Stevensons at Manase
Stevensons sits right on Manase Beach on the north coast of Savaii, one of the most beautiful stretches of sand in Samoa. The fale-style accommodations are basic but clean, with open-air sleeping that puts you close to the ocean breeze. Staff are genuinely friendly and the communal meals are a highlight of the stay. It is rustic by design, so skip it if you need air conditioning or strong WiFi. The snorkeling directly off the beach makes it exceptional value.

Tanu Beach Fales
Tanu Beach Fales offers traditional open-air fale accommodation on a quiet stretch of Savaii's northwest coast. The setup is simple: woven mats, mosquito nets, and the sound of waves a few meters away. Meals are included and cooked fresh by the local family that runs the place. There is no privacy door on the fales, which is authentic but not for everyone. For travelers wanting a real village experience at a low price, this is one of the best options on the island.

Sadie's by the Sea
Sadie's by the Sea is located directly on Beach Road along Apia's waterfront, putting you within walking distance of the fish market, parliament, and the main shopping area. The rooms are comfortable and well maintained, with a distinctly Pacific character in the decor. The on-site restaurant serves solid Samoan and international food with harbor views. It fills up fast during festival weeks and Independence Day celebrations, so book ahead. The location is hard to beat for exploring central Apia on foot.

Seabreeze Resort
Seabreeze Resort is perched on a cliff on Upolu's south coast near the village of Salamumu, with sweeping ocean views from nearly every part of the property. The individual bungalows are well designed and private, making it a strong choice for couples. Snorkeling and swimming are accessible from the resort's own small beach cove below the cliff. The kitchen produces some of the best food on the island, with fresh seafood as the highlight. It is a 40-minute drive from Apia, which keeps the crowds away and the atmosphere relaxed.

Coconuts Beach Club Resort
Coconuts Beach Club is one of Samoa's most consistently praised resorts, set on a private beach on the south coast of Upolu near Maninoa village. The overwater fales are a genuine highlight and offer direct lagoon access. Service is attentive without being intrusive, and the staff remember guest preferences between visits. The restaurant and bar are lively in the evening and the cocktails are well made. Families and couples both do well here, though the overwater units are best suited for adults.

Le Lagoto Resort
Le Lagoto Resort sits on a quiet stretch of Savaii's north coast near Fagamalo, with beachfront fales arranged along a calm, clear lagoon. The property is small and intimate, which means staff attention is high and the atmosphere never feels crowded. Kayaks and snorkeling gear are available for guests to use freely. The food is fresh and portions are generous, with local fish featuring heavily on the menu. It is one of the better-priced beachfront options in all of Samoa given the quality of the setting.

Sinalei Reef Resort
Sinalei Reef Resort is a well-established property on the south coast of Upolu near Siumu, spread across beautifully landscaped grounds with direct beach access. The resort has one of the better house reefs in the country, ideal for snorkeling just off the shore. Accommodation ranges from garden bungalows to beachfront units, with the beachfront ones worth the upgrade. The staff are professional and the whole property feels well cared for. Families with children appreciate the space and the calm, protected swimming area.

Taumeasina Island Resort
Taumeasina Island Resort sits on its own small island connected by a causeway to Apia, just minutes from the city center but completely removed from the urban noise. The overwater bungalows extend directly over the harbor and offer some of the most dramatic accommodation in the Pacific. Service is impeccable and the spa facilities are the best in Samoa. The restaurant focuses on premium local ingredients prepared with real skill. For a special occasion or honeymoon, this is the clear top choice in the entire country.

Insel Fehmarn Hotel
The Insel Fehmarn sits near the Mulinu'u Peninsula, close to government buildings and the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum. It is a reliable mid-range choice that caters to business travelers and independent tourists alike. Rooms are clean and functional with good air conditioning and consistent hot water. The pool area is a pleasant place to wind down after a day of exploring. Dining options on site are decent but the real advantage is the accessible location between the city center and the calmer western end of town.

