Al Aqah vs Dibba: which beach strip should you pick?
Al Aqah Beach Road is the more developed of the two, with Iberotel Miramar and Le Meridien sitting almost next door to each other. You've got Snoopy Island right offshore. walk to the dive centre in under 5 minutes from either hotel. The trade-off is it can feel busy on UAE public holidays.
Dibba Al Fujairah is quieter and feels less resort-packaged. Mirage Bab Al Bahr here has a more relaxed vibe, and Dibba Rock is one of the best dive sites in the country just offshore. If you want fewer crowds and don't mind a 15-minute drive south to the Al Aqah strip, Dibba is genuinely the better call.
How to get around Fujairah without a car
Honest answer: it's hard. Public transport in Fujairah is limited to a handful of local bus routes, and the Fujairah Bus Station near Hamad Bin Abdullah Road doesn't cover the Al Aqah stretch reliably. Taxis from Fujairah City to Al Aqah cost around $15-20 and take 35-40 minutes.
Your best bet is renting a car at Fujairah International Airport. rates start around $30-40/day for a basic sedan. Ride-hailing apps like Careem work in the city but get unreliable north of Fujairah towards Dibba. If you're staying at a resort in Al Aqah, many run a shuttle to Fujairah City a few times a week. ask at check-in.
The Fujairah Fort and old town: what's actually worth your time
Fujairah Fort sits on a hill above the old village and is one of the oldest forts in the UAE, dating to the 16th century. It's a 10-minute walk from the Fujairah Museum on Mataf Street, and the two are worth doing back to back. Entry is a few dirhams and the views over the city from the fort walls are solid.
Al Bidya Mosque, about 20 minutes north of Fujairah City on the coastal road near Al Bidya village, is the oldest mosque in the UAE and completely free to visit outside prayer times. It's genuinely worth the detour. Skip the souvenir stalls outside and instead grab lunch at one of the small Emirati cafes on the main road through Al Bidya.
Wadi trips and mountain drives from your hotel
The Hajar Mountains running behind Fujairah make for some of the best day trips in the UAE. Wadi Wurayah is a protected national park about 25 minutes from Fujairah City with freshwater pools and a waterfall. rare in the region. You'll need a 4WD to get fully inside, but the lower trails are accessible in a regular car.
Friday Market in Masafi is about 30 minutes inland on Route 88 and sells local pottery, spices, and produce. It operates daily despite the name. If you're based at Fujairah Rotana on Al Aqah Road, the wadi entry points in Wadi Siji are a 20-minute drive and far less visited than the main Wadi Wurayah circuit.
What to eat in Fujairah: skip the hotel buffet (mostly)
Fujairah City has a solid cluster of South Asian and Emirati restaurants around the Lulu Hypermarket area and along Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Road. Expect to eat well for $8-15 per person. The hotel buffets at Al Aqah resorts are convenient but typically $30-45 per head for food that's only okay.
For fresh fish, the Fujairah Fish Market near the port area opens early morning and is worth the trip if you're self-catering or staying somewhere with kitchen access. Several small Omani-style grills near Dibba port do excellent grilled hammour for under $10. Khor Fakkan has a nice strip of cafes along the corniche that are popular with local families on weekends.
Fujairah hotel booking mistakes we see constantly
The biggest one: booking a 'sea view' room in Fujairah City and expecting Al Aqah Beach outside your window. The city sits on the coast, sure, but the harbour area around Fujairah Port is industrial, not scenic. If beach access is your priority, book Al Aqah Beach Road or Dibba Coastal Strip specifically.
Second mistake: visiting during UAE National Day (December 2-3) without booking at least 6 weeks out. Every resort from Al Aqah to Dibba fills up and prices spike 40-60%. Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha cause the same squeeze. Book around these dates or lock in early. rates at Radisson Blu can jump from $260 to over $400/night during peak holiday weekends.

Al Aqah Beach Road is a narrow coastal strip running between Al Aqah village and the edge of Dibba, with the Hajar Mountains as a backdrop and Snoopy Island sitting 200 metres offshore. The water here is clear enough to see the reef from the beach. It's the reason most people come to Fujairah at all.
Le Meridien and Iberotel Miramar are the two anchors on this strip, and both have direct private beach access. Le Meridien at $180-240/night edges it on quality and is the top-rated pick in our entire Fujairah list. The restaurants at both hotels are genuinely decent by resort standards.
Outside the resorts, there's not much to walk to. You'll need a car or taxi for anything beyond the beach and hotel facilities. But honestly, if you're here for the water, that trade-off is fine.
