Hotel Le Mandarin in City Center is the go-to for business travelers. it's got reliable WiFi, meeting facilities, and it's 5 minutes walk from the main business district around Rue du Général de Gaulle and the port offices. It's also the kind of place where you can check in at midnight after a delayed flight without drama. Rates run $120-175/night.
Taxis from Faa'a Airport to City Center cost around 2,000-2,500 XPF ($18-22) and the drive is 20-25 minutes outside rush hour. During morning peak traffic on Route 1 through Faaa, that can stretch to 45 minutes. Budget accordingly if you've got an early meeting.
Using Papeete as a base: island-hopping smart
Papeete is a genuine hub. Moorea is 30 minutes by ferry from the terminal on Boulevard Pomare. ferries run by Aremiti and Terevau depart roughly every hour during the day. Bora Bora is a 50-minute flight from Faa'a Airport. Huahine and Raiatea are served by Air Tahiti several times daily.

What to skip in Papeete (honest advice)
Don't book anything on the Route 1 industrial stretch between Fare Ute and the port unless price is the only thing you care about. Several overpriced hotels near the Papeete waterfront market front-load their listings with lagoon photos. you're not getting a lagoon view from a city hotel on Boulevard Pomare. Read what's actually in the room, not what's in the neighborhood.
Skip any hotel that uses 'beachfront Tahiti' in its name but is located inside the city. Papeete city itself has no swimmable beach. the closest is a 20-minute drive west toward Punaauia or east toward Point Venus in Mahina. If the beach matters to you, pay for Moorea or go to Le Meridien in Paea. Compromising on this is the most common mistake we see.

Hotel Tiare Tahiti is the best value in this zone at $110-160/night. Hotel Le Mandarin at $120-175/night is the smartest business pick. Hotel Matavai at $140-200/night leads on overall quality and guest satisfaction with a rating of 8.1. You've got real options at real price points.
The downside: noise. Boulevard Pomare and the streets around Rue Anne-Marie Javouhey get loud until well past midnight, especially on weekends. Ask for a rear-facing room at any City Center hotel and you'll sleep much better.