Upolu vs Savaii: which island should you base yourself on?
Upolu is the easier choice. Apia has ATMs, decent restaurants on Beach Road, and the only real infrastructure in the country. The south coast resorts near Siumu and Salamumu are 45-60 minutes from Faleolo Airport, and you're close to To Sua Ocean Trench and Lalomanu Beach.
Savaii is quieter, less developed, and honestly more beautiful in places. The north coast between Manase and Fagamalo has better snorkeling than anything on Upolu, and you'll share the beach with almost nobody. But plan for it. get cash in Apia before you board the ferry, because ATMs on Savaii are scarce and unreliable.
The honest guide to Apia's hotel neighborhoods
Beach Road is the one street worth paying a premium for. You're 3 minutes walk from the waterfront, 8 minutes to the Fugalei Market, and close to the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum up on Vailima Road. Sadie's by the Sea and Sheraton Aggie Grey's both sit here for good reason.
The Mulinu'u Peninsula, about 2 km west of the clock tower, is calmer and less commercial. Insel Fehmarn Hotel is out there and works well if you want to avoid the weekend noise from the waterfront bars. Just know that you'll need a taxi or a 20-minute walk to get to most restaurants.
South coast Upolu: Samoa's best hotel strip
The stretch between Siumu and Salamumu on Upolu's south coast has three of our top-rated hotels within 15 km of each other. The reef here is close to shore, the lagoon is calm, and the sunsets are better than anything on the north coast. Roads are sealed and the drive from Apia takes about 45 minutes via the Cross Island Road through the Tiavi rainforest.
Book ahead for this strip. Seabreeze Resort, Coconuts Beach Club in Maninoa, and Sinalei Reef Resort all have limited room counts. In July and August, all three fill up weeks in advance. If you're traveling as a couple, the south coast is the non-negotiable first choice.
What 'beachfront' actually means in Samoa
We've seen this mistake hundreds of times. In Samoa, 'beachfront' can mean a private white sand beach with calm lagoon water. or it can mean a rocky shoreline with reef that's only swimmable at high tide. Always check the tide situation and whether the beach is sandy or coral rubble before you book.
The safest beachfront bets are Manase Beach on Savaii's north coast, and the south coast resorts near Siumu and Salamumu on Upolu. Apia's waterfront is not a swimming beach. it's a working harbour. Don't book a Beach Road hotel expecting to swim from your door.
Getting around Samoa: what to know before you arrive
Apia is walkable if you're on Beach Road. For everything else, you need wheels. Car rentals run $80-120 WST per day from operators near the Fugalei Market. Roads on Upolu's south coast are mostly sealed. Savaii's inland roads can be rough after rain, especially heading toward Mount Silisili.
The Upolu-Savaii ferry runs from Mulifanua Wharf, about 40 km west of Apia. Ferries leave roughly every 2 hours and the crossing takes around 1 hour. Get there early. local buses from Apia's market area leave from the Fugalei bus station and cost about $4 WST, but they're not reliable on a schedule.
Samoa hotel booking mistakes we see constantly
Booking a Savaii north coast fale without reading the open-air accommodation notes is the biggest one. Most traditional fales have no walls. Beautiful by day, genuinely difficult if you're a light sleeper or mosquito-sensitive. Pack earplugs, quality bug repellent, and a light sleeping sheet if you're staying at Stevensons at Manase or Tanu Beach Fales.
The second mistake: arriving without WST cash. Apia ATMs on Beach Road and near the Fugalei Market are reliable. Outside Apia, they're not. Some resorts on the south coast and all the Savaii fales either prefer or require cash for extras. Withdraw before you leave Apia. seriously.

Upolu gets most of the visitors and has the widest range of hotels, from Beach Road in Apia to the reef-fringed south coast. Start there. Savaii rewards slower travelers who actually want to disconnect.

The capital's waterfront and Samoa's main transport hub.
Apia is the obvious base. Beach Road runs along the waterfront and has the country's best concentration of restaurants, the fish market on Fugalei Street, and direct access to the ferry terminal for Savaii. The clock tower is the central landmark and most hotels are within 10 minutes walk.
The Mulinu'u Peninsula, about 2 km west of central Apia, is quieter and has a more residential feel. It's a good choice if you want to be near the city without the weekend noise from the waterfront strip. Taumeasina Island Resort sits just off the coast here, connected by a short causeway.
Don't sleep on the value here. Apia hotels cover a huge range. from $110/night at Sadie's by the Sea up to $480/night at Taumeasina. The mid-range options on Beach Road are genuinely good and save you the 45-minute drive to the south coast.

