Choosing where to stay in Palma's compact center
The old town (Casc Antic) is the right base for 90 percent of visitors. The Cathedral, Arab Baths, Almudaina Palace, and the best restaurants are all within a 10-minute walk of each other. The hotels here range from the budget Hostal Apuntadors to the luxury Can Alomar, all within a few blocks.
La Llotja gives you the same central access with a slightly more design-forward atmosphere and better proximity to the waterfront. Puro Hotel is the best expression of this neighborhood's character. If you want a quieter version of the old town without giving up location, La Llotja is the right call.
Getting the best rate on Palma hotels
June and September are the sweet spots. Hotel rates in September drop 25 to 35 percent from the August peak while sea temperature stays at 24 to 25 degrees and crowds thin noticeably. May is also excellent. January and February are the cheapest months. prices can drop 50 percent from peak, and the city runs at a local pace that is genuinely pleasant.

Exploring Mallorca from a Palma hotel base
The TIB bus network is reliable and cheap. Valldemossa, the hilltop village where Chopin and George Sand wintered in 1838 to 1839, is 30 minutes by bus from Palma and costs 3 euros each way. The village has excellent pa amb oli (bread with olive oil and tomato) at Ca'n Costa on Carrer Blanquerna.
The heritage train to Soller is one of the most scenic short rail journeys in Spain. It departs from Placa d'Espanya, takes 30 minutes through the Tramuntana mountains, and costs 14 euros return. From Soller, a vintage tram runs to Port de Soller and the beach. A rental car from Palma opens the east coast. Cala Varques and Cala Mondrago are among the best beaches on the island, 45 to 55 minutes drive.

The best eating in Palma is on the streets east of Passeig del Born. Carrer de Sant Feliu and Carrer dels Apuntadors have wine bars and tapas places that stay open until midnight. Palma's culture circuit. a practical guide
Start with the Cathedral (La Seu) first thing in the morning. Tickets cost 9 euros and the building is stunning. The rose window light effect happens in specific months and times. check the cathedral website. Directly adjacent is the Almudaina Royal Palace, another 7 euros. The Arab Baths on Carrer de Can Serra are the best preserved in Spain outside of Andalusia.
Es Baluard Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art on Placa de la Porta de Santa Catalina is genuinely excellent and consistently overlooked. The building alone is worth visiting, set into the historic city walls with views across the bay. Entry costs 6 euros. The Fundacion Joan Miro on Carrer de Joan de Saridakis is 20 minutes by bus from the center.
Palma luxury hotels. honest comparison
Castillo Hotel Son Vida in the 13th-century castle has the most dramatic setting. But the 10-minute taxi ride from the city center adds friction to every evening. For luxury with urban convenience, Hotel Can Alomar on Carrer de la Unio (17 rooms, 17th-century manor, rooftop plunge pool) is more rewarding.
Palacio Ca Sa Galesa on Carrer de Miramar (12 rooms, 15th-century palace, rooftop hot tub overlooking the Cathedral) is the most intimate option. It books out fast in May, June, and September. Reserve 2 to 3 months ahead for peak dates. Nakar Hotel on Avinguda Jaume III is the best mid-luxury option with one of the strongest rooftop views in the city.
