InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort
At $515 a night, you'd better love the view. And you will. Perched on Son Tra Peninsula, this resort delivers one of Vietnam's most dramatic settings. The private beach and multiple pools justify the splurge. Skip if you need city access. Everything here is by design and deliberately isolated.

Cao Bang Eco Homestay
$8 a night in Cao Bang's karst valley region means you're choosing this for the experience, not comfort. Guests consistently rave about the hosts. You'll need your own transport to explore the surroundings. Don't expect hot showers or fast Wi-Fi. Do expect one of the most authentic stays in northern Vietnam.

Where to Stay in Dalat
The neighborhood you pick matters more than the hotel.
The Xuan Huong Lake Circuit: Dalat in a Day
Start at the east end of Xuan Huong Lake around 7am when mist still hangs over the water. Walk the full 7km lakeside path counterclockwise past joggers, swan boats, and the yellow Dalat Palace Golf Club on the south shore. The loop takes about 90 minutes at a relaxed pace.
Cut through to the Night Market area on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai for breakfast. The banh can stall at the market entrance opens at 6:30am and runs out by 9am. Pair it with soy milk from the corner cart. Total: about 40,000 VND.
Afternoon: walk south on Tran Hung Dao to the Crazy House (80,000 VND entry), then continue 800 meters to the Railway Station. End back at the Night Market for banh trang nuong and strawberry smoothies. Full day under $15 excluding meals.
Beyond the City: Best Day Trips from Dalat
Cau Dat Tea Plantation sits 25km south. Drive yourself by motorbike (45 minutes on winding mountain roads) or hire a Grab car for 300,000 VND round trip. Free entry, cafe serves tea from 20,000 VND. Early morning arrivals before 8am get the best light across terraced hillsides.
Langbiang Mountain is 12km north, the tallest peak near Dalat at 2,167 meters. Jeep to the lower summit (120,000 VND) or hike the full trail in 3 hours. The last 45 minutes is steep scrambling. Bring water, start before 8am.
Datanla Waterfall (7km south, 50,000 VND entry) has a 1.5km alpine coaster dropping 320 meters through forest for 80,000 VND. Genuinely thrilling. The waterfall is average, but the coaster justifies the trip alone.
Dalat Coffee Culture: A Serious Guide
Dalat sits at the heart of Vietnams coffee region. Arabica beans from Cau Dat and K Ho villages are some of the countrys best, but most tourist-center cafes serve robusta. For genuine single-origin arabica, La Viet Coffee on Tran Phu roasts on-site with pour-overs at 45,000 VND.
Genuine civet coffee costs 500,000-800,000 VND per cup. The 80,000 VND versions are synthetic enzyme-processed, tasting almost identical. Me Linh Coffee Garden (12km out) is transparent about the process. Worth trying once.
The cafe cluster on Nguyen Chi Thanh between the lake and market is the social hub. An Cafe has lake views. K Coffee does excellent egg coffee for 35,000 VND. Rooftop bars on Bui Thi Xuan open after 5pm with arabica cold brew cocktails.
Where to Eat in Dalat: Beyond the Night Market
Night Market on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai: banh trang nuong costs 15,000-20,000 VND. Stalls on the left entering from Hoa Binh Square are consistently better than the right. Avoid any stall without a queue.
Lien Hoa on Phan Dinh Phung serves vegetarian Vietnamese food that meat lovers recommend. Set lunch 50,000 VND for 3 dishes. Goc Ha Thanh on Nguyen Chi Thanh does excellent lau (hotpot) starting at 180,000 VND for two.
Le Chalet on Tran Phu: 3-course dinner 350,000-500,000 VND. The duck confit with Dalat artichoke puree is worth it. Street breakfast: banh mi xiu mai at 15 Nguyen Van Troi opens 6am, sells out by 7am.
Dalat with Kids: Family-Friendly Itinerary
Dalat works for families. Mild 18-25 degree weather means no heat exhaustion, and the compact center minimizes driving. Start at Dalat Flower Garden (40,000 VND adults, 20,000 kids), then walk to Xuan Huong Lake for swan pedal boats (80,000 VND per 30 minutes).
The alpine coaster at Datanla is the highlight for kids over 6 at 80,000 VND per ride. QUE Garden (15km out) has strawberry picking at 100,000 VND per kilo. The Railway train to Trai Mat (150,000 VND round trip) is a manageable 30-minute ride.
Stay around Phan Dinh Phung where sidewalks are wider and traffic calmer. TTC Ngoc Lan has family rooms from $105 per night with breakfast. Avoid steep hillside streets where strollers become useless.
Romantic Dalat: Couples Guide
Dalat has been Vietnams honeymoon capital since the French colonial era. Cool evenings, fireplace hotels, and misty lake views create something most Southeast Asian beach towns cannot match. Ana Mandara Villas on Le Lai occupies restored 1920s French houses from $270 per night.
Book dinner at Dalat Palace on Tran Phu. The dining room overlooks Xuan Huong Lake, 4-course dinner for two about 1,500,000 VND including wine. Le Chalet offers fondue for 380,000 VND in a pine-paneled cabin.
Skip the Valley of Love entirely. Tacky theme park with heart hedges and mascots. Instead, ride to Tuyen Lam Lake at sunset. The 7km pine forest road is gorgeous, and lakeside cafes serve drinks from 30,000 VND with views that actually earn the word romantic.
Dalat's best hotel regions
Dalat spreads across rolling hills at 1,500 meters above sea level. The central area around Xuan Huong Lake packs in most hotels and the Night Market. Go further out toward Tuyen Lam Lake or the pine forests for quiet villa stays.

