Ksamil is small. The whole village fits in about 3 square kilometers, and the best beaches. Ksamil Beach and Freddo Beach. are both within walking distance of Central Ksamil. Pick accommodation on Ksamil Beach Road or the Waterfront and you won't need a car for the first few days.
The 4 small islands just offshore are the visual icon of Ksamil. Boat taxis to the closest island leave from the Ksamil Waterfront and cost 500-800 lek return depending on the season. Go before 10am or after 4pm. midday is standing room only on those tiny beaches.
How to get around Ksamil without a car
Within Ksamil itself, you walk. The stretch from North Ksamil down to South Beach is about 25 minutes on foot. completely doable. Furgon minibuses connect Ksamil Village Center to Sarandë bus station for 200 lek and run regularly from June through September.
For Butrint National Park and Blue Eye Spring, you need wheels. Scooter rental near Ksamil Village Center runs 2,000-2,500 lek per day ($18-22). Taxis for a half-day Butrint excursion cost around 2,500-3,000 lek ($22-27). Renting a car in Sarandë and driving down makes sense if you're staying a week and want full flexibility.
Ksamil in peak season: what actually changes
July and August transform Ksamil from a quiet coastal village into one of the most crowded spots on the Albanian Riviera. Ksamil Beach gets packed by 9am. Parking near the beach becomes genuinely chaotic. Restaurant queues on the main strip near Ksamil Waterfront can hit 45 minutes on weekends.
The water is still exceptional. 26-28°C in August. But if you're visiting in peak season, lean into it. Book a hotel with a private beach or pool (Freddo Beach Hotel and Hotel Porto Eda both have this), eat dinner at 7pm before the rush, and leave the crowded main beach for the smaller coves around Southern Ksamil.
Day trips you shouldn't skip
Butrint is 10 minutes south of Ksamil by car and one of the best archaeological sites in the Balkans. The ruins stretch from 8th century BC Greek foundations through Roman baths, a Byzantine baptistery, and Venetian fortifications. all inside a nature reserve. Entry is 700 lek ($6). Spend 2-3 hours minimum.
Blue Eye Spring (Syri i Kaltër) is 25 minutes northwest near Muzinë village. The water bubbles up from an underground river at a constant 10°C. startlingly blue and surrounded by forest. It's free to enter. Go early; by midday the car park near the spring fills up and the walk from overflow parking is 20 minutes each way.
Where to eat in Ksamil (honest picks)
The seafood restaurants along Ksamil Waterfront are solid but know your audience: they're priced for tourists. Fresh grilled fish runs 1,200-2,000 lek ($11-18) per portion. For better value, walk two streets back from the waterfront toward Ksamil Village Center where local tavernas serve the same quality for 30% less.
Byrek (flaky pastry with cheese or spinach) from the village bakery near Ksamil Village Center costs 100-150 lek and makes a perfect beach breakfast. Cold espresso. known locally as 'kafja e ftohtë'. is the Albanian Riviera's version of an iced coffee and costs 80-120 lek at any café on the main strip. Don't leave without trying it.
Booking strategy by travel style
Coming in July or August with a specific hotel in mind? Book 3 months out, minimum. The properties on Ksamil Beach and Freddo Beach go first. If you're flexible on dates, the window of June 1-20 and September 5-25 gives you 80-90% of the summer experience at 30-40% lower prices.
Couples should look seriously at Freddo Beach Hotel on Freddo Beach. it's built for two and the setting justifies every dollar. This is the heart of Ksamil. Ksamil Beach Road runs parallel to the main beach, and the Waterfront curves around toward the island boat taxis. Hotels here charge a premium. expect $115-380/night. but you're literally steps from the best swimming in Albania.
Hotel Kamelot sits right on Ksamil Beach with a pool that faces the islands. Hotel Porto Eda on the Waterfront is the luxury anchor of the whole village. Both fill up fast and for good reason: location like this is rare and genuinely hard to replicate at a cheaper property 2 km back.
The tradeoff is noise. August nights on this strip get loud until midnight. If you're a light sleeper, ask for a room facing away from the main road when you book.

The furgon to Sarandë costs 200 lek. Use it.
Minibus furgons run between Ksamil Village Center and Sarandë bus station from roughly 7am-9pm in summer. It's 200 lek ($2) each way and takes 20-25 minutes. Sarandë has a better supermarket, a pharmacy, ATMs that actually work reliably, and the ferry terminal for day trips to Corfu. Taxis make the same trip for 1,000-1,500 lek. Do the math and take the furgon.
Ask your hotel about which beach is quietest that day
Ksamil has 4-5 accessible beach spots within walking distance: the main Ksamil Beach, Freddo Beach, Mirror Beach (Plazhi i Pasqyrave), and the coves around Southern Ksamil.
