This small guesthouse is located near the Masvingo town centre, making it a practical stop for visits to Great Zimbabwe ruins, which are about 25 kilometres away. Cresta Jameson Hotel

Hwange Safari Lodge
Hwange Safari Lodge is set right on the edge of Hwange National Park, and elephants regularly visit the floodlit waterhole visible from the main deck. Rooms are comfortable chalets with proper beds and hot water, not glamping. Game drives depart directly from the lodge, which saves time and hassle. The bar area at sunset is genuinely hard to beat. Book well ahead because availability fills up fast during dry season.

Troutbeck Resort
Troutbeck Resort is tucked into the Nyanga Highlands at about 1800 metres elevation, and the cooler air is immediately noticeable after lowland Zimbabwe. The stone architecture and open fireplaces give it a genuinely cosy feel that is uncommon in the country. Trout fishing on the property lake is a real draw for anglers. Rooms are warm, well-furnished, and quiet at night. A favourite weekend escape for Zimbabweans and worth the drive from Harare.

Bumi Hills Safari Lodge
Bumi Hills perches on a hillside above Lake Kariba with unobstructed views over the water and the Matusadona range beyond. The infinity pool appears to float directly above the lake, and it is as good as it looks in photos. Each suite has a private deck and the interiors are polished without feeling overdesigned. Game drives and boat safaris are included in most packages and both are well run. This is the kind of place that justifies the splurge if Zimbabwe is a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Singita Pamushana Lodge
Singita Pamushana sits inside the private Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve near Chiredzi in the lowveld of southeast Zimbabwe. Six villas are spread across the hillside, each with a private pool and views across the reserve that are hard to match anywhere on the continent. The guiding quality is exceptional and the reserve is uncrowded by design. All meals, drinks, and twice-daily game activities are included in the rate. It is expensive by any measure, but the experience is among the best Zimbabwe has to offer.

Meikles Hotel
Meikles Hotel on Jason Moyo Avenue has been operating since 1915 and remains the most respected address in Harare. The lobby sets a confident tone with high ceilings and attentive staff. Rooms are large with quality linen and good blackout curtains. The Pavilion restaurant consistently delivers some of the best food in the city. It is the closest thing Harare has to a genuine grand hotel.

Nên ở đâu tại Zimbabwe
Khu vực bạn chọn quan trọng hơn bản thân khách sạn.
Victoria Falls Zimbabwe: The Panoramic Side
The Zimbabwe side gives you Rainforest Road, a 1km path through mist-soaked forest running the full width of the falls. Victoria Falls Hotel on Mallet Drive is the grand colonial choice, open since 1904, with uninterrupted falls views from the terrace. Elephant Hills Resort is 2km from the falls with a golf course and better value than the hotel's heritage pricing.
The Devil's Pool is on the Zambian side but helicopter flights from the Zimbabwe side cover both in 12-15 minutes for $150-200/person. Book these through Shearwater Adventures or UTC on Livingstone Way in Victoria Falls town. Do the walk through Rainforest Road at 7am before tour groups arrive.
Hwange: Elephants in the Thousands
Hwange National Park is 100km from Victoria Falls on the A8 road, about 1.5 hours. The park is Zimbabwe's largest at 14,651 square kilometers. The main camp area around Main Camp and Sinamatella are accessible in a 2WD vehicle on gravel. The southern Robins Camp area requires 4WD and has fewer visitors. Hwange Safari Lodge inside the park sits at a major waterhole where 300-400 elephants can appear in a single afternoon.
Wild dogs are reliably seen in Hwange. The park has one of Africa's largest populations. Ask guides at Hwange Safari Lodge specifically for wild dog sightings. September and October are the prime months for large waterhole aggregations. Night drives from the lodge run $60/person for a 3-hour excursion through the darkness.
Harare: The Capital Worth One Day
Harare is better than its reputation suggests for a one-night stopover. The Avenues neighborhood north of the CBD has the best restaurants and coffee shops. Sam Levy's Village in Borrowdale has upscale shopping, wine bars, and the kind of comfortable suburban life that surprises first-time visitors. Meikles Hotel on Jason Moyo Avenue is Harare's historic grand hotel and well maintained.
The National Gallery of Zimbabwe on Julius Nyerere Way has excellent Shona sculpture collections. Mbare Musika market is the real market experience. Cresta Jameson Hotel on Samora Machel Avenue is the reliable business choice at $110-165/night. Avoid the Harare CBD at night. The suburbs of Borrowdale, Avenues, and Newlands are perfectly safe.
Great Zimbabwe and Masvingo: Africa's Stone Ruins
Great Zimbabwe is genuinely impressive and genuinely under-visited compared to what it deserves. The Great Enclosure's walls rise 11 meters without a drop of mortar, built from 15,000 tons of granite blocks. The Hill Complex gives the best overview of the full site. Entry is $15 and the site can be covered in 2-3 hours.
Masvingo town is 30km from the ruins on a paved road. Ivory Lodge is the sensible base at $55-85/night. Lake Mutirikwi (formerly Kyle Dam) surrounds the site and has boat trips, rhino tracking, and small game viewing through the Zimbabwe Parks Authority at rates around $20/person for 2 hours.
Kariba and Matusadona: The Houseboat Frontier
Lake Kariba stretches 280km along the Zimbabwe-Zambia border, the world's largest man-made reservoir by volume. Bumi Hills Safari Lodge sits on a hill above the lake with views across to Zambia's Matusadona shores. Game walks from Bumi Hills are led by armed rangers through areas with lions, elephants, and buffalo.
Houseboats on Kariba rent for $200-400/night for a 6-berth vessel. You anchor at bays with elephant herds drinking on shore at dawn. Kapenta fishing rigs operate at night with lights attracting the small sardine-like fish that are a Zimbabwean dietary staple. Kariba town has a basic airstrip with charter flights from Harare.
Eastern Highlands: Zimbabwe's Mountain Secret
The Eastern Highlands are the least-visited major area in Zimbabwe and arguably the most beautiful. Nyanga is the main hub, 4 hours east of Harare on a good paved road. Troutbeck Resort at Troutbeck Village has been the area's landmark hotel since 1950. Fly fishing in the Nyangombe River, horse riding through montane forest, and walking on high moorland are the main activities.
Bvumba Botanical Garden near Mutare has 1,000+ plant species in a misty mountain setting. The road from Mutare up into the Bvumba is spectacular. Chimanimani further south has the most dramatic landscape, a wilderness of quartzite mountains that requires no vehicle to explore on foot. Camping is available from $10/night at Chimanimani National Park.

