City Center, specifically the Naujamiesčio district around H. Manto gatvė, is quieter and more practical if you're driving or here for work. The Radisson Blu sits here and it shows: corporate, polished, easy access to the ring road. But you'll pay $130-185/night for the privilege of being 15 minutes walk from the interesting parts of the city.

The Curonian Spit is a UNESCO World Heritage site, a 98 km sandbar between the Baltic Sea and the Curonian Lagoon. It's genuinely one of the most unusual landscapes in Europe. But it's also a one-road peninsula with limited dining options and no nightlife to speak of, so set expectations accordingly.
Nida is the best base on the spit, with a proper village square, a few good restaurants near Naglių gatvė, and the Parnidis Dune 20 minutes walk from the center. Preila is smaller and quieter, better for families. Don't bother staying in Juodkrantė unless you specifically want the Hill of Witches at sunrise with nobody else around.
Klaipeda budget travel: what $45-85/night actually gets you
At the lower end, Litinterp Klaipeda Guest House on Puodžių gatvė delivers a clean, well-located room in Old Town for $45-70/night. It's a guesthouse, not a hotel, so think simple furnishings and shared spaces rather than a lobby bar. But you're 8 minutes from Theatre Square on foot, which at that price is hard to argue with.
Klaipeda Travellers Hostel sits at $55-85/night, slightly higher, and works best for solo travelers who want a social vibe. Both are in Old Town, which means you're not sacrificing location for price. Spend what you save on dinner at Senoji Hansa on Kurpių gatvė.
When to book: Klaipeda's seasonal price swings
July is the peak month, full stop. The Sea Festival at the end of July turns Old Town into a party, and rooms within 1 km of the Danes River waterfront book out weeks in advance at 40-60% above normal rates. If you want Old Town in summer, commit to a booking by May.
May, June, and September are the sweet spot. Temperatures are 15-20°C, crowds are manageable, and hotel prices are 20-30% below July peak. October through March is genuinely quiet, with budget rooms dropping to $40-60/night, but several smaller guesthouses close for the season. Call ahead.
Palanga: the beach resort alternative
Palanga is 30 km north of Klaipeda on the E272 and it's a different world. It's Lithuania's main beach resort, packed in summer with Lithuanian families and packed differently from Klaipeda. J. Basanavičiaus gatvė, the main pedestrian strip, has cafes, amber shops, and a bridge pier stretching into the Baltic.
Grand Palanga Hotel and Spa sits in the Seaside Resort District and runs $280-420/night. That's not a typo. The spa is serious, the beach access is direct, and the property is large enough to feel like a genuine resort. It's the right choice if you want the coastal experience without the Curonian Spit logistics.
Transport and getting around: the practical stuff
Within Klaipeda's Old Town, you don't need a car. The entire district is under 1 km across and most attractions are 5-15 minutes on foot. City buses run on the main routes including Taikos prospektas and H. Manto gatvė, and a single ticket costs around €1. Taxis and ride apps like Bolt cover the city for €4-8 per short trip.
For the Curonian Spit, the car ferry from the New Ferry Terminal on Nemuno gatvė is the main option if you're driving. The passenger ferry from the Old Terminal is faster for foot passengers at 5 minutes. If you're heading to Nida without a car, there are minibus connections from the central bus terminal on Butkų Juzės gatvė running in summer.

The best streets for atmosphere are Kurpių gatvė and Žvejų gatvė near the waterfront. Restaurant and bar density is high, noise on weekends is real, and parking requires a paid garage. If you're driving, factor that in.
Avoid the blocks east of Liepų gatvė toward the bus station area. It's technically still Old Town on a map but the character drops off fast. Stick to the grid between the river and Tiltų gatvė.
