Rudaki Avenue is the spine of the city. Everything useful branches off it: Shokhin Street toward Hotel Tajikistan, Safar Khujandov toward Hotel Serena, Bokhtar Street toward Hotel Meridian. Know this axis and you'll navigate Dushanbe in your head within a day.
The Sino District is where the city bleeds into residential Dushanbe. It works fine for business hotels like Avesto but it's the wrong base for sightseeing. Aini Square is more central than it sounds on a map and sits right between the National Museum and the Opera Theatre. both worth an evening.
