Mustique runs on its own rhythm. The Mustique Company manages almost everything on the island, from villa rentals to moke hire to the small grocery near Lovell Village. Get registered at their office near the airport within an hour of landing. it saves hassle later.
Basil's Bar on Britannia Bay is the island's social centre. Go for the Wednesday barbecue or the Sunday jump-up. And book a table in advance during January through March. it fills up completely and there's no walk-in option when the island is busy.
How to pick between a villa and a guesthouse in Mustique.
Most accommodation on Mustique is villa-style. The difference between a $130/night villa near Macaroni Beach and a $200/night option near Pasture Bay isn't always size. it's beach access, staff, and how recently it was renovated. Check the walking time to the beach, not just the price.
Guesthouses like Mustique Guesthouse in Lovell Village give you a more grounded, local-feeling stay. You're in the island's small residential village, 10 minutes from Britannia Bay on foot. The trade-off is obvious. no private pool, smaller rooms. but at $85-110/night it's genuinely the best budget option on the island.
Mustique's beaches: which one suits your trip.
Macaroni Beach is the big one. Half-moon shaped, Atlantic-facing, and surrounded by nothing but sea grape trees. it's about as perfect as Caribbean beaches get. It's on the eastern side of the island, roughly 10 minutes by moke from Britannia Bay.
Cheltenham Bay is calmer and better for families or anyone who finds big waves tiring. Endeavour Bay and L'Ansecoy Bay are quieter still. almost always empty. and genuinely beautiful if you want the whole stretch to yourself. Pasture Bay on the south coast is wild and dramatic but not great for swimming.
The honest guide to Mustique's luxury hotels.
The Cotton House in Endeavour Bay is the only full-service hotel on the island. At $900-1,800/night it's one of the most expensive places to stay in the entire Caribbean, and it earns it. The restored 18th-century sugar mill, the tennis courts, the spa, and the fact that it's a 3-minute walk from Endeavour Bay justify the price for the right traveller.
Villa Toucan Hill at $1,200-3,500/night is at the very top. It sits on Toucan Hill with 360-degree views across the island and the Grenadines. This is where you go if privacy and scale are the priority. not beach proximity. It's a 10-minute moke ride to Britannia Bay, but most guests rarely feel the need.
When to book and what to avoid booking during.
The Mustique Blues Festival in late January or early February is the single biggest event on the island's calendar. Villas at Britannia Bay sell out 6-12 months in advance. If you're not coming for the festival, avoid that week entirely unless you've already confirmed your booking. you will not find last-minute options.
Hurricane season runs June through November. September and October carry the highest risk. Rates drop to $75-150/night at most properties, but several villas close entirely. If you visit in this window, stick to October or early November. risk is lower, prices are low, and the island is gloriously empty.
Getting around Mustique without losing your mind.
Mokes are the standard way to move around. Hire one from the Mustique Company depot near the airport. around $75-100/day. The island has one main loop road connecting Lovell Village, Britannia Bay, Macaroni Beach, and Cheltenham Bay. You can drive the full loop in about 15 minutes.
Taxis exist but they're essentially the island's shared moke service. informal and not always available when you need one. Walking is feasible between Lovell Village and Britannia Bay (about 10 minutes) but most beach-to-beach routes involve hills that aren't fun in Caribbean heat. Just get the moke.

Basil's Bar sits right on the bay, the jetty is where supply boats and charter yachts come in, and the Mustique Company office is a 5-minute walk from the water. If you want to feel connected to the island rather than isolated from it, this is where to base yourself.
