, and Kurshi Hotel and Spa, popular treatments like amber body wraps and pine broom massages book out by 10am on summer days. Call or email the spa department when you confirm your room, not on arrival. Peak season slots in July go up to 10 days in advance.

Stay in Majori, not near Sloka

Some listings advertise a 'Jurmala' address but are actually near Sloka or Kauguri stations, which are 25+ minutes walk from the beach and have no walkable restaurants. The price difference is maybe €15-20/night. It's not worth it. Anything west of Dubulti station adds logistics that will frustrate you by day two.

Combine Jurmala with a Kemeri National Park day trip

Kemeri station is 20 minutes by train from Majori and costs €1-1.50 each way. The Great Kemeri Bog boardwalk is free to walk and takes about 90 minutes at a relaxed pace. Go in the morning before the day-trippers arrive. Combine it with an evening on Jomas iela and you've covered the two best things in the greater Jurmala area in one day.

Hotels in Jurmala, FAQ

Straight answers from our team.

Which neighborhood in Jurmala is best for first-time visitors?

Majori. Full stop. Jomas iela is right there, the beach is a 5-minute walk through the pine dunes, and you're within reach of the best restaurants and cafés. Hotels here run $55-240/night depending on how much comfort you want. Stay anywhere between Majori train station and the Dzintari border and you're in the sweet spot.

How far is Jurmala from Riga?

About 30km by road, or 30-40 minutes on the suburban train from Riga Central Station. The train drops you at Majori, Dubulti, or Dzintari depending on how far along the coast you're staying. Tickets cost around €1.50-2 each way. Taxis from Riga run €25-40 depending on traffic and time of day.

When is the best time to visit Jurmala?

June through August is peak season. The Baltic actually warms up enough to swim (17-22°C), Jomas iela is buzzing, and the Dzintari Concert Hall has a full outdoor schedule. Book at least 6-8 weeks ahead for July, especially for Lielupe and Majori hotels. If you're fine skipping the beach swim, May and September give you the same scenery at 20-30% lower prices.

Are there good budget hotels in Jurmala?

Yes, but your options narrow fast below $100/night. Hotel Jūrmala in Majori starts at $55/night and is genuinely decent for the price. Villa Santa in Dubulti goes up to $99/night and punches above its weight. Below $55, you're into guesthouses near Sloka or Kauguri where the beach is 20+ minutes away and there's nothing walkable.

Is Jurmala good for a spa or wellness trip?

It's one of the best spa destinations in the Baltics, full stop. Kurshi Hotel and Spa, Wellton Jurmala Spa Hotel in Bulduris, and Amber Sea Hotel and Spa in Majori all have serious treatment menus. Prices for day spa access start around €40-60 if you're not a hotel guest. The tradition of health tourism here goes back to the 19th century when Russian aristocrats came for the pine-forest air.

Which Jurmala hotel is best for couples?

Pegasa Pils in Lielupe is the standout. It's a converted castle on the banks of the Lielupe River, and it genuinely earns its Romantic Stay badge. Lielupe by Semarah Hotels is a step up in luxury if budget isn't a concern, starting at $290/night. Both are a short walk from Ragakapa Nature Reserve, which makes for a memorable evening stroll.

Is Jurmala suitable for families with kids?

Absolutely. Wellton Jurmala Spa Hotel in Bulduris is the top family pick, with a dedicated kids' pool and plenty of space. The Majori beach is wide and calm, and the shallow Baltic water is safe for young children in summer. Keep in mind that parking near Jomas iela costs €3-5/hour in July and August, so arriving by train is genuinely smarter with kids in tow.

What's the best luxury hotel in Jurmala?

Amber Sea Hotel and Spa in Majori tops the list at $260-380/night, with a rating of 9.1. It's steps from the beach and has the most complete spa offering in town. Lielupe by Semarah Hotels is close behind at $290-420/night, set on the quieter Lielupe riverbank with a more intimate feel. Both are worth the money if you're treating yourself.

Are there areas in Jurmala to avoid?

Yes. Skip hotels near Sloka and Kauguri at the far western end of the resort. They're far from both the beach and Jomas iela, and public transport back to Riga is slower from those stops. Some guesthouses near Priedaine advertise 'Jurmala' addresses but are effectively in a suburban dead zone. The extra €15-20/night to stay in Majori or Dubulti is always worth it.

Can I visit Jurmala as a day trip from Riga?

Yes, and many people do. The train from Riga Central takes about 35 minutes to Majori for around €1.50. But if you're staying more than one night, sleeping in Jurmala is a different experience. The mornings are quiet, the pine air is real, and evening Jomas iela has a completely different pace once the day-trippers leave.

What is the best hotel in Jurmala for the price?

Dzintari Hotel in the Dzintari neighborhood offers the clearest value at $195-249/night with a rating of 8.2. It's 10 minutes walk from Dzintari Concert Hall and quieter than the Majori cluster without sacrificing quality. If you're on a tighter budget, Villa Santa in Dubulti at $70-99/night is the smart move under $100.

Does Jurmala have good restaurants and nightlife?

The restaurant scene on Jomas iela is solid, with places like Orizzonte and 36.6 covering everything from Latvian to Mediterranean. Nightlife is low-key except during the summer festival months of July and August. Most good restaurants are within a 10-minute walk of Majori station, and reservations are a smart call on weekends from June through August.