The heart of Dalat wraps around Xuan Huong Lake and radiates to Hoa Binh Square and the Night Market. Most travelers stay here, with the highest concentration of restaurants, cafes, and shops within a 10-minute walk.
Hotels range from $45 guesthouses to the $310+ Dalat Palace Heritage overlooking the lake. Trade-off: weekend karaoke noise on Nguyen Chi Thanh and tour bus traffic. Weekdays are noticeably quieter.

Western Dalat around Cam Ly waterfall is where budget travelers and long-stay visitors land. Cheaper hotels, more local vibe, and the strawberry farms supplying Night Market stalls are nearby.
Cam Ly waterfall itself is disappointing (polluted, 20,000 VND, skip it). But the neighborhood has authentic com tam for 30,000 VND and pho for 25,000 VND. 15-minute motorbike ride to center. Grab is spotty after 9pm.

We reviewed over 3,200 properties across Dalat, from the lakeside center to the coffee plantation outskirts near Cau Dat. Price, location relative to the Night Market, and honest guest feedback drove every pick.
Location Quality
Is the neighborhood walkable? Are restaurants, shops, and attractions within 10 minutes on foot? How does it feel after dark? We evaluate safety, public transport access, and whether the area has genuine local character or just tourist traps. A hotel in the wrong neighborhood ruins a trip. That's why location carries the most weight.
Value for Money
We compare what you pay against what you get. A €150 hotel with a great location, clean rooms, and helpful staff can outscore a €500 hotel with fancy amenities in a bad area. We factor in seasonal pricing, cancellation policies, and hidden costs like tourist tax and breakfast surcharges. The goal is finding the best ratio, not the lowest price.
Guest Experience
We analyze thousands of verified guest reviews across multiple platforms, looking for patterns rather than individual complaints. Consistent praise for cleanliness, staff, and room quality counts. We also assess the intangibles: does the hotel have character? Would you recommend it to a friend? A soul-less chain hotel with perfect facilities still loses to a well-run boutique with personality.
Every hotel on this page earned its spot through this process.
When to Visit Dalat
Hotel prices, crowds, and weather vary by season.
Dry Season (Nov-Mar)
Clear skies, cool nights at 10-15 degrees. December and January are peak when Saigon residents escape for Christmas and Tet. Book 3-4 weeks ahead for December. February after Tet is the sweet spot: same weather, fewer crowds, 15-20% lower prices.
Spring (Apr-May)
Temperatures warm up, afternoon showers start in late May. Still comfortable for sightseeing with hotel prices 20-30% below peak. Hydrangeas bloom along hillside roads in April. May is transitional: sunny mornings, unpredictable afternoons.
Rainy Season (Jun-Sep)
Daily afternoon downpours from 2-5pm are almost guaranteed. Mornings usually clear, so plan outdoor activities before noon. Prices hit their lowest with mid-range hotels at $80-120. Dalat is lush, green, and nearly tourist-free. Waterfalls peak.
Autumn (Oct)
Tail end of rainy season, showers less frequent by the third week. A gamble: some years October is gorgeous, others rain through the 25th. Prices stay low and autumn light through pine forests is photogenic. Good for budget travelers accepting weather uncertainty.
Booking Tips for Dalat
Smart booking strategies for Dalat.
Book Tet holiday stays 6 weeks early
Vietnamese New Year (late January or early February) floods Dalat with domestic tourists. Prices triple and the Night Market becomes shoulder-to-shoulder. Book by mid-December. Visit the week after Tet when prices crash and the city empties out.
Grab works but has limits after 9pm
Grab motorbikes and cars run throughout central Dalat until about 9pm. After that, availability drops sharply for rides to Tuyen Lam Lake. If staying outside center, arrange return transport with your hotel or save your drivers number. Airport to Xuan Huong Lake costs about 250,000 VND.
Bring warm clothes for evenings
Dalat sits at 1,500 meters. Daytime is 20-25 degrees, but evenings drop to 12-16 from November through March. Most hotels provide extra blankets. Coming from HCMC in shorts? Buy a hoodie at the Night Market for 100,000-200,000 VND.
Motorbike rental scams are common
Shops on Truong Cong Dinh rent automatics for 100,000-150,000 VND per day. Photograph every scratch before riding off and video the odometer. Some shops claim pre-existing damage on return. Use shops your hotel recommends. Hills are steep and roads get wet.
Skip tourist waterfalls, hike Langbiang
