Nên ở đâu tại Brunei
Khu vực bạn chọn quan trọng hơn bản thân khách sạn.
BSB city centre vs. Gadong: which base is right for you?
The city centre, specifically the Jalan Pemancha and Jalan McArthur area, is where you want to be for sightseeing. You're 8 minutes on foot from the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, 12 minutes from the Royal Regalia Museum, and the Kampong Ayer water taxis leave from the waterfront right below you. Terrace Hotel and The Brunei Hotel both sit in this zone.
Gadong is louder, more commercial, and honestly more convenient for eating and shopping. The Gadong night market runs every evening along Jalan Gadong, and you're surrounded by restaurants and supermarkets. Jubilee Hotel and Rizqun International are both here. and if you're staying more than 3 nights, the extra convenience is worth it.
Getting around Brunei without a car
It's doable, but it takes planning. The BGFC bus network connects BSB to Gadong, Tutong, and Seria, but don't expect buses more frequent than every 45 minutes. From BSB's central bus terminal near Jalan Cator, you can reach Gadong in about 20 minutes for under $2.
For Jerudong, Temburong, or late-night trips, you're looking at taxis or apps like Dart. Taxis from BSB to the Empire Hotel in Jerudong run $25-35 depending on traffic. Grab doesn't operate in Brunei, so save Dart's number before you land. or ask your hotel front desk to call one.
The honest truth about Kampong Ayer hotels
Kampong Ayer is the world's largest water village, built on stilts above the Brunei River, and staying there is a legitimate experience. Pusat Belia at $45-70/night is the most practical option. it's basic but clean, and the view of the mosque from the water at sunrise is something you'll actually remember.
The catch: boat taxis are your only way in and out, and they thin out significantly after 9-10pm. Plan your evenings around this. We've seen too many travellers stuck on the mainland side after a late dinner on Jalan Residency, waiting 40 minutes for a boat that may or may not come.
Brunei's oil towns: Seria and Kuala Belait explained
Most guides ignore Seria and Kuala Belait. That's a mistake if you're travelling the full country. Seria is an oil company town with a quiet, almost surreal tidiness to it. Billionth Barrel Monument on Jalan McKerron is worth seeing. KH Soon Resthouse in the town centre at $110-150/night is comfortable and well-run.
Kuala Belait sits on the coast and feels more like a small fishing port. Mega Hotel on the main town strip runs $115-160/night and has the best location in the area. Neither town has much nightlife, but that's not why you're there. the drive along the coastal highway from BSB through the rainforest is genuinely stunning.
When to book and when to avoid
The Sultan's Birthday on July 15 is Brunei's biggest annual event. Celebrations in BSB go on for days, rooms in Gadong and the city centre sell out weeks in advance, and prices jump 30-50%. If you want to see the pageantry, book 6-8 weeks out. If you don't, avoid BSB entirely that week.
Ramadan is trickier. It shifts 11 days earlier every year, so check the calendar. Hotel restaurants scale back dramatically, and some cafes near Jalan Sultan close until iftar time around 6:30-7pm. It's not a dealbreaker, but if food access matters to you, factor it in when picking your dates.
The Empire Hotel: is it really worth $280-600/night?
Short answer: yes, if you can afford it. The Empire Hotel on Jalan Tutong in Jerudong is genuinely one of the most extraordinary hotel properties in Southeast Asia. Marble corridors, a private beach, three pools, a golf course, and rooms that were designed with the kind of budget most countries don't apply to entire airports.
It's a splurge, but it's not a rip-off. The $280 entry point gets you a Superior Room that would cost $450+ in Singapore or KL. Book directly through the hotel's official site. they offer packages that bundle breakfast and airport transfers that reduce the effective cost considerably. Don't come here for convenience to BSB sights: it's 25 minutes from the city centre. Come for the hotel itself.

Khu vực khách sạn tốt nhất của Brunei
Bandar Seri Begawan is the obvious base, and it's the right one: most of Brunei's landmarks sit within 20 minutes of the capital. But if you're heading to the oil towns or want something completely off the beaten track, Seria and Kuala Belait are worth knowing.
Bandar Seri Begawan 6 khách sạn được xác minh The capital. The mosque. The water village. Start here.
The capital. The mosque. The water village. Start here.
BSB is compact but layered. The city centre around Jalan Pemancha and the waterfront is tourist-facing. close to the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque and the Royal Regalia Museum, with The Brunei Hotel and Terrace Hotel covering the mid-range and budget ends here. Kampong Ayer sits just off the waterfront, accessible by water taxi for $1.
Gadong, about 6km northwest, is where locals actually live, shop, and eat. The night market on Jalan Gadong runs every evening and is genuinely excellent. Rizqun International and Jubilee Hotel anchor the area, both rated above 7.5, and prices reflect the convenience: $100-190/night for good rooms.
Jalan Tasek and Jalan Tutong are the residential and business corridors heading out of the city. The Radisson sits on Jalan Tasek, 15 minutes from the centre by taxi, and makes sense for corporate travellers who value quiet over proximity. Skip the budget guesthouses along Jalan Kianggeh. they're poorly maintained and the location savings aren't worth it.

