Book somewhere on Batumi Boulevard for your first night and walk it end to end before you do anything else. The stretch between Europe Square and the Alphabet Tower takes about 25 minutes at a leisurely pace and tells you everything about how the city is laid out.
Old Town is 12 minutes walk west from the central Boulevard. Piazza Square is the obvious landmark, but duck into the side streets around Zubalashvili Street for the real architecture. Most visitors miss this entirely because they stick to the main drag.
How to pick the right Batumi neighborhood
Batumi Boulevard suits people who want beach access, nightlife, and walkability without thinking too hard. Old Town suits people who want atmosphere and don't mind paying a bit more for taxis to the beach. New Boulevard, where Hotel Art Tower sits, is quieter and more local-feeling, roughly 15 minutes walk from central Piazza Square.
Avoid booking anything labeled 'Batumi Center' that doesn't specify which part. The area around the central bus station and Batumi Train Station on Mayakovsky Street is loud, congested, and not where you want to wake up. The price savings aren't worth it.
Getting around Batumi without a car
Batumi is genuinely walkable between Old Town and the Boulevard. The full length of the Boulevard from the Old Port to the Alphabet Tower is about 3.5 km. 45 minutes on foot. For anything further, Bolt taxis are reliable and rarely cost more than 10-15 GEL within the city.
There's a local bus network but the route numbering confuses even locals. Bus 1 runs a useful north-south corridor along the seafront and costs 0.80 GEL. For the Botanical Garden in Mtsvane Kontskhi, 9 km north of central Batumi, take a taxi for around 20-25 GEL rather than navigating the bus.
Batumi hotel prices: what to actually expect
Budget options start around $45-70/night in Old Town. Mid-range on the Boulevard runs $110-190/night and that's genuinely good value given the location. Luxury here means Sheraton or Radisson Blu at $270-500/night, and both are priced against international competition, not local standards. They earn it.
Peak summer prices (July-August) are typically 40-60% higher than the same room in May or October. If your travel dates are flexible, the late May window before Georgian school holidays is the best deal in the calendar.
What to eat and drink near your hotel
The restaurant strip along Batumi Boulevard itself is heavily touristic and overpriced. Walk one block inland to streets like Gorgiladze or Pushkin for local khinkali spots where a plate of 10 dumplings costs 8-12 GEL. The Adjarian wine bars around Piazza Square are legitimately good and not tourist traps.
For breakfast, any local bakery selling Adjarian khachapuri (the boat-shaped egg-and-cheese bread) will cost you 6-10 GEL and outperform any hotel buffet. Batumi's proximity to Turkey means the café culture leans strong. good espresso is easy to find on Chavchavadze Street.
Batumi in summer vs. shoulder season
July and August are chaotic. The Boulevard is packed, hotel prices spike, and the beach near central Batumi gets genuinely overcrowded. If you want Black Sea swimming without the madness, the stretch of beach near Orbi City to the north is less packed, and the water quality is similar.
May and September are the best months we'd recommend to anyone without school-age kids. Temperatures sit at 20-25°C, the sea is swimmable from late May onward, and you'll find the same hotels running $80-120/night cheaper. The Batumi Jazz Festival typically runs in June and briefly spikes demand, so book before it's announced.

This is Batumi's main artery. The Boulevard runs from the Old Port area up through Europe Square, past the Ali and Nino statue, all the way north toward the Alphabet Tower.