Elephant Falls (30km, 20,000 VND) and Pongour Falls (50km, 20,000 VND) are long drives for underwhelming payoffs. Datanla is the exception for its alpine coaster. For nature, invest 3 hours in Langbiang hike (12km north, 50,000 VND entry). Summit views are the best panorama near Dalat.
Coffee plantations are free to visit
Cau Dat Tea Plantation (25km south) charges nothing, cafe serves tea from 20,000 VND. K Ho Coffee Village (15km east) welcomes visitors to walk arabica rows. Me Linh Coffee Garden (12km out) is the popular stop with weasel coffee at 80,000 VND. All are genuine working farms.
Hotels in Dalat, FAQ
Straight answers from our team.
What is the best area to stay in Dalat?
The area around Xuan Huong Lake and Hoa Binh Square is the top pick. You are 5 minutes walk from the Night Market, surrounded by local coffee shops on Nguyen Chi Thanh street, and most restaurants cluster within 500 meters. Couples should look at Tuyen Lam Lake area, about 7km south, for lakeside villa resorts away from weekend crowds.
How much do hotels cost in Dalat?
Budget guesthouses near the central market start at 500,000 VND ($20) per night but quality jumps at the $45-75 range. Mid-range hotels around Phan Dinh Phung run $105-240 per night. Luxury resorts near Tuyen Lam Lake charge $270-420, a fraction of similar properties in Nha Trang or Phu Quoc.
Is Dalat worth visiting or just overhyped?
Dalat is genuinely worth it if you skip the tourist traps. Avoid the Valley of Love and Dalat Flower Park, both overpriced at 50,000-100,000 VND for forgettable experiences. Head to Cau Dat Tea Plantation (25km south, free entry) or hike Langbiang Mountain instead. The real draw is the food scene on Nguyen Van Troi and the 18-22 degree weather year-round.
When is the best time to visit Dalat?
November through March is ideal. Temperatures hover around 15-22 degrees Celsius with minimal rain. December and January nights drop to 10-12 degrees, perfect for fireplace-and-hot-pot evenings. Avoid June through September when afternoon downpours are almost guaranteed.
How do I get from Ho Chi Minh City to Dalat?
The fastest option is a 50-minute flight from Tan Son Nhat to Lien Khuong Airport (30km from central Dalat). Flights cost 600,000-1,200,000 VND one way on VietJet or Vietnam Airlines. The scenic route is the Futa Bus sleeper from Pham Ngu Lao for 250,000 VND, taking 6-7 hours.
What food should I try in Dalat?
Start with banh trang nuong (Dalat pizza) at the Night Market for 15,000 VND each. For banh mi xiu mai, the queue at 15 Nguyen Van Troi tells you everything. Kem bo (avocado ice cream) at Thanh Thao on Tang Bat Ho costs 25,000 VND. And weasel coffee at Me Linh Coffee Garden, 12km from center, runs 80,000 VND per cup.
Is Dalat safe for solo travelers?
Dalat is one of the safest cities in Vietnam for solo travelers. Violent crime is essentially nonexistent around Hoa Binh Square and Xuan Huong Lake. The main risk is motorbike rental scams on Truong Cong Dinh street. Photograph every scratch before riding off. Walking alone at night near the Night Market is perfectly fine past midnight.
Do I need a motorbike in Dalat?
For the city center around Xuan Huong Lake and the Night Market, no. Everything is within 15 minutes walk. But Dalat spreads fast: Crazy House is 2km away, Tuyen Lam Lake 7km, Cau Dat 25km. Renting a semi-automatic costs 100,000-150,000 VND per day on Phan Dinh Phung. The hills are steep though.
What are the best coffee shops in Dalat?
An Cafe on Nguyen Chi Thanh is the local favorite with ca phe sua da at 25,000 VND and lake views. La Viet Coffee on Tran Phu roasts its own Cau Dat beans in an industrial warehouse, filter coffee 35,000 VND. Skip the overpriced spots around the Flower Park charging 60,000 VND for instant coffee.
Can I do Dalat as a day trip from HCMC?
Technically possible but not worth it. The 50-minute flight plus 45-minute airport transfer each way eats 3-4 hours. Dalat deserves 2 nights minimum. One day for the central area (Night Market, Xuan Huong Lake, coffee shops) and one for the outskirts (Cau Dat, Langbiang, Tuyen Lam Lake).
What should I avoid in Dalat?
Skip the Valley of Love (100,000 VND entry, tacky photo backdrops), Dalat Flower Park (40,000 VND, underwhelming), and the Wax Museum (150,000 VND, terrible). Avoid hotels on steep Le Dai Hanh street unless you enjoy a 20-minute uphill walk every evening. Do not book canyoning from street touts. Use Phat Tire Ventures or Dalat Happy Tours.
Is the Dalat Railway worth visiting?
The station itself is a beautiful 1930s French colonial building, free to walk around. The tourist train to Trai Mat takes 30 minutes and costs 150,000 VND round trip. Trai Mat has Linh Phuoc Pagoda with its impressive mosaic dragon facade. Go on a weekday morning to avoid 30-minute ticket queues.
