Southwest Monsoon (May-August)
Prices drop 30-50% across the board. Rain comes in afternoon bursts, usually clearing within an hour. Rougher seas mean some boat trips get cancelled. Surfing picks up on the eastern breaks. Maafushi guesthouses dip to $50/night.
Manta Season (September-November)
Manta rays gather at Guraidhoo Channel from September through November. Whale shark sightings increase on the western side of the atoll. Still technically monsoon season so expect some rain, but the marine life makes it worthwhile for divers.
Holiday Season (December)
Christmas and New Year drive prices to annual highs. Resorts charge peak rates and require minimum stays of 5-7 nights. Even Maafushi guesthouses jump to $90-120/night. Book by September for December stays. Weather is excellent though.
