Whitby Beach or Sandy Point: which side should you stay on?
Whitby Beach is the default for good reason. You've got calmer water, easier beach access from Whitby Ridge and the beachfront strip, and the highest concentration of places to eat on the island. Pelican Beach Hotel sits right on it, and Prospect of Whitby is a 7-minute walk from the shore.
Sandy Point Beach is longer, wilder, and almost always empty. Coconut Grove Vacation Rentals puts you right on it. But the nearest grocery run is 25 minutes by car, and if your rental breaks down, you're really stuck. Go to Sandy Point if seclusion is the actual goal. not just a nice idea.
The honest guide to getting around North Caicos
Rent a car. That's the whole guide, really. Cars are available from a couple of operators near Bellefield Landing Dock for $65-90/day. Without one, you're limited to wherever you're staying, and most of the island's best spots. Pumpkin Bluff, Flamingo Pond, the road down to Sandy Point. are unreachable on foot.
Taxis exist but they're not metered. Expect to negotiate, and budget $25-40 for a one-way trip from Bellefield Landing to Whitby. The ferry from Provo to Bellefield runs roughly 4-5 times daily and is the cheapest way on and off the island at around $20 each way.
Best value hotels in North Caicos by budget
Under $100/night, Pelican Beach Hotel in Whitby is the only real choice with actual beach access. Silver Palm Guest House in Kew costs less but you're trading location for price. In the $110-185 range, Bottle Creek Lodge has the best setting of the mid-range options, right on the lagoon. Ocean Beach Hotel Condominiums gives families the most space for the money.
Once you cross $200/night, the value proposition shifts completely. Middle Caicos Eco-Resort at $195-245/night is worth every dollar for the caves and seclusion. Above $600/night, both Meridian Club and Ambergris Cay deliver a level of service and privacy that genuinely justifies the rate. Don't apologise for spending it.
When to book. and how far in advance
December through April fills up fast. Prospect of Whitby Hotel and Coconut Grove Vacation Rentals are often booked out 8-10 weeks ahead during the Christmas and February school holiday windows. The Meridian Club on Pine Cay can be fully committed 3-4 months out for peak weeks. Book luxury first, since those rooms are fewest.
May and June are genuinely the best time to visit if you have flexibility. Prices drop 20-30% across the board, the weather is still mostly dry at 27-30°C, and the island feels like it's yours. We'd take late May over Christmas week every time.
North Caicos neighbourhood guide: where locals will tell you to stay
Whitby Ridge and the Whitby Beach Front strip are the most convenient bases. You're near the small cluster of local restaurants on the main road through Whitby, the beach is walkable, and the road to Bottle Creek is easy from here. Kew Settlement is pleasant but quiet in a way that tips into dull if you're not specifically after the Wade's Green Plantation historic site.
Bottle Creek and Bellefield Landing are underrated. Bottle Creek Lagoon is genuinely beautiful, flamingos use Flamingo Pond just south of it, and Touring Blue Inn at the dock area gives you fast access to charters. Conch Bar near Middle Caicos is technically across the causeway but worth knowing about if you're planning to explore both islands.
Things to know before you arrive
Water can be unreliable. North Caicos has no mains water supply in the traditional sense. most properties use rainwater cisterns or desalination. In dry season, late March through June, pressure can drop. The better hotels manage this well, but budget guesthouses sometimes don't. Ask before you book if this matters to you.
Dining options are limited and nothing runs late. The handful of spots near Whitby Beach close by 9pm most nights. If you're staying at a self-catering property like Coconut Grove or Ocean Beach Hotel Condominiums, stock up on groceries at the small shop in Kew before you settle in. Bring cash: card machines exist but connectivity on the island is patchy.

Three hotels cluster here: Pelican Beach Hotel right on the beach at $75-99/night, Ocean Beach Hotel Condominiums on the beachfront strip at $130-185/night, and Prospect of Whitby up on Whitby Ridge at $160-210/night. Each is a slightly different offer but all within 10 minutes of the water. Prospect of Whitby is the most polished and sits above the fray with good views across the north shore.
Three Mary Cays is a 15-minute drive east of Whitby and worth every minute for the snorkelling. If you're spending more than 2 nights on the island, base yourself in Whitby and use it as a hub.

Flamingo Pond is a short drive south, and on a calm morning you can see flamingos from the road without even stopping the car. It's a quieter corner of North Caicos than Whitby, and that's the draw.
Bottle Creek Lodge sits directly on the lagoon at $110-155/night with the Best Location badge, and it earns it. Touring Blue Inn is 15 minutes north at Bellefield Landing Dock, priced $175-220/night, and is the right pick if you're planning boat trips or need easy ferry connections to Provo. Don't underestimate the drive to Whitby from here: it's about 20 minutes on a good road, but the island closes early and the lack of street lighting makes night driving an adventure. Come to this area with a plan, not just a vibe.
