The Loop
Architecture, theater, and the Bean at your doorstep
The Loop is downtown's historic core, bounded by the elevated train tracks that give it the name. Stay here if Millennium Park, the Art Institute, and the Chicago Theatre on State Street are top of your list. Wabash Avenue and Dearborn Street put you under the rumbling L tracks, which is part of the charm but also the noise. The southern edge near Congress Parkway gets quiet after office hours, so book closer to Randolph or Washington for evening foot traffic. Pedway access matters in winter. Restaurants here cater to the lunch crowd, so plan dinners in River North or West Loop.