One hotel. One address. Worth every dollar.
Jerudong is a low-density residential area about 20km from BSB along Jalan Tutong, and it exists on the hotel map for exactly one reason: The Empire Hotel and Country Club. This is Brunei's only genuine luxury resort, and it dominates the area completely.
The hotel sits within Jerudong Park, a sprawling royal-commissioned complex with its own beach, golf course, and equestrian facilities. Rooms start at $280/night and scale to over $600 for suites. The grounds are immaculate and the service is polished in a way that doesn't feel rehearsed.
You're not near anything else here. Restaurants outside the hotel are limited to a handful of local spots along Jalan Jerudong, none of which are destination dining. This is a resort stay, not a base for exploring. If you want to see BSB, budget for taxi fares of $25-35 each way.
Xem tất cả khách sạn Jerudong → Seria & Kuala Belait 2 khách sạn được xác minh Oil country, coastal roads, and zero tourist crowds.
Oil country, coastal roads, and zero tourist crowds.
Seria is 90km southwest of BSB along the coastal highway, and it's one of the strangest and most interesting towns in Brunei. Built around Shell's oil operations, it's neat, quiet, and oddly fascinating. KH Soon Resthouse in Seria town centre at $110-150/night is the pick here: well-maintained, centrally located, and unpretentious.
Kuala Belait is another 20km further and sits right on the coast. Mega Hotel on the town's main strip offers good rooms at $115-160/night and is about 5 minutes walk from the beach and the local seafood stalls on Jalan McKerron. The town has a laid-back fishing village feel that's completely different from BSB.
Neither town is a base for Brunei's main attractions, but they work well as a stop on a multi-day road trip through the country. The drive from BSB through Tutong and Seria passes some genuinely beautiful secondary rainforest.
Xem tất cả khách sạn Seria & Kuala Belait → Tutong 1 khách sạn được xác minh Quiet district, family pace, halfway between everything.
Quiet district, family pace, halfway between everything.
Tutong sits about 40km northwest of BSB and is the kind of place that doesn't make anyone's highlight reel but works extremely well for families. Pandan Valley Hotel in Tutong Town at $105-145/night has space, calm surroundings, and easy access to Tasek Merimbun, Brunei's largest natural lake.
The town itself is small. Jalan Enchi Awang is the main commercial strip, with food stalls and a local market that operates mornings only. You're not here for urban buzz. You're here for the Tutong River, the nearby rainforest, and a lower pace than you'll find in BSB.
For families with kids under 12, this makes a lot of sense as a 2-night stop in a longer trip. For solo travellers or couples on a short break, Tutong probably isn't worth the detour unless you specifically want the lake or nature access.

Romantic
Jalan Pemancha in BSB, where The Brunei Hotel sits, gives you waterfront views and the mosque lit up at night. A water taxi at dusk to Kampong Ayer and back costs $2 and beats any restaurant candle setup.
Culture
The city centre around Jalan Sultan is your focus: the Royal Regalia Museum, the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, and the Malay Technology Museum are all within 15 minutes on foot. Stay in this zone and you won't need transport for your first two days.
Family
Tutong Town's Pandan Valley Hotel has the space and calm that families actually need, and Tasek Merimbun is 20 minutes away. For families wanting more to do, Gadong's night market on Jalan Gadong runs every evening and kids love it.
Budget
Kampong Ayer is genuinely the best budget experience in Brunei: Pusat Belia at $45-70/night puts you on the water with that mosque view. Terrace Hotel in BSB city centre at $75-95/night is the best budget pick if you want dry land and easier transport.
Beach
Jerudong Park's private beach at The Empire Hotel is the most polished option, but you're paying $280+/night for it. Kuala Belait's town beach is free, public, and about 5 minutes walk from Mega Hotel. far less glamorous, but genuinely local.
Foodie
Gadong is the answer, full stop. The night market along Jalan Gadong runs every evening with ambuyat, local satay, and seafood stalls that cost almost nothing. Jubilee and Rizqun International both put you within walking distance of the best eating in the country.
Cách chúng tôi đánh giá những khách sạn này
Mỗi khách sạn trong danh sách này đều trải qua cùng một quy trình đánh giá. Đây là cách chúng tôi chấm điểm.
We reviewed 2,000+ options across the main regions of Brunei. We cut anything that leaned on misleading photos of the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque to distract from dated, overpriced rooms nearby. Properties in Kampong Ayer that charge waterfront premiums but can't guarantee boat access after dark got dropped too. Anything with inconsistent reviews citing unexplained room upgrades. likely paid rankings. didn't make the list either.
Peak Season (Dec-Jan)
December and January bring the wettest weather and the highest prices, a frustrating combination. The school holiday period drives domestic demand in BSB, and rooms at Rizqun and Radisson fill fast. If you're visiting around the New Year, book 6-8 weeks out and expect to pay 20-30% above the annual average.
Sweet Spot (Feb-Apr)
This is the window we'd recommend without hesitation. Humidity eases slightly, rainfall is lower than the wet months, and hotel prices across BSB drop noticeably. The Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque and Kampong Ayer are both far more pleasant to explore in drier conditions. Rooms at The Brunei Hotel and Jubilee run $15-40 cheaper per night than their December rates.
