How to get to Porvoo from Helsinki (all your options)
The Kamppi-Porvoo express bus is the standard move. It departs from Kamppi terminal in central Helsinki roughly every 30 minutes during the day, costs about €10-14 each way, and drops you at Porvoo bus station on Linja-autoasema in 50 minutes. From there, the Old Town is a 10-minute walk west.
Driving the E18 is 50km and takes 45-55 minutes, which is fine outside Helsinki rush hour (avoid 4pm-6pm on Fridays heading east). Parking in the Old Town is limited. use the Aleksanterinkatu car park and walk in. In summer, a handful of boat trips also run from Helsinki's South Harbour to Porvoo along the coast, taking around 3 hours but worth it once.

The Taidetehdas Arts District is about 12 minutes walk from the Old Town red warehouses. not far, and the route along the river is pleasant. Budget accommodation around the bus terminal area exists but we'd skip it. Paying $72/night to wake up near the arts factory and walk a scenic 12 minutes beats paying $60/night to wake up next to a petrol station.
Porvoo in summer: what to book and when
June through August is when Porvoo fills up fast. Helsinki families, European tourists, and a big chunk of Finnish domestic travel all converge on the same red warehouses. Hotel Sparre, Pariisin Ville, and the Riverside Hotel all book out 6-8 weeks ahead for July weekends. Don't wait.
The Porvoo Medieval Market usually runs in late July near the Old Town, which spikes prices by 15-20% for that specific weekend. If your dates are flexible, the last week of August is genuinely the best trade-off: warm enough for river terraces on Jokikatu, crowds thinning out, and prices starting to soften. You'll still need to book 3-4 weeks ahead for the good Old Town spots.

Porvoo punches above its size in the luxury category.