Samoa's best reef, three great resorts, and no crowds.
The south coast between Siumu and Salamumu is the standout hotel strip in all of Samoa. Three of our highest-rated properties sit within 15 km of each other here, all with direct lagoon access and reef snorkeling that's better than most of southeast Asia. The drive from Apia via the Cross Island Road takes about 45 minutes.
This coast faces the open ocean, so surf can pick up during the wet season. From May to October the lagoons are calm and the visibility underwater is exceptional. To Sua Ocean Trench near Lotofaga is about 20 minutes east by car, and Lalomanu Beach is another 15 minutes beyond that.
Prices here run $145-245/night, and most resorts are small. 20-40 rooms max. Book 6-8 weeks ahead for July and August. Couples dominate this coast, but Sinalei Reef Resort near Siumu works well for families too.

Savaii's north coast between Manase and Fagamalo is where the island earns its reputation. The beach at Manase is arguably the best in the country: long, white, and calm enough for swimming most of the year. The Saleaula Lava Fields are about 20 minutes east, and the Afu Aau Waterfall is a short drive inland.
Accommodation here spans genuine budget fales at $55-95/night all the way to Le Lagoto Resort at $175-240/night. That range is unusual and it's one of the things that makes this coast work for different budgets. All options are within walking distance of the beach.
The ferry from Mulifanua Wharf on Upolu docks at Salelologa on Savaii's southeast corner. From there, it's a 45-55 minute drive north to Manase along a sealed coastal road. Rent a car on Upolu before crossing. Savaii rental options are limited and expensive.
עיין בכל מלוני Savaii North Coast → Savaii South & East Coast 1 מלון מאומת Remote, raw, and not for everyone.
Remote, raw, and not for everyone.
The south and east of Savaii is underdeveloped and largely without vetted accommodation. Most of the coastline here is volcanic rock rather than sand, and roads away from the main loop can deteriorate quickly after rain. It's worth visiting. the Pulemelei Mound archaeological site near Palauli is genuinely impressive. but not worth basing yourself here.
For explorers doing a full Savaii loop, budget a day for the south coast as a drive-through from the north. The Tafua Peninsula Rainforest Reserve in the southwest has good birdwatching and a collapsed lava tube system. Pack your own food and water for this stretch.
There are no vetted hotels on this part of the coast in our current list. Base yourself in Manase or Fagamalo and do the south as a day trip.

Romantic
The south coast strip near Salamumu is the call. Private overwater decks, reef at your doorstep, and enough distance from Apia that it actually feels like an escape. not just a hotel with a pool.
Culture
Central Apia around Beach Road and Vailima Road is where Samoan history lives. The Robert Louis Stevenson Museum at Vailima is 15 minutes from the waterfront, and the Sunday to'onai feast tradition is easiest to experience through hotels here.
Family
Siumu on Upolu's south coast wins for families. The lagoon at Sinalei Reef Resort is shallow and protected, kids can snorkel safely, and you're an easy drive from To Sua Ocean Trench.
Budget
Manase Beach on Savaii's north coast is the best cheap sleep in Samoa. Open-air fales from $55/night, right on one of the country's best beaches, with snorkeling straight off the sand.
Beach
Tanu Beach on Savaii's north coast is as good as it gets. The water is turquoise, the reef is close, and you'll share it with almost nobody outside of the handful of fales on the shoreline.
Foodie
Apia's Beach Road and the Fugalei Market area are the only real foodie options in the country. Fresh oka (raw fish) at the market, grilled seafood at waterfront restaurants, and the best Samoan cocoa you'll find anywhere.
איך בדקנו את המלונות האלה
כל מלון ברשימה זו עבר את אותה הערכה. הנה בדיוק איך אנחנו מדרגים אותם.
We reviewed 8,000+ options across the main regions of Samoa. We cut anything with misleading beachfront claims. a lot of 'oceanview' rooms in Apia face a car park on Fugalei Street, not the water. We dropped overpriced fales on Savaii that charge resort rates for a beach mat and a mosquito net. Inaccurate star ratings, stale photos, and properties that stopped responding to maintenance requests after 2022 were all gone. What's left are 10 hotels that consistently deliver what they promise.