Mid-Year (May-Aug)
The Sultan's Birthday on July 15 is the event that dominates this window. BSB fills up. especially Gadong and the city centre. and prices spike for the surrounding week. Outside that week, May and June offer decent conditions with moderate crowds. August is wetter but manageable.
Low Season (Sep-Nov)
October and November bring heavier rainfall, particularly in Temburong and the interior. But if rain doesn't put you off, hotel prices hit their yearly low: Terrace Hotel drops to around $75/night and even Rizqun International dips under $140. Kampong Ayer is atmospheric in the rain, and the Royal Regalia Museum is entirely indoors. Not a bad trade.
Cách đặt khách sạn tại Brunei
Chiến lược đặt phòng thông minh cho Brunei.
Book direct for The Empire Hotel
The Empire Hotel on Jalan Tutong doesn't always offer its best rates through third-party platforms. Their official site regularly packages breakfast, airport transfers, and activity credits into bundles that reduce the effective nightly rate by $40-80. Call the reservations team directly. they sometimes offer room upgrades for direct bookings that don't show up online.
The Sultan's Birthday week: book 6 weeks out or skip it
July 15 is Brunei's biggest national celebration. The parade along Jalan Sultan draws crowds from across the country, and hotels in Gadong and the BSB city centre are fully booked weeks in advance. Prices at Jubilee and Rizqun International jump 30-50% for the surrounding 5-7 days. If you want to experience the celebrations, book by early June. If you just want value, avoid BSB entirely that week.
Kampong Ayer boat taxis: set a curfew
Water taxis serving Kampong Ayer run from the waterfront near Jalan McArthur and become unreliable after 10pm. If you're staying at Pusat Belia, plan to be back on the water village side by 9:30pm at the latest. The $1 fare is fixed but the wait time after dark can stretch to 30-40 minutes. Don't assume you can find a boat on demand at midnight.
Ramadan affects hotel dining significantly
During Ramadan, which moves 11 days earlier annually, hotel restaurants in BSB either close until iftar (around 6:30-7pm) or offer reduced services. Rizqun International and Radisson maintain the most consistent F&B operations during the fasting month. If you're arriving outside iftar hours and need food, check with your hotel in advance. the lobby café situation varies a lot by property.
Tutong and Seria: bring cash
Outside BSB, card acceptance drops sharply. KH Soon Resthouse in Seria and Pandan Valley in Tutong both take cards at check-in, but local restaurants and markets near these hotels are mostly cash-only. Brunei dollars are used locally and are interchangeable with Singapore dollars at 1:1, which is useful if you're arriving from Singapore. ATMs in Tutong Town and along Jalan McKerron in Kuala Belait work reliably.
Mid-week rates at Radisson and Rizqun
Business hotels like the Radisson on Jalan Tasek and Rizqun International in Gadong see genuine price differences between weekdays and weekends. Sunday-Tuesday nights run $15-30 cheaper than Friday-Saturday at both properties. If your travel dates are flexible, shifting your check-in to a Monday instead of a Friday can save you $60+ over a 3-night stay.
Câu hỏi thường gặp về khách sạn tại Brunei
Câu trả lời thẳng thắn từ đội ngũ của chúng tôi.
What's the best area to stay in Brunei for first-time visitors?
Stick to Bandar Seri Begawan's city centre or Gadong. You're within 10 minutes walk of the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque from the city centre, and Gadong puts you near the night market and Rizqun International Hotel. Most first-timers don't realise Gadong is actually the commercial hub, not the old town. Mid-range rooms in Gadong run $100-190/night and you won't need a taxi for most of your first day.
Is Brunei an expensive place to stay?
Less than you'd expect. Budget options like Pusat Belia Youth Centre in Kampong Ayer start at $45/night, while the city centre's Terrace Hotel lands at $75-95/night. The real price jump happens at the luxury end: The Empire Hotel in Jerudong starts at $280/night and goes well past $500. For most travellers, $100-150/night gets you a solid, comfortable room in BSB.
How do I get around Brunei between hotels?
Honestly, you'll need a car or taxi most of the time. The BGFC bus service covers routes between BSB, Gadong, and Seria but runs infrequently, roughly every 30-60 minutes. Taxis from BSB city centre to Jerudong cost around $25-35 and take about 25 minutes. If you're staying at The Empire Hotel on Jalan Tutong, budget for private transport or a rental. there's no practical public bus connection.
What's the best time of year to visit Brunei?
February through April is the sweet spot. Temperatures sit at 26-31°C, humidity drops slightly, and hotel prices in BSB are 15-20% lower than the December-January peak. The Sultan's Birthday celebrations in mid-July bring price spikes across Gadong and the city centre. Avoid late November through January if you hate rain: BSB can see 300mm+ in a single wet week.
Can I walk between hotels and main attractions in Bandar Seri Begawan?
Yes, if you're based in the city centre or Jalan Pemancha area. The Royal Regalia Museum is about 12 minutes on foot from The Brunei Hotel on Jalan Pemancha, and the waterfront is even closer.