Victoria Falls town is compact, walkable, and totally geared to tourism. Victoria Falls Hotel on Mallet Drive is the colonial classic, 10 minutes walk from the falls entrance. The falls are open year-round. Peak volume is March-May (can close some paths from spray). Peak dryness is October-November (some sections are bone dry). The sweet spot for both walkability and volume is June-August.

Kariba town has houseboats for hire from $200-400/night for a 6-berth vessel. Waking up anchored off a remote bay with elephants on the shore is an experience most safari-goers miss completely. The Matusadona shore is a UNESCO-listed wildlife area visible from every point on the lake.

Romantic
Bumi Hills Safari Lodge above Lake Kariba has one of Zimbabwe's most dramatic settings for couples. Candlelit dinners on the cliff with Zambia visible across the water. Troutbeck Resort in Nyanga does romantic mountain escapes with roaring fireplaces and trout fishing for two. Victoria Falls Hotel's terrace is one of the most iconic spots in Africa.
Culture
Great Zimbabwe is the essential cultural stop. The stone enclosures built by the Shona Kingdom between 1100 and 1450 are genuinely extraordinary. The National Gallery in Harare has the best collection of Shona stone sculpture in the world. Matobo Hills south of Bulawayo has San rock paintings in granite caves, some dating back 13,000 years.
Family
Victoria Falls is excellent for families. The falls walkway takes 45 minutes and is accessible for all ages. Junior Victoria Falls Hotel has family rooms. Hwange day trips from Victoria Falls work well for children from age 5 upwards on vehicle game drives. Great Zimbabwe is engaging for older children who enjoy history.
Budget
Zimbabwe has more budget options than people expect. Possum Lodge in Bulawayo runs $45-75/night. Ivory Lodge in Masvingo is $55-85/night. Victoria Falls town has guesthouses on Parkway Drive from $50/night. National Parks accommodation inside Hwange at Main Camp runs $30-60/night. Self-catering is available throughout the Eastern Highlands from $40-80/night.
Beach
Zimbabwe is landlocked but Lake Kariba's coves and beaches are exceptional for swimming and water activities. Bumi Hills has a private beach on the lake. Houseboats anchor in sheltered bays with swimming off the deck. Lake Mutirikwi near Great Zimbabwe also has a beach area, though it is small and basic.
Foodie
Harare has a genuinely good restaurant scene in the Avenues and Borrowdale. Amanzi Restaurant on Enterprise Road does Zimbabwean produce in a garden setting. Victoria Falls Safari Club does the best boma dinner under the stars with traditional Zimbabwean dishes. Kapenta fish, a Kariba staple, is worth trying at local restaurants in Kariba town.
Cách chúng tôi đánh giá những khách sạn này
Mỗi khách sạn trong danh sách này đều trải qua cùng một quy trình đánh giá. Đây là cách chúng tôi chấm điểm.
We cross-referenced 35,000+ Booking.com properties across Zimbabwe with park proximity, historical quality, and authentic traveler reviews. Colonial-era hotels that have slipped on maintenance did not survive our review process.
Dry Season (May-October)
The dry season is Zimbabwe's best period. Animals concentrate at waterholes. Hwange's elephant aggregations peak in August-September. Victoria Falls is lower in October but walkable without drowning in spray. Temperatures are comfortable June-August but climb sharply in October. Book Hwange and Kariba lodges 3-4 months ahead for July-September.
Victoria Falls Peak (February-April)
Maximum water volume reaches the falls from February to April. The spray creates rainbows and soaks every viewpoint. Some paths close from flooding but the main Rainforest Road stays open. Wildlife viewing in Hwange is poor because game disperses with abundant water. Victoria Falls Hotel is fully booked from March to May. Book 3-4 months ahead.
Green Season (November-January)
The rains bring heat and humidity to the lowlands. Hwange game drives are challenging as animals disperse. But prices drop 30-40% and many lodges offer green season specials. Victoria Falls is rising through December. The Eastern Highlands are cool and misty, a completely different experience from the lowland heat.
