01

Eagle Beach

The most romantic stretch of sand on the island

Luxury $250-$450/night

Eagle Beach runs along J.E. Irausquin Boulevard and consistently ranks among the Caribbean's best beaches. The crowds are thinner than Palm Beach, the water calmer, the pace slower. Fewer chain hotels here: mostly low-rise boutique resorts set back from a wide, powdery shore. Couples walk the full 1.5km at sunrise before anyone else arrives. Dinner at Screaming Eagle, just off the sand on J.E. Irausquin, delivers theatrical decor, outdoor beds, and cocktails that justify the price. This is the pick if you want romance without engineering it.

Best for
Couples who want a quieter beachfewer touristsand a genuinely romantic atmosphere without giving up comfort
Walk times
  • Palm Beach bars 25 min
  • Butterfly Farm 10 min
  • Oranjestad 20 min
Skip if: You want walkable nightlife or a loud pool scene every evening
Local tip: Book Screaming Eagle at least 3 days ahead. The outdoor bed tables and low lighting make it the best date-night dinner on the island, but it fills up fast in high season.

Palm Beach

High-rise energy, nonstop options, everything within reach

Luxury $300-$600/night

Palm Beach runs along J.E. Irausquin Boulevard and packs every hotel category, restaurant, and water sport into one strip. Couples who want options come here. Snorkel in the morning, parasail at noon, and hit Bugaloe Beach Bar at Hadicurari Pier for sunset drinks without touching a car. The water is calm, the beach wide, and restaurants stay open past midnight. The trade-off is volume. This beach fills by 10am and gets loud by 9pm. But if you want the full Aruba experience, this is where it happens.

Best for
Couples who want activityconvenienceand a social atmosphere with restaurants and bars at walking distance
Walk times
  • Eagle Beach 25 min
  • Palm Beach Plaza Mall 10 min
  • Bugaloe Beach Bar at Hadicurari Pier 15 min
Skip if: You came to Aruba for peace. This strip never truly goes quiet.
Local tip: Ask your hotel for a cabana reservation the evening before. The shaded spots on Palm Beach disappear fast, especially between December and April.

Oranjestad

Dutch colonial character, walkable streets, real local life

Luxury $200-$380/night

Oranjestad is Aruba's capital, built along the harbour with Dutch colonial buildings painted in pastel yellow, coral, and turquoise. Nassaustraat and Wilhelminastraat form the main dining and shopping core, both fully walkable. Renaissance Marketplace sits on the waterfront, and Renaissance Island just offshore has a private flamingo beach exclusive to hotel guests. Couples who choose Oranjestad trade beach proximity for culture. Wilhelmina Restaurant on Wilhelminastraat serves $18 mains instead of $35 resort plates. It is a different kind of Aruba: more real, slightly less polished.

Best for
Couples who want local characterbetter restaurant valueand cultural texture alongside beach access
Walk times
  • Nassaustraat shopping 5 min
  • Eagle Beach 15 min
  • Harbour restaurants 8 min
Skip if: Your priority is waking up steps from the water. Oranjestad sits inland from the main beaches.
Local tip: Renaissance Island's flamingo beach is exclusive to hotel guests. Day passes sell at the front desk but are gone by 9am. If you want flamingos, stay at Renaissance or arrive at opening.

Malmok and Noord

No tourist strip, no noise, just a quiet corner of the island

Luxury $180-$350/night

Malmok sits at Aruba's northwestern tip, past the main beach hotels and just below the California Lighthouse. Noord is the residential parish inland, where Aruban families live and local restaurants are concentrated. Couples rent villas or book smaller boutique properties here. Arashi Beach, at the edge of Malmok, offers excellent snorkeling 50 meters from shore with no vendors or chair rentals. Gasparito Restaurant in Noord serves authentic Aruban cuisine inside a 17th-century cunucu house. The lack of tourist infrastructure is the point. You need a car, but you also get actual peace.

Best for
Couples who want a secludedlocals-first experience with outstanding snorkeling and genuine quiet
Walk times
  • California Lighthouse 15 min
  • Arashi Beach 10 min
  • Palm Beach restaurants 15 min
Skip if: You want to walk to dinner and bars. You need a car for almost everything from here.
Local tip: Gasparito Restaurant in Noord is where Aruban families celebrate anniversaries. Call ahead 2 days out to book. Order the keshi yena. It costs $22 and is the best thing on the menu.

What is the best area in Aruba for a honeymoon?

Eagle Beach is the top pick for honeymoons. The beach is wider and less crowded than Palm Beach, the resorts are lower-rise and quieter, and Screaming Eagle restaurant on J.E. Irausquin delivers the kind of theatrical dinner that makes a night memorable. Expect $300-450 per night for a solid resort. Book at least 3 months ahead if you are traveling December through April.

Is Palm Beach or Eagle Beach better for couples?

Eagle Beach wins for pure romance. Palm Beach wins if you want activity. Eagle Beach has calmer water, fewer people, and a slower pace. Palm Beach puts more restaurants and bars within walking distance and runs at a livelier volume. Honeymooning: Eagle Beach. Want to mix beach time with water sports and late nights: Palm Beach.

How much does a couples hotel in Aruba cost per night?

Budget $250-350 per night for a solid mid-range hotel during peak season (December to April). Luxury resorts on Palm Beach or Eagle Beach run $400-700. Oranjestad and Malmok offer boutique properties from $180-300. Aruba is not a cheap destination. Add $60-100 per day for meals and activities on top of your room.

Do couples need a car in Aruba?

It depends on where you stay. Palm Beach and Eagle Beach are walkable within their own strips. Oranjestad is compact on foot. Malmok and Noord require a car for almost everything. Rentals run $40-70 per day. Taxis are reliable but add up. Most couples rent a car for at least a few days to reach the California Lighthouse, Arikok National Park, and Arashi Beach.
