Moroni proper handles culture, food, and history. The northern coast toward Mitsamiouli handles beach, snorkeling, and full-on resort life at Le Galawa Beach Hotel on Galawa Beach. These are genuinely different trips. don't try to combine them on a 3-night stay, you'll spend half your time in a taxi on Route Nationale 1.
For stays of 5 nights or more, split it: 2 nights in Centre-ville or Corniche to get your bearings, then head north. Foumbouni Beach Hotel to the south is another option if you want coastal quiet without the 90-minute drive. It's 80 km down the coast and the road is decent but slow.

Badjanani is the neighborhood that most visitors overlook and immediately love once they find it. The medina alleyways are authentic, the tea houses are cheap, and Pension Al-Amal gives you a base right inside it. It's 8 minutes walk from Place de France and about 5 minutes from the seafront.
Hamramba and Coulée are further from the old medina but offer a more modern, quieter atmosphere. Retaj Moroni in Hamramba targets business travelers and delivers on it. Golden Tulip in Coulée is Moroni's best full-service hotel and worth every franc if your budget allows.

Itsandra Beach Annex is the budget sibling, starting at $45/night. It shares the same stretch of coast and you get the same Indian Ocean views. Expect fewer amenities, smaller rooms, and occasional hot water quirks. For what you pay, it punches well above its weight.
The area around Itsandra village has a couple of small restaurants and a Friday market worth exploring. You're 6 km from Marché de Volo Volo and about 20-25 minutes on foot from Centre-ville if you're up for a coastal walk along the road. Most guests just grab a shared taxi-brousse heading south for $1.

This is a couples destination more than anything else. There are no clubs, limited local restaurants, and the village of Foumbouni is small and traditional. If you're after that, perfect. If you need to be connected to Moroni for work or multiple day trips, it's too far.
