Old Town lanes are pedestrian-only in sections. Cars can't reach many guesthouses directly, so you'll walk the last 200-300 meters with luggage. Wear shoes with grip because the cobblestones are genuine 19th century and uneven. The cable car at Rike Park costs 2.5 GEL return and runs daily.

Fabrika Hostel's courtyard has a dozen food and drink vendors including excellent natural wine bars, a ramen spot, and Vietnamese street food. This isn't typical hostel fare. The courtyard runs from 11am to 2am and attracts locals as much as travelers.
Tbilisi Sulfur Bath District and Where to Stay Nearby
Abanotubani is the original reason Tbilisi exists. The natural sulfur springs bubble at 37C and have been used since the 5th century. Public baths charge 3-5 GEL for access. Private rooms with your own pool cost 30-80 GEL/hour. Chreli-Abano on Abo Tbileli Street is the most photogenic bathhouse exterior.
Gtav Maidan is the only hotel inside the bath district itself. It has its own hammam using the same sulfur water. Book the room with a balcony view of the domed bathhouse roofs. The smell of sulfur is faint from the hotel. Mercure Tbilisi Old Town on Gorgasali Square is 3 minutes walk from the baths.
Day Trips from Tbilisi Hotels
Kakheti wine region starts 90 minutes east by car. The Alaverdi Cathedral and Signagi walled town are worth the drive. Most Tbilisi hotels can arrange shared taxis or tours. Kazbegi mountain town is 3 hours north on the Georgian Military Highway. The Gergeti Trinity Church at 2170m elevation is the best day trip from the city.
Mtskheta, Georgia's ancient capital, sits 20 minutes north by marshrutka (minibus). The Svetitskhoveli Cathedral is UNESCO-listed and takes 45 minutes to explore. Combine it with Jvari Monastery on the hill above. Budget a full day for Kazbegi. Half a day covers Mtskheta comfortably.