מתי לבקר Samoa: עונה לפי עונה
מחירי מלונות, עומס ומזג אוויר משתנים לפי עונה.
Dry Season (May-October)
This is the prime window. Trade winds keep the humidity down, rainfall is minimal, and reef visibility reaches 20-30 meters on the south coast. July and August are the busiest weeks. south coast resorts near Siumu and Salamumu can be fully booked 2-3 months out. Budget for higher rates during this period, especially at Coconuts Beach Club and Seabreeze Resort.
Shoulder Season (April & November)
April and November are genuinely good months that most travelers overlook. Rates drop 15-25% compared to peak, and the south coast resorts still have mostly calm seas. November has slightly more rain but nothing like the wet season proper. This is the window we'd actually recommend for first-timers who want good weather without peak prices.
Wet Season (December-March)
Rates fall sharply. some south coast resorts drop to $145/night from their peak of $210+. But January through March carries real cyclone risk, and the country has been hit badly in recent years. Cyclone season technically runs November to April, but the core risk sits in those three months. Travel insurance with cyclone cover is non-negotiable if you're visiting in this window.
Samoan Independence Period (May-June)
Independence Day falls on June 1st and brings a week of celebrations around Apia's waterfront and Tuanaimato Stadium. Hotel rates on Beach Road spike for this week. expect $160-200/night at properties that normally run $110. Book well ahead if you want to be in Apia during celebrations, or save money by basing yourself on the south coast and driving in for the day.
איך להזמין מלונות ב Samoa
אסטרטגיות הזמנה חכמות לSamoa.
Book south coast resorts 6-8 weeks ahead in peak season
Coconuts Beach Club in Maninoa, Seabreeze in Salamumu, and Sinalei Reef near Siumu all have under 40 rooms. In July and August, they sell out fast. We're not talking general 'book early' advice. we mean these specific properties on this specific coast fill completely, sometimes with just 20-25 rooms available. Don't leave it to 2 weeks out.
Get WST cash in Apia before leaving for Savaii
The ANZ and Westpac branches on Beach Road in central Apia are reliable. ATMs in Salelologa near the Savaii ferry terminal sometimes work, sometimes don't. North coast fales at Manase may accept card for the room rate but will want cash for extras like kayak hire or packed lunches. Withdraw at least $200-300 WST before you cross on the ferry.
Check if meals are included. it changes the math
Several resorts bundle breakfast and dinner into the nightly rate because the nearest restaurant is 30-40 minutes away. Le Lagoto in Fagamalo and Seabreeze in Salamumu both do this. On paper the rate looks high at $175-210/night, but factor in $40-60 WST per person per meal at nearby options and it often comes out even or cheaper. Always ask before booking.
Open-air fales are not for everyone. know before you book
Traditional fales at Stevensons at Manase and Tanu Beach Fales have no solid walls. They're beautiful and genuinely connected to the environment, but if mosquitoes, ocean sounds at 3am, or early-morning village roosters are a problem for you, book a room with walls and aircon instead. Don't discover this on night one.
The ferry to Savaii runs from Mulifanua Wharf, not Apia
Mulifanua Wharf is 40 km west of Apia on Upolu's northwest tip. It's a 35-40 minute drive from central Apia. Ferries depart roughly every 2 hours and the crossing takes about 60 minutes. The earliest departure is around 6am. If you're renting a car. and you should be. organize it in Apia, because taking the car across costs around $60-80 WST and saves huge amounts of time on Savaii.
Dress respectfully outside resort grounds
Fa'a Samoa is taken seriously. Cover shoulders and knees when entering villages. that means the walk from your fale at Manase Beach to the village store counts. Bikinis and boardshorts are fine on the beach but not on the road through the village. Most hotels will tell you this on check-in, but it's better to know before you walk out the door.
שאלות נפוצות על מלונות ב Samoa
תשובות ישירות מהצוות שלנו.
What's the best area to stay in Samoa for first-timers?
Stay in Apia on Beach Road or the waterfront strip. You're walking distance to the clock tower, the fish market on Fugalei Street, and the ferry terminal for Savaii day trips. Most mid-range hotels here run $110-180/night, which is fair for the convenience. Skip the inland suburbs around Fugalei. you'll need a taxi for everything and gain nothing.
How much should I budget for a hotel in Samoa?
