Emerald Bay: for when you want a proper resort
Emerald Bay is 20 minutes north of George Town on Queen's Highway, and it operates almost as its own world. The beach here is genuinely spectacular. a long crescent of shallow turquoise water that puts most Caribbean resorts to shame.
Grand Isle Resort and Spa ($199-249/night, rated 9.0) is the accessible luxury option. The Four Seasons sits right next door and takes it several levels higher. If you're driving between Emerald Bay and George Town for dinner, budget $30-40 for a round-trip taxi or just rent a car at the airport.
The private cays: worth it or just expensive?
Fowl Cay Resort sits on its own private island with rates starting at $1,450/night. That sounds extreme until you realize it includes a boat, a dedicated reef, and a level of privacy that no land-based resort can match. It's not for everyone. but for honeymoons or a once-in-a-decade trip, it's the real deal.
Getting there requires a boat transfer, usually arranged from Staniel Cay. Plan at least 3 nights minimum to justify the travel time. And yes, Thunderball Grotto. used in two James Bond films. is a 10-minute boat ride from Staniel Cay. Don't skip it.
How to book Exuma hotels without getting burned
The biggest mistake we see? Booking a 'beachfront' property based on aerial photos that are actually of Stocking Island, not the hotel grounds. Read reviews that specifically mention whether you can walk to the water. Several properties near the southern part of George Town are a 10-minute drive from any swimmable beach.
April is regatta month and rates spike hard. $150-250/night rooms at Regatta Point jump to $200-350+. Book in December for April travel if you want to be near Elizabeth Harbour during the races. For value, target late May through June: prices drop, the weather holds, and the island is noticeably quieter.
Budget travel in Exuma: it's possible, just limited
There are only 2 genuinely budget options on our vetted list. Exuma Palms Hotel in Farmer's Hill starts at $55/night and is clean and honest. Marshall's Guesthouse in downtown George Town runs $75-99/night and puts you walking distance of the harbour and the best local food spots on Queen's Highway.
Budget travel here means accepting that you'll need a car to explore. Car rentals from Exuma International Airport run $60-80/day. Split between two people, that's manageable. There's no bus system worth relying on, so factor that cost in when you're comparing accommodation prices.
Romantic stays in Exuma: two very different options

Rokers Point is quieter than George Town, more residential, and the kind of place where you actually disconnect. It's about 5 minutes drive from the heart of George Town.
Fowl Cay Resort is the other end of the spectrum. Private island, private beach, private boat. If the budget allows even for a few nights, it's hard to argue against it for a honeymoon. Both work. it just depends whether your romance looks like a candlelit beach villa or a stunning private reef at sunset.