Shoulder Season (April, November)
April and November are transitional months with fewer crowds and better prices. April has good wildlife viewing, green scenery, and the falls at or near peak volume. November is the transition before rains fully arrive. Good for self-drivers on quiet roads. Prices are 20-30% below peak. Troutbeck Resort in Nyanga is at its best in April.
Cách đặt khách sạn tại Zimbabwe
Chiến lược đặt phòng thông minh cho Zimbabwe.
Combine Victoria Falls with Hwange in one trip
Victoria Falls to Hwange is 100km on the A8, about 1.5 hours. Many travelers do 2-3 nights at Vic Falls then move to Hwange for 3 nights. Self-drivers can easily cover this route. Alternatively, book a transfer through Shearwater or UTC. Hwange Safari Lodge inside the park handles transfers from both Victoria Falls airport and town.
Get the KAZA Univisa for both Zimbabwe and Zambia
The KAZA Univisa costs $50 and covers both countries for 30 days. If you are at Victoria Falls, you will want to do both sides at some point. Get it at Victoria Falls Airport or at the border crossing. The single-entry Zimbabwe visa is $30. The KAZA gives you the flexibility to cross freely without paying again.
Carry USD in small bills at all times
Zimbabwe effectively operates on USD. Lodge fees, activity operators, and park entry all accept USD. ATMs in Victoria Falls and Harare dispense USD. But small traders, fuel stations outside major towns, and tipping all require small bills. Bring plenty of $1, $5, and $10 notes. A $100 bill at a rural roadside stall creates problems.
Book Singita Pamushana very far in advance
Singita Pamushana Lodge in Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve near Chiredzi is one of Africa's finest wildlife experiences. It is also one of the most exclusive, with only 6 villas on 130,000 acres. Rates run $950-1,400/night all-inclusive. The reserve has rhino, elephant, lion, and exceptional bird life. Book 6-12 months ahead for the July-October peak.
Malaria prophylaxis is essential for Victoria Falls and Hwange
Malaria is present in all major tourist areas including Victoria Falls, Hwange, Kariba, and the Zambezi Valley. Start prophylaxis before arrival as directed by your doctor. The Eastern Highlands above 1,800m have very low risk. Victoria Falls town has pharmacies selling doxycycline and Malarone locally if you forgot. Yellow fever vaccination certificate may be required if coming from endemic countries.
Hire a guide for Great Zimbabwe ruins
Great Zimbabwe is impressive but hard to interpret without context. Licensed guides at the entrance charge $10-15 for a 90-minute tour. They know the significance of the Great Enclosure's conical tower, the strategic importance of the Hill Complex, and the trade routes that made Zimbabwe one of Africa's medieval superpowers. Entry is $15/person on top of the guide fee.
Câu hỏi thường gặp về khách sạn tại Zimbabwe
Câu trả lời thẳng thắn từ đội ngũ của chúng tôi.
What is the best area to stay in Zimbabwe?
Victoria Falls is the most visited area and deserves its reputation. Victoria Falls Hotel on Mallet Drive is 10 minutes walk from the falls entrance. For wildlife, Hwange National Park is one of Africa's best and more accessible than most. Hwange Safari Lodge is inside the park. For something completely different, the Eastern Highlands near Nyanga have trout streams and cool mountain air in a colonial setting.
Is Zimbabwe safe to visit in 2026?
Zimbabwe is safe for tourists in the main travel areas. Victoria Falls, Hwange, Harare's northern suburbs, and the Eastern Highlands have had stable tourist infrastructure for years. The main practical issues are ATM reliability and fuel availability outside major towns. Keep USD cash on you. Avoid political rallies and demonstrations. The tourist experience at Vic Falls, Hwange, and Great Zimbabwe is genuinely excellent.
Victoria Falls Zimbabwe vs Zambia: which side is better?
Zimbabwe gives the wider panoramic views from Rainforest Road. The path covers the full width of the falls and takes 45-60 minutes to walk. The Zimbabwe side is also better for the bungee jump from the bridge and for helicopter flights over the falls. Zambia gets closer to the Eastern Cataract with more spray. Many visitors with time do both sides on the same day for $20-30 each entry fee.