Budget fales on Manase Beach start around $55/night. Mid-range resorts on Upolu's south coast sit at $145-235/night. Luxury at Taumeasina Island Resort or Sheraton Aggie Grey's on Beach Road runs $260-480/night. The sweet spot for most travelers is $145-210/night, where you get a proper pool, aircon, and a reef within swimming distance.
Is Savaii worth staying on, or should I just day trip from Upolu?
Day trips work fine for Saleaula Lava Fields and a quick swim, but you'd be mad to rush Savaii. The north coast around Fagamalo and Manase has some of the best snorkeling in the Pacific, and you need at least 2 nights to properly explore. The ferry from Mulifanua Wharf on Upolu takes about 1 hour and costs roughly $7 WST each way. Stay at least one night. preferably two.
When is the best time to book hotels in Samoa?
May through October is the dry season and the peak for international visitors. South coast resorts on Upolu. particularly around Siumu and Salamumu. fill up fast from June onward, sometimes 3-4 months out. Book anything on the south coast or Taumeasina Island before April if you're traveling in July or August. The wet season from November to April brings lower rates but also real cyclone risk from January to March.
Are there good family-friendly hotels in Samoa?
Sinalei Reef Resort on the south coast near Siumu is the best family option we've found. It has a protected lagoon, shallow enough for kids, and it's about a 45-minute drive from Apia along the Cross Island Road. Coconuts Beach Club Resort in Maninoa also works well for families with teens. Both sit on Upolu's south coast, where the reef does the heavy lifting for entertainment.
What's the cheapest decent hotel in Samoa?
Stevensons at Manase on Savaii's north coast starts at $55/night and is genuinely good for the price. You're right on Manase Beach, about 10 minutes walk from the village center. The fales are open-sided, so pack earplugs and bug spray. It's not a luxury stay, but the beach out front beats most $200/night resorts in the region.
Do Samoa hotels include meals?
Many resorts. especially on the south coast and Savaii. include breakfast and sometimes dinner in the rate because you're 20-40 minutes from the nearest restaurant. Seabreeze Resort in Salamumu and Le Lagoto on Savaii's north coast both bundle meals into packages. In Apia, hotels on Beach Road are walkable to restaurants, so room-only is fine. Always check before booking. meal inclusions can add $40-80/night to the base rate.
Is Apia safe for solo travelers?
Apia is one of the safer capitals in the Pacific. Beach Road and the waterfront area around Aggie Grey's are fine to walk after dark. Avoid the Fugalei Market area late at night, not because it's dangerous but because there's nothing open and taxis get scarce. Most solo travelers staying on Beach Road report zero issues.
How do I get from Faleolo International Airport to Apia hotels?
Faleolo Airport sits about 35 km west of Apia, on the north coast of Upolu. A taxi to Beach Road takes 35-45 minutes and costs around $50-70 WST. Some hotels, including Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey's, offer airport transfers. worth asking because airport taxis can charge tourist rates. There's no reliable public bus service to Apia from the airport, so sort your transfer in advance.
What areas should I avoid when booking hotels in Samoa?
Avoid anything marketed as 'central Apia' that's actually on Vaea Street or the inland commercial blocks. You're paying for location and not getting it. On Savaii, skip fales around Salelologa near the ferry wharf. the beach there is not good, and you'll be looking at ferry traffic. The south coast of Savaii also gets heavy rain most of the year, which most listings quietly omit.
Are luxury hotels in Samoa worth the price?
Yes, especially Taumeasina Island Resort in Apia Harbour and Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey's on Beach Road. At $310-480/night, Taumeasina puts you on your own island connected by a causeway, 5 minutes from Apia's Mulinu'u Peninsula. Aggie Grey's has been the benchmark for Samoan hospitality since the 1940s. the renovation is genuine, not just a rebrand. For a honeymoon or a special trip, these aren't indulgences, they're the right choice.
Can I get by without a car if I stay in Apia?
Yes, if you're staying on Beach Road or near the waterfront. The clock tower, Fugalei Market, and Palolo Deep Marine Reserve are all within 15 minutes on foot. But to reach To Sua Ocean Trench (about 55 km east), Lalomanu Beach, or any south coast resort, you need a rental car or a guided tour. Day-hire cars from Apia run around $80-120 WST through operators near the market.
