Mariam Hotel and Madaba Inn are both solid. Mariam is on the Town Center fringe, Madaba Inn is tucked into the Old Town near the archaeological zone. Both are under $85/night and genuinely well-run. not the kind of budget options you regret booking.
Eat at the local spots on King Talal Street rather than the tourist-facing restaurants near St. George's. A full mezze lunch runs $6-10 per person at the local spots. We've seen travelers blow their savings at the tourist restaurants within walking distance of the church. don't be that person.
The Dead Sea add-on: how to plan it right
Sweimeh on the Dead Sea shore is 46 km from central Madaba. about 45 minutes by car. Kempinski Hotel Ishtar is the benchmark here. It's expensive at $350-580/night, but the private Dead Sea beach, multiple pools, and spa are genuinely world-class. This is a splurge worth planning for.
Most visitors do 1-2 nights at the Dead Sea before or after Madaba. Don't try to do both in one day. the drive is easy but you'll be exhausted. Book Kempinski directly for the best rates and ask about their package deals, which sometimes bundle spa credits at no extra cost.
Mount Nebo and the Ma'In Valley: staying outside Madaba city
Mount Nebo View Hotel sits on the Faysaliyya road toward Mount Nebo, about 8 km from central Madaba. At $175-235/night it's our top-rated pick and the views over the Jordan Valley toward the Dead Sea are genuinely stunning at sunrise. Worth the cab ride.
The Evason Ma'In is a completely different experience. thermal springs, waterfalls, and a valley setting that feels nothing like Madaba city. At $280-420/night it's the luxury pick for the wider region. Go for 2 nights minimum. One night isn't enough to use everything properly.
Mosaic sites and how your hotel location affects your visit
Madaba is called the City of Mosaics for a reason. St. George's Church has the famous 6th-century map of Jerusalem, the Burnt Palace has intricate floor panels, and the Church of the Apostles is 12 minutes from the town center on foot.
