First time in Ibiza: where to base yourself
Ibiza Town is the right answer for most first-timers. You're 8 minutes walk from Dalt Vila, the port is right there, and La Marina neighbourhood has the best restaurant density on the island. You can be on a beach (Figueretas is a 15-minute walk) without committing to a beach-resort area.
Avoid booking in Playa d'en Bossa unless you specifically want proximity to the big clubs. It looks appealing on a map but the area between Hard Rock Hotel and the beach strip is heavily commercialised. First visit? Stay in Ibiza Town, rent a car for day trips, and you'll cover the whole island without paying resort prices.
Ibiza for couples: the romantic picks
Cap Martinet and the Santa Eulalia coastline are where couples actually thrive in Ibiza. Boutique Hotel Tagomago sits on its own small cove near Talamanca, about 10 minutes by car from Ibiza Town but worlds away in atmosphere. Cas Gasi in the countryside near Santa Gertrudis is the most romantic property on the island, full stop.
For dinner, drive to Can Pau in Santa Gertrudis village or take the road down to Cala Mastella for Es Bigotes. one of the best and most low-key seafood spots in the Balearics. Book weeks ahead for that one. Couples who try to do romance in Sant Antoni usually end up disappointed.
Ibiza's club scene: where to stay if you're going out
Playa d'en Bossa is ground zero. Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza is literally adjacent to Hi Ibiza and Ushuaïa, which means you roll back to the room instead of waiting for a €40 cab. The trade-off is noise. ask for a room facing the pool, not the road.
Pacha is in Ibiza Town near the port, so El Hotel Pacha in Figueretas makes sense for that crowd. It's 12 minutes walk to Pacha along the waterfront past Talamanca. Sant Antoni's Amnesia and Eden are best accessed from Hotel Anfora, which sits right in Port de Sant Antoni, 5 minutes from the main club strip.
Family guide: the quieter side of Ibiza
Santa Eulalia del Rio and Cala de Sant Vicent are the two areas we'd point families towards first. Santa Eulalia's beach is wide, calm, and has shallow water. the promenade along Carrer de Ses Parres has ice cream shops and restaurants that won't make you feel like a liability. Cala de Sant Vicent in the north is even more sheltered.
Invisa Hotel Club Cala Blanca is the only family-specific pick on our list, and it's there for a reason. It sits directly on the beach at Cala de Sant Vicent, has proper kids' facilities, and is 35-40 minutes from the Ibiza Town noise. The Las Dalias Hippy Market in Sant Carles, 20 minutes south, is a solid half-day out for families.
Ibiza on a budget: how to do it right
Two budget hotels made our vetted list. Hostal Parque on Plaça des Parc in La Marina is the best-located cheap sleep on the island. you're 5 minutes from the port and 10 from Dalt Vila. Apartamentos Vibra Mogambo in central Sant Antoni has a kitchenette, which is genuinely useful when Sant Antoni beach cafés charge €14 for a sandwich.
Travel in May or October. A room that costs $200/night in August drops to $70-100/night in those months. Rent a scooter instead of a car (€25-35/day vs €45-70/day). Cala Comte and Cala Bassa beaches are free and among the best on the island. you don't need to pay for a beach club to enjoy them.
Ibiza's countryside: the other island
The interior of Ibiza. around Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera, Sant Llorenc, and the road between them. is almost a different destination. Stone fincas, fig trees, organic restaurants, and almost zero tourist infrastructure. Cas Gasi and Atzaro Agroturismo are both out here, and both sit in the $200-580/night bracket. Worth every cent if you want to decompress.
Santa Gertrudis village itself has Bar Costa on Plaça de l'Església, which has been serving bocadillos and local wine to expats and farmers equally for decades. It's the real Ibiza. You need a car for this area. the L7 bus runs twice daily and isn't reliable enough for anything spontaneous.

Ibiza Town divides into a few distinct pockets. La Marina is the port-side neighbourhood. cobblestoned, lively, and full of bars and restaurants along Carrer de la Mare de Déu. Figueretas is quieter and a bit more residential, 15 minutes walk south of the port. Dalt Vila, the UNESCO-listed walled old city, sits above it all.
Hostal Parque on Plaça des Parc puts you right in the middle of La Marina's buzz for $55-90/night. El Hotel Pacha in Figueretas steps it up to $150-230/night with a pool and direct access to the Pacha club crowd. Both are solid picks depending on what you're after.
Avoid booking anything labelled 'Ibiza Town centre' without checking exactly where it sits. Some properties advertise the address but are actually tucked behind the bus station on Avinguda d'Isidor Macabich, which is neither charming nor convenient. The 10-minute walk to La Marina feels longer at 3am.

But Port de Sant Antoni and the Sunset Strip along the western bay are a different story. Café del Mar and Café Mambo draw serious crowds every evening from June to September for the sunset ritual.

The Wednesday market at Es Canar, 4 km north of Santa Eulalia, is worth building a morning around. Santa Eulalia's own beach, Platja de Santa Eulalia, is long and family-friendly. The L1 bus from Ibiza Town takes about 25 minutes and costs €3.

Playa d'en Bossa is a 3 km stretch of beach south of Ibiza Town, and in summer it's essentially a continuous outdoor club. Ushuaïa and Hi Ibiza anchor the southern end; the beach itself is wide and the water is genuinely good. It's not quiet, and it's not trying to be.
Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza is the one property we've listed here. At $260-420/night it's the most expensive mid-tier option on our list, but the pool scene, the concert venue, and the direct proximity to Ushuaïa make it worth it for the right traveller. Don't book here if you plan on sleeping before 2am.
The airport is 3 km away, which cuts transfer costs. €8-12 by taxi. Ibiza Town is 4 km north, about €12 by cab or a 10-minute ride on the L1 bus. The beach promenade along Platja d'en Bossa is a solid morning run or walk before the crowds arrive around 11am.
