Brazzaville in 2 days: what to see and what to skip
Day 1: Walk the Plateau district along the Congo River. Start at the Basilique Sainte-Anne (striking green-roofed cathedral). Walk down to the riverfront for views of Kinshasa across the water. Lunch at Mami Wata ($12 grilled fish with river views). Afternoon at the Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza Memorial.
Day 2: Head to Bacongo for Sapeur culture. Sunday is best when the sharp dressers parade near the market. Visit the Poto-Poto School of Painting (Congo's most famous art movement) near the center. Evening drinks at Le Meridien rooftop if it is open, or at any of the bars along Avenue de la Paix.
Skip the taxi rides to distant neighborhoods unless you have a specific reason. Brazzaville's traffic is terrible and most attractions cluster in a 3 km radius around Plateau. The National Museum is small but worth 30 minutes if you are nearby. The zoo is depressing and not worth visiting.

The ferry to Kinshasa requires a visa in advance
You cannot get a DR Congo visa at the river crossing. Apply at the DR Congo embassy on Boulevard Denis Sassou Nguesso in Brazzaville at least 3 days ahead ($35 to $100 depending on nationality). The ferry from DGTS terminal costs $30 to $50 and takes 15 minutes. Service runs 7 AM to 4 PM daily.
Fly between Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire
