The Palm Beach Strip along J.E. Irausquin Boulevard is convenient but noisy past 10pm. You get easy access to water sports, supermarkets like Ling and Sons, and a dozen restaurants. but light sleepers should request a room facing away from the road.
Eagle Beach, about 3 km south of the Strip, is a completely different vibe. Quieter, wider beach, fewer vendors, and the hotels there tend to attract couples over party crowds. If calm mornings and empty sand matter to you, start your search there, not on the Strip.
Budget stays: Noord is fine, but know what you're getting
Noord is Aruba's residential neighborhood sitting between the airport road and the beachfront hotels. Aruba Harmony Apartments and Coconut Inn both sit here, priced at $55-99/night. You're not on the beach. you're a 15-20 minute walk from Malmok Beach and about the same from the Palm Beach Strip.
Rent a car or a scooter if you're staying in Noord. The Arubus runs along the main road but not frequently enough to be reliable for day trips. That said, the California Lighthouse is only 10 minutes by car, and Aruba Aloe Factory is right in the neighborhood. Noord earns its place for budget travelers who come to explore, not just lie on the beach.
Luxury in Aruba: why Bucuti and Tara justifies the price
Bucuti and Tara Beach Resort at Eagle Beach runs $280-420/night and holds a 9.4 rating for good reason. It's adults-only, carbon-neutral certified, and sits directly on what major review platforms has repeatedly ranked the best beach in the Caribbean. The beach chairs are never crammed together, staff ratios are high, and the on-site restaurant Screaming Eagle is genuinely worth eating at.
The Ritz-Carlton on the Palm Beach Strip runs $350-600/night and delivers what you'd expect from the brand: a huge pool, multiple restaurants, and impeccable service. But the beach here is shared with other resorts and busier. If beach quality is your top priority, Bucuti wins. If you want the full resort campus experience with more amenities, the Ritz-Carlton delivers that.
When to book: Aruba's price calendar explained
Aruba's peak season runs December through April. Hotel prices on the Palm Beach Strip jump to $175-245/night for mid-range rooms during this window. February is particularly brutal. Carnival draws large crowds to Oranjestad and San Nicolas, and any hotel within 20 km fills up weeks in advance. Book January-April stays at least 3 months ahead.
May through August is the sweet spot: prices drop 15-25%, the trade winds are still strong, and the beaches are noticeably less crowded. September and October are cheapest of all. $55-130/night across most categories. but some smaller hotels close for refurbishment. Check directly with the hotel before booking in those months.
What to do within walking distance of your hotel
If you're on the Palm Beach Strip, you're within a 5-minute walk of Paseo Herencia mall for evenings out, and 10 minutes from the Aruba Butterfly Farm on J.E. Irausquin Boulevard. Most water sports operators. snorkeling, kitesurfing, parasailing. set up directly on the beach in front of the larger resorts. No need to book far in advance for most of them.
Eagle Beach hotels put you 15 minutes' walk from the Green Bar, one of the best sundowner spots on the island, and about 20 minutes by car from Arikok National Park. Manchebo Beach is flanked by the Pega Pega restaurant strip heading north. good local food without Strip-level prices. Don't just sit at your hotel restaurant the whole trip.
Common mistakes we see Palm Beach first-timers make
Booking a hotel described as 'steps from the beach' without checking a map. We've seen this mistake hundreds of times. In Noord especially, 'near the beach' can mean a 20-minute walk in 30°C heat. Always cross-reference the hotel address against Google Maps before you confirm.
Skipping travel insurance because 'Aruba is safe.' It is safe, but flight disruptions through Miami or Bogotá connections are common, and medical evacuation from the island runs $15,000+. Also: don't exchange currency at the airport. The Florin is pegged at 1.79 to the USD and most places accept dollars. just use ATMs at Ling and Sons supermarket for cash if you need it.
