Most visitors should stay in the Old Town, and we stand by that. You're 5 minutes walk from the Pliva Waterfall, 8 minutes up to the fortress gate on Ul. Svetog Luke, and the catacombs are right there. The streets are cobbled, the buildings are medieval, and the whole thing feels exactly like you hoped Bosnia would look.
Budget rooms start at $45/night at Hostel Nina, and the top end hits around $230 at Hotel Jajce Palace. That spread means almost every traveler can make this neighborhood work. One tip: rooms facing the inner courtyard at Pansion Stari Grad are quieter than street-facing ones.
Pliva Lakes: Beautiful, But Know What You're Signing Up For
The Pliva Lakes area is genuinely stunning. The Little Water Mill on the lower Pliva Lake is one of the most photographed spots in Bosnia, and waking up here is a different experience entirely from the Old Town. You're about 3km from the waterfall, which means you need a car or a taxi for most sightseeing.
Pansion Jezero starts at $120/night and is right on the lake shore. Villa Pliva Resort at the upper lake goes up to $380/night and earns every convertible mark of it. If you're here to relax and hike rather than do a fortress-and-catacombs marathon, this is genuinely the better choice.
Fortress View Luxury Suites: Jajce's Best Hotel, Full Stop
Our top-rated pick sits inside the Old Town Fortification Quarter, which is a very specific part of town most visitors walk past without realizing you can stay there. The suites look directly onto the fortress walls and out over the valley. It scores 9.3. the highest in our lineup. and rates run $290-420/night.
Book the upper-floor suite if it's available. Sunset from that position, with the Pliva River below and the fortress lit up, is the kind of thing people fly to Jajce for. Don't book a standard room hoping to upgrade on arrival. It rarely works and they fill up weeks ahead.
What to Skip: The Main Road Trap
There's a cluster of cheap guesthouses near the bus station on Ul. Kralja Tvrtka I that market themselves as 'convenient' for arrival. They're not convenient for anything else. You're 20+ minutes walk from the waterfall, the road noise starts early, and you'll spend more on taxis than you saved on the room.
We've seen this mistake hundreds of times. The price difference between these spots and a proper Old Town guesthouse is $15-25/night. It's not worth it. Pansion Stari Grad at $60-90/night in the Old Town is more convenient in every way that matters.

Summer brings day-tripper buses from Sarajevo and Banja Luka, and the waterfall area gets genuinely crowded by mid-morning in July and August. Hotel prices spike 30-40% across all categories. If you're set on summer, book Old Town properties 6-8 weeks out.
May and September are sweet spots. Temperatures sit at 16-22°C, crowds thin out after the school holiday rush, and mid-range hotels like Hotel Pod Gradom drop $20-30/night below peak rates. Autumn colors around the Pliva Lakes in October are worth a separate trip entirely.
The Riverside and Town Park: Good for Specific Traveler Types
Apartments and Hotel Pelivan on the Riverside is genuinely romantic. The Pliva River runs right past, the building has character, and at $150-200/night with an 8.7 rating it punches above its price. It's about 10 minutes walk to the waterfall viewpoint. Good for couples who don't need to be inside the Old Town walls.
Hotel Park Jajce in the Town Park Area on Ul. Harmani works well for families with kids. There's more room, the park grounds give children somewhere to run, and you're not navigating steep cobblestone streets with a stroller. It's 12-15 minutes walk to the main sights, which is manageable.

This is the core of Jajce and the reason most people visit. Ul. Svetog Luke cuts through the heart of it, the fortress gate is 8 minutes uphill, and the Pliva Waterfall is 5 minutes down. Staying here means you can walk to everything that matters.
You've got three solid picks across a wide price range. Hostel Nina brings it in at $45-75/night. Pansion Stari Grad steps it up at $60-90/night. Hotel Jajce Palace in the Upper Old Town is the crown at $175-230/night with a 9.0 rating. All three are within 600 meters of each other.
One real consideration: the cobbled streets are steep. If you have mobility issues or heavy luggage, factor that in. There's no lift up from the lower waterfall area to the upper Old Town. it's all stairs and stone paths.

Hotel Pod Gradom is excellent value for what it is. You're right at the base of the fortress walls, about 7 minutes walk to the waterfall viewing platform and 4 minutes up to the main fortress gate. Fortress View Luxury Suites goes further: the rooms face directly onto the medieval fortifications and the views down the Pliva River valley are legitimately jaw-dropping.
