Wellton Riga Old Town Hotel

Nên ở đâu tại Latvia
Khu vực bạn chọn quan trọng hơn bản thân khách sạn.
Riga Old Town: what nobody tells you before you book
Everyone books Old Town because it looks perfect on Instagram. And it is photogenic. cobblestones on Mārstaļu iela, the Daugava riverfront, the Dom Cathedral square at dusk. But Old Town hotels charge a premium for location and sometimes deliver rooms the size of a ferry cabin.
The smarter play: compare what's actually within walking distance before paying the Old Town markup. The Art Nouveau district on Alberta iela is 20 minutes by foot and the hotels there are quieter, larger, and often $40-60/night cheaper. We've seen this mistake hundreds of times. tourists book Old Town expecting a luxury experience and get a tiny, overpriced room.
Jūrmala vs Riga: which base makes sense for you
Jūrmala is Latvia's beach town, 25 km from Riga, and it's genuinely lovely in summer. Majori is the strip to be in. Jomas iela is walkable, lined with cafes and restaurants, and the beach is 5 minutes from your hotel door. Hotels here run $65-95/night in the sweet spot of June-August.
But if you're not beach-focused, staying in Jūrmala makes little sense. The train back to Riga runs until late and costs under €2, but you're still adding 30 minutes each way to everything. Stay in Riga, take a day trip to Jūrmala on a sunny afternoon. Simple.
Sigulda and Cēsis: Latvia's most underrated overnight stop
Most visitors do Sigulda as a day trip from Riga. That's a shame, because staying overnight completely changes it. The cable car over the Gauja valley, the Turaida Castle at sunrise, the forest trails with nobody on them. you get none of that on a rushed day trip. Kolonna Hotel Sigulda sits right in the town centre, 15 minutes walk from the cable car.
Cēsis is even quieter. Hotel Cesis is steps from the medieval castle ruins on Pils laukums, and the town's old guild buildings and craft beer spots make for a genuinely good evening. Rates at both hotels run $100-155/night. For a two-night trip out of Riga, do Sigulda first night, Cēsis second.
Latvia's west coast: Liepāja and Ventspils explained
Both cities are on the Baltic coast and both get overlooked. Liepāja is the wilder of the two. the Karosta district alone (a former Soviet naval base) is worth a half-day. Roze Hotel sits in the city centre, about 15 minutes walk to the main beach and 10 minutes from the Karosta bridge. It's a solid base at $110-160/night.
Ventspils is cleaner, newer, and better for spa breaks. Kurshi Hotel and Spa is the best property in the city, with a real wellness facility attached. The beach is 10 minutes walk from the hotel. These aren't budget destinations, but they're not overpriced either. and in September you get Baltic coast weather without July crowds.
How to avoid Latvia's most common hotel mistakes
First mistake: booking a 'beachfront' hotel in Jūrmala without checking whether it actually faces the beach or the street behind it. Second mistake: assuming all Old Town Riga hotels are the same. Grand Palace on Pils iela and Wellton a few streets away are worlds apart in price and experience. Read the room descriptions, not just the star count.
Third mistake: skipping breakfast comparison. Riga has great café culture on Tērbatas iela and around Miera iela in Purvciems. you can eat a proper Latvian breakfast for €5-8 and skip the €14 hotel buffet entirely. And fourth: travelling in July without booking at least 3 weeks out. Riga fills fast during the Song and Dance Festival years.
Latvia for first-timers: a practical two-night base strategy
Two nights minimum in Riga. Walk the Old Town, climb St. Peter's Church on Skārņu iela for the city view, do the Art Nouveau district on Alberta iela in the afternoon. On day two, take the train to Jūrmala for a beach morning, come back for dinner. This covers the essentials without rushing.
If you've got a third night, add Sigulda. The train from Rīgas Centrālā stacija takes 1.5 hours, and Kolonna Hotel Sigulda is a 5-minute walk from the station. Book your Riga hotel first. it's the tightest market, especially in summer. and fill in the Sigulda leg after.

Latvia's capital does everything from budget to grand, all within walking distance.
Riga is the obvious starting point and for good reason. Old Town (Vecrīga) covers a compact area of cobbled streets between the Dom Cathedral on Doma laukums and the Daugava river. you can walk it end to end in 20 minutes. Hotels here range from $55/night at Wellton to $420/night at Grand Palace, and the quality gap is real.
Centrs, the neighbourhood stretching north from Old Town toward Alberta iela, is the Art Nouveau heartland. This is where Hotel Bergs sits on Elizabetes iela. more refined, quieter at night, and easier to navigate than the Old Town warren. It's a 10-minute walk to the Old Town from here.
Avoid the blocks immediately around Rīgas Centrālā stacija. Budget hotels cluster here for the train access, but the area is scruffy and you'd be walking 25 minutes to Old Town every day. Pay a bit more and stay on the right side of Brīvības bulvāris.