When is the best time to visit Zimbabwe?
April to October is the dry season and best for wildlife. The peak wildlife months are August and September when waterholes are the main water source. Victoria Falls is most dramatic from March to May when water volume peaks. Hwange is excellent June through October. The Eastern Highlands are pleasant year-round but get misty and wet from November to March.
How do I get around Zimbabwe?
The main tourist routes are well-covered. Victoria Falls town is walkable. Taxis from the airport to town run $5-10. Hwange is 100km from Victoria Falls on a paved road, about 1.5 hours. Harare to Victoria Falls by road is 880km, 8 hours. Fastjet Zimbabwe flies Harare to Victoria Falls daily, about 1 hour, from $60-120 one way. Car hire requires a 4WD for national parks.
What wildlife can I see at Hwange National Park?
Hwange has one of Africa's largest elephant populations, estimated at 44,000. Elephant herds of 200-300 animals gathering at waterholes in September are an extraordinary spectacle. The park also has lion, leopard, wild dog, sable antelope, and black rhino in the Intensive Protection Zone. Hwange Safari Lodge runs twice-daily game drives from $60/person. Night drives from the lodge reveal pangolin, brown hyena, and aardvark with luck.
Is Great Zimbabwe worth visiting?
Great Zimbabwe is one of Africa's most important archaeological sites. A stone city built between the 11th and 15th centuries without mortar, the largest pre-colonial structure in sub-Saharan Africa. The Hill Complex, Valley Ruins, and Great Enclosure cover 1.8 square kilometers. Entry is $15/person. The site is 30km from Masvingo town. Ivory Lodge in Masvingo is the practical base at $55-85/night. Allow half a day minimum.
What is Mana Pools and is it worth visiting?
Mana Pools National Park on the Zambezi River is UNESCO-listed and widely considered Zimbabwe's finest wilderness. Wild dogs, elephants, lions, and hippos along a floodplain with Zambia visible across the river. It is remote. The drive from Harare is 4-5 hours. Canoe safaris on the Zambezi are the signature experience. Most camps here cost $350-600/night all-inclusive. Fly in from Harare if budget allows.
What currency does Zimbabwe use?
Zimbabwe officially uses a multi-currency system in practice dominated by USD. US dollars are accepted everywhere that tourists go. The Zimbabwean Gold (ZiG) currency was introduced in 2024 but USD remains the practical currency for hotels, restaurants, and activity operators. Bring USD cash in $20, $50, and $100 bills. ATMs in Victoria Falls and Harare dispense USD. Tips are given in USD throughout the tourism industry.
What are the best budget options in Zimbabwe?
Victoria Falls has good budget infrastructure. Possum Lodge in Bulawayo runs $45-75/night in a clean guesthouse setting. Ivory Lodge in Masvingo is $55-85/night for the Great Zimbabwe side trip. In Victoria Falls town itself, guesthouses on Parkway Drive range from $50-90/night. Self-catering chalets are available from $60-80/night within 5km of the falls. Budget $100-150/day total for a no-frills Zimbabwe trip.
Are there visa requirements for Zimbabwe?
Most nationalities need a visa. Single-entry costs $30 USD, double-entry is $45. Get it on arrival at Harare International Airport or Victoria Falls Airport, paid in USD. The KAZA Univisa covers both Zimbabwe and Zambia for $50, valid 30 days. Highly recommended if you plan to cross to the Zambian side of Victoria Falls. Most Western, EU, and Commonwealth passport holders are eligible for visa on arrival.
What are the Eastern Highlands and why should I go?
The Eastern Highlands run along the Zimbabwe-Mozambique border, a 300km range of mountains, forests, and waterfalls. Nyanga, Bvumba, and Chimanimani are the three main areas. Troutbeck Resort in Nyanga has been running since 1950. Temperatures are 10 degrees cooler than the lowlands. Mount Nyangani, Zimbabwe's highest peak at 2,592m, is a 5-hour return hike from Nyanga. The area is 4 hours from Harare on a mostly paved road.
