Don't fall for hotels near the main train station on Nádražní. the area looks fine on Google Maps and feels flat in person. We've seen this mistake hundreds of times. Pay slightly more and land yourself in the actual centre.
Brno on a budget: what's actually worth it
Hostel Mitte in the City Centre at $45-75/night is the best budget option we've vetted. The location near Česká and the tram network means you're not sacrificing access for price. Hotel Slavia in Staré Brno is another honest option at $70-95/night with more space than most budget hotels in the centre.
Eat at the market stalls on Zelný trh for lunch. a proper meal costs under 150 CZK. Skip the tourist-facing restaurants on the square's south side and walk one block to Stará Radnice for better food at half the price.
Business travel in Brno: the practical guide
If your meetings are at the Brno Exhibition Centre on Výstaviště in Pisárky, Hotel International Brno is 5 minutes away on foot. For the modern tech and business park south of the centre near AZ Tower on Heršpická, Courtyard by Marriott in Štýřice is the logical base. Best Western Omega in Žabovřesky covers the middle ground.
Book 8-10 weeks ahead if any major Výstaviště trade fair overlaps your trip. The Engineering Fair in October and the International Building Fair in April push city-wide hotel rates up 40-60%. The BVV website publishes dates a year in advance.
Architecture lovers: Brno is the real deal
Brno has one of the most concentrated collections of functionalist and modernist buildings in Central Europe. Villa Tugendhat on Černopolní. a UNESCO-listed Mies van der Rohe masterpiece. is the headline, but Hotel Avion on Česká is an Adolf Loos collaboration you can actually sleep in. Book it.
The Tugendhat tour requires advance booking and fills up weeks out; go to the official site and reserve before you even sort out your flight. While you're in the area, the streets around Úvoz and Mozartova are lined with 1920s-1930s villas that most visitors walk straight past.
When to visit Brno: the honest seasonal breakdown
May and June are the sweet spot. Temperatures sit at 15-22°C, the city is busy but not overrun, and hotel prices are reasonable before the peak summer jump. The Brno Design Week in May brings extra buzz to the City Centre without the chaos of August's Grand Prix week.
August's MotoGP and Superbike rounds at the Brno Circuit turn the whole city upside down for a long weekend. Hotel prices triple. Trams are packed. If you're not there for the racing, avoid those specific dates entirely. The circuit is 10 km from the City Centre on the road to Ostrava.
Brno's lesser-known neighbourhoods worth knowing
Staré Brno, just southwest of the centre around Mendlovo náměstí, is where Gregor Mendel did his pea plant genetics research at the Augustinian Abbey. It's quieter than the City Centre, authentically residential, and Hotel Slavia is about as local as you'll feel in the city. The No. 1 tram connects it to the centre in under 10 minutes.
Královo Pole in the north is a completely different Brno. a leafy district with the Technická university campus, decent local bars on Skácelova, and almost zero tourists. There are no vetted hotels there yet, but it's worth knowing for dinner. Tram No. 12 gets you there from Freedom Square in 15 minutes.

City Centre is the obvious choice and for good reason. Freedom Square (Náměstí Svobody), Zelný trh, and the Old Town Hall are all within a compact, walkable area. Špilberk Castle is 10 minutes uphill on foot, the Cathedral on Petrov is 8 minutes south.
The options here cover the full price spectrum. Hostel Mitte brings it in at $45-75/night. Hotel Avion and Grandezza sit in the $105-180 range. Andel's and Passage push into genuine luxury at $255-420/night. You won't find that kind of spread in any other Brno neighbourhood.
Noise is the one genuine trade-off. Jakubské náměstí and Česká street get loud after midnight on weekends. Ask for a courtyard-facing room at any City Centre property. every hotel here has them and it changes the experience completely.

The main trade-off is that you're 12-15 minutes walk from Zelný trh and the main sights. That's not a problem for most people. but if you only have one night and want everything on your doorstep, stay in the City Centre instead.

Pisárky is southwest of the City Centre, best known for the Brno Exhibition Centre (Výstaviště BVV) and the Brno Reservoir (Brněnská přehrada). Hotel International Brno is the anchor here. a mid-century high-rise that makes sense if your trip involves the exhibition grounds or you want easy access to the waterfront.
The tram No. 1 runs straight from Pisárky through the City Centre and takes about 18-20 minutes to Zelný trh. That's fine for a few days, less ideal if you're doing a lot of sightseeing. The neighbourhood itself is pleasant and green, with the reservoir park a few minutes walk.

Both areas cater primarily to business travellers and people attending events or conferences. Prices sit at $110-260/night, which is fair value given the parking, facilities, and quiet surroundings. Neither neighbourhood has a great restaurant scene. you'll be taking the tram for dinner.
Don't rule them out for leisure either, especially if the City Centre hotels are booked out. A tram ride away from Freedom Square is genuinely not a hardship in a city this size.
