Lielupe is worth considering if you want quiet riverbank scenery over beach buzz. Dubulti sits just west of Majori and is 10-15 minutes walk to Jomas iela, which keeps prices lower without isolating you. What to skip in Jurmala
Skip any hotel or guesthouse advertising 'Jurmala' that's actually near Sloka or Kauguri train stations. You'll be 25+ minutes walk from the beach and isolated from restaurants. Also ignore the generic souvenir shops clustered at the Majori train station exit. The amber jewelry there is mostly tourist-grade at tourist prices. Real amber pieces and local crafts are better and cheaper at the Jurmala City Market on Tirgus iela, which runs on weekends May through September. And don't bother renting a car just for Jurmala. parking in July costs more than the train and the distances don't justify it.
