Where to Stay Guide

Where to Stay Near Antelope Canyon

Page, Arizona is your only real base. Antelope Canyon sits on Navajo Nation land with zero overnight options. Here is which part of Page actually makes sense for your itinerary.

Downtown Page (Lake Powell Boulevard)

Most practical base, 10 minutes from both canyons, walkable to food

Mid-range $120-$250/night

Lake Powell Boulevard is Page's commercial spine and the smartest default choice. The Hyatt Place and Courtyard by Marriott both sit near the intersection of N Lake Powell Blvd and Navajo Drive, putting you 5 minutes from the Safeway, a handful of sit-down restaurants including Fiesta Mexicana, and the tour staging areas for Antelope Canyon. The streets are flat, parking is free everywhere, and navigating is simple. It looks like a standard Southwest highway town rather than a resort. That is fine. You lose nothing by not being lakeside, and you save 10 minutes each way on every canyon run compared to the marina area.

Best for
First-timersmid-range travelersanyone doing Antelope Canyon plus Horseshoe Bend in a single day without wasting time on the road
Walk times
  • Upper Antelope Canyon entrance on AZ-98 10 min
  • Horseshoe Bend trailhead on US-89 8 min
  • Glen Canyon Dam Carl Hayden Visitor Center 6 min
Skip if: You want lake views or a resort atmosphere. Lake Powell Boulevard is functional, not scenic.
Local tip: Book your Antelope Canyon tour before you book your hotel. Tour availability sets your arrival date. Upper Canyon slots at peak light (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) sell out 2 to 3 months ahead in summer.

Wahweap Marina Area

Genuine lake views, premium prices, 15 minutes from the canyon

Luxury $200-$380/night

Wahweap sits about 5 miles northwest of downtown Page along Lakeshore Drive, directly on Lake Powell. The Lake Powell Resort anchors the area with waterfront rooms and boat rentals at the marina. Sunsets here are legitimately good. The tradeoff is real: Antelope Canyon is 15 minutes away and Horseshoe Bend is 20. Walkable dining outside the resort does not exist. If you are adding a lake cruise, Rainbow Bridge boat tour, or kayaking to the itinerary, this location justifies itself. If canyons are your sole reason for being here, the 30 to 60 percent premium over downtown rates is hard to defend.

Best for
Couplesphotographers chasing lake sunsetstravelers combining Antelope Canyon with a Lake Powell boat tour or kayak rental
Walk times
  • Upper Antelope Canyon entrance 15 min
  • Wahweap Marina boat launch 2 min
  • Horseshoe Bend trailhead 20 min
Skip if: Canyons are your only goal. The added distance and price premium do not improve the canyon experience at all.
Local tip: Lake Powell Resort fills solid from April through September. Book 3 months ahead. March and October cut rates by roughly 30 percent and still offer solid weather.

South Page (US-89 Corridor near Horseshoe Bend)

Cheapest rooms in the area, 5 minutes from Horseshoe Bend

Mid-range $85-$150/night

The section of US-89 running south from Page downtown toward the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area boundary collects the lowest-priced motels in the region. Rooms run $85 to $150 per night with no resort amenities. The Horseshoe Bend trailhead sits 3 miles south at the Carl Hayden Memorial parking area off US-89 ($10 per vehicle). Getting to Antelope Canyon from here requires driving back north through Page and then east on AZ-98, adding about 12 to 15 minutes. Restaurants mean a 5-minute drive into town. The strip is not attractive, but it positions you for a 7 a.m. Horseshoe Bend hike before the Las Vegas tour buses arrive.

Best for
Budget travelerssolo hikersanyone who prioritizes Horseshoe Bend over Antelope Canyonearly risers wanting the bend before crowds
Walk times
  • Horseshoe Bend trailhead parking on US-89 5 min
  • Upper Antelope Canyon entrance 15 min
  • Page downtown restaurants on Lake Powell Blvd 6 min
Skip if: You need a pool in summer heat (Page hits 105 degrees in July) or want walkable food. Most properties here are basic strip motels.
Local tip: Horseshoe Bend gets packed by 8 a.m. from April to October. Staying south of town means you can walk the 1.5-mile round trip at sunrise and be done before the crowds reach the overlook.

North Page (Glen Canyon Dam Side)

Quieter, good mid-range value, closest to the dam tour

Mid-range $100-$180/night

The northern edge of Page around N Navajo Drive and the roads descending toward the Glen Canyon Dam sits noticeably quieter than the Lake Powell Boulevard strip. Mid-range hotels in this pocket run $100 to $180 per night. The Carl Hayden Visitor Center on US-89 offers free dam tours and sits about 5 minutes from here. Antelope Canyon is 10 minutes east on AZ-98. This area works well if you are driving south from Utah on US-89 and want to skip navigating through downtown, or if the Glen Canyon Dam tour is a genuine priority. Dining options are limited and require a short drive into town.

Best for
Road-trippers coming from Utahtravelers adding a Glen Canyon Dam walkthroughanyone wanting quieter surroundings without paying marina prices
Walk times
  • Upper Antelope Canyon entrance 10 min
  • Glen Canyon Dam Carl Hayden Visitor Center 5 min
  • Horseshoe Bend trailhead 12 min
Skip if: You want walkable restaurants or a lively strip. This end of Page is mostly residential with limited nearby dining.
Local tip: Glen Canyon Dam tours are free and run on a walk-in basis from the Carl Hayden Visitor Center. Staying on this side of Page means you arrive before the downtown hotel crowds show up.

Can you stay inside Antelope Canyon?

No. Antelope Canyon is on Navajo Nation land managed by the Navajo Nation Parks and Recreation Department. There is no accommodation of any kind at the canyon itself, no camping, and no overnight access. Page, Arizona, 5 to 10 miles west depending on which canyon entrance you use, is the only practical base. The drive from Page downtown to Upper Antelope Canyon on AZ-98 takes about 10 minutes.

How far is Page from Antelope Canyon, and do I need a car?

Upper Antelope Canyon is roughly 6.7 miles from central Page via AZ-98, about a 10-minute drive. Lower Antelope Canyon is closer at around 4.8 miles. You need either a car or a guided tour that includes transportation. Some tour operators based on Lake Powell Boulevard offer hotel pickup, which eliminates the drive entirely. Renting a car in Page is possible but inventory is thin, especially in summer. Book in advance or arrange transportation before you arrive.

Is the Lake Powell Resort at Wahweap worth the extra cost for an Antelope Canyon trip?

Only if water activities are part of your plan. The resort sits directly on Lake Powell with boat rentals and tour departures at the marina. If your itinerary is Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend only, the 15-minute canyon commute and 30 to 60 percent price premium compared to downtown Page hotels are difficult to justify. Downtown hotels at $120 to $220 per night put you closer to both canyon entrances for considerably less.

When is the best time of day to visit Antelope Canyon, and should that affect where I stay in Page?

Upper Antelope Canyon is most photogenic between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. when sunbeams drop to the canyon floor. Those tour slots are most expensive and sell out fastest. Lower Antelope Canyon has strong light conditions throughout the day and is less crowded. Regardless of where you stay in Page, the drive to either entrance is under 15 minutes. Hotel location barely affects timing. What matters far more is booking your tour slot weeks or months in advance during spring and summer.
