The Ezulwini Valley is 10-15km south of the city, which sounds close until you've hit afternoon traffic on the MR3 heading back. Base yourself there if you're staying 4+ nights and culture or wildlife is the priority. The Glen Hotel and Mantenga Lodge sit right on the valley road, so you're walking to cultural villages and nature reserves rather than driving to them.
How to get around Mbabane without a car
Kombis (minibus taxis) cover most major routes for $0.50-1 per trip and run from the main rank near Swazi Plaza until about 6pm. After that, private taxis are your only option. budget $3-8 per trip within the city, and $10-15 to reach Ezulwini Valley hotels from Dalriach.
Uber doesn't operate in Mbabane. A few local taxi apps exist but reliability is inconsistent. Your hotel's front desk can usually call a trusted driver. Mountain Inn in Dalriach and Kapola in Woodlands both keep a short list of reliable contacts for guests.

If you're staying in the Ezulwini Valley, the craft market strip near Mantenga has a few decent lunch spots. The restaurant at Mantenga Lodge is actually one of the better kitchens in the valley. but if you want something different, drive 5 minutes toward Lobamba where roadside stands sell grilled chicken and pap from late afternoon until dark.
What to know about hotel standards in Mbabane
Hot water reliability is a real issue in older guesthouses. specifically in lower Msunduza and parts of Mahwalala. Wi-Fi quality in City Centre hotels has improved significantly since 2022, with MTN and Eswatini Mobile towers covering most of Dalriach and Woodlands well. The Ezulwini Valley can be patchier. Beyond that, the gap between $100 and $130 is where Mbabane really delivers: Takheni Guesthouse and Mountain Inn feel considerably more polished than their price suggests.
At $290-420/night, Royal Swazi Spa Hotel is a genuine luxury product. Full spa, tennis courts, multiple restaurants, and a pool overlooking the Ezulwini Valley. It's not overpriced for what you get. it's just a different category entirely. If you're celebrating something, don't talk yourself out of it by comparing it to the mid-range tier.

Dalriach sits on a ridge above the city centre with Mountain Inn right on the hillside. you're 10 minutes walk from Swazi Plaza and 15 from the main market on Gwamile Street. City Centre proper is noisier and more commercial, fine for a night but not where you want a week.
Mountain Inn is the standout here: good food, reliable Wi-Fi, and staff who actually know the city. The views from the upper rooms toward the Dalriach ridgeline are genuinely excellent. Budget travellers should look at Legends Backpackers just below in City Centre. basic but well-run and right on the Allister Miller Street corridor.
Taxis from Dalriach to the Ezulwini Valley cost $10-15. The kombi rank at Swazi Plaza connects you to most local routes for under $1. This region gives you the city without sacrificing comfort.

Mhlambanyatsi is a different proposition entirely: it's a small forestry town about 14km southwest of Mbabane, and Foresters Arms Hotel sits in the middle of a pine plantation.