Jūrmala runs along a 26 km stretch of pine-backed beach between the Lielupe River and the Gulf of Riga. Majori is the hub. it's where the train stops, where Jomas iela runs through the town like a slow pedestrian boulevard, and where Hotel Jūrmala sits close to the beach. Everything you need is within a 10-minute walk.
The beach itself is wide, clean, and busiest in July-August when Latvian families descend en masse. Off-season, from late September through April, it's nearly empty. which some people love. Prices at Hotel Jūrmala run $65-95/night, making it one of the better value beach stays in the Baltics.
Skip the far ends of Jūrmala. areas like Ķemeri feel marooned without a car. Dzintari is a fine neighbour to Majori and worth a walk, but Majori is where you want to be based.

Cēsis is smaller, older-feeling, and home to some of Latvia's best craft beer. The medieval castle ruins on Pils laukums are right next to Hotel Cesis. you can see the towers from the car park. Both towns are genuinely pleasant for an overnight stay, not just a rushed photo stop.
These aren't budget destinations but they're honestly priced. Kolonna runs $105-155/night and Hotel Cesis $100-145/night. For what you get. quality rooms, great walking access, good local food. both overdeliver compared to similarly priced Riga Old Town hotels.

Liepāja is the cultural wild card. It has a music scene, a fascinating Soviet military history in Karosta, and a long beach that rivals Jūrmala without the crowds. Roze Hotel is in the city centre, 10 minutes from both the beach and the Karosta bridge. it's a proper city hotel at $110-160/night, not a beachfront resort.
Ventspils is polished, family-friendly, and home to Kurshi Hotel and Spa. the most serious wellness property on our Latvia list. It's on Kuldīgas iela in the city centre, 10 minutes walk to the beach promenade. At $255-390/night, it's the luxury pick on the coast.
Both cities are roughly 3 hours from Riga by bus, so they work better as dedicated stops than day trips. The Lux Express bus to Liepāja costs around €10-16 and is the easiest option. If you're driving, the coastal road between Ventspils and Liepāja through Cape Kolka is one of the best drives in the Baltics.

Valmiera is a medium-sized city in northern Latvia that most international tourists skip entirely. That's exactly why it works. Hotel Valmiera sits in the city centre, close to the Gauja riverbank park that runs through the middle of town. it's a 10-minute walk to the riverside trails and about 5 minutes to the central Rātslaukums square.
The hotel is genuinely family-oriented, which you'll notice in the room layouts and the unpretentious service. Rates of $115-165/night are fair for the comfort level. There's a functional bus and train connection to Riga (about 2 hrs) if you want to combine it with a Riga stay.
Valmiera is also a good base for the northern Gauja valley trails that most visitors don't reach from Sigulda. This is local Latvia. craft brewery on Bebru iela, Soviet-era swimming facilities turned into a proper sports complex, and no souvenir shops on every corner.

Valmiera works well for families. calm, safe, with the Gauja riverbank right in town and a hotel built around the idea. Jūrmala's Majori beach is the other top pick if the kids need sand.
Budget
Wellton Riga Old Town on Kalēju iela puts you inside the Old Town walls for $55-85/night. that's genuinely rare in the Baltics. Walk to everything, skip the taxi, eat at the Central Market on Nēģu iela.
Beach
Jūrmala's Majori is the classic choice. wide sandy beach, pine forest backdrop, and a pedestrian strip that actually works. Hotel Jūrmala is 5 minutes from the water at $65-95/night.

Cách chúng tôi đánh giá những khách sạn này
Mỗi khách sạn trong danh sách này đều trải qua cùng một quy trình đánh giá. Đây là cách chúng tôi chấm điểm.
We reviewed 2,000+ options across the main regions of Latvia. Most got cut fast. The biggest problems here: Riga Old Town hotels charging luxury rates for rooms that haven't been updated since 2008, beach hotels in Jūrmala listing 'sea views' that are actually parking lot views, and spa resorts in Ventspils that look stunning online but feel hollow in person. We also cut anything relying on location alone without delivering on sleep quality, breakfast, or staff. What's left is honest.
Summer (June-August)
This is when Latvia is at its best and most expensive. Jūrmala beach peaks in July, Riga Old Town fills with European city-breakers, and the Latvian Song and Dance Festival (held every 5 years, next in 2028) can push Riga hotels to near-zero availability. Book Riga at least 3-4 weeks out; Jūrmala and coastal spots need 2 weeks minimum in July.
Spring (April-May)
May is the sweet spot. Riga's parks, especially Vērmanes dārzs and Bastejkalns, are green and genuinely lovely. Hotel prices sit well below summer peaks. $65-130/night for solid Riga options. and the city isn't overwhelmed yet. April is fine but pack for rain; it's changeable and Gauja valley trails can be muddy.
Autumn (September-October)
September is arguably the best month to visit Latvia. The Baltic coast is clear, Gauja valley has autumn colour on the forest slopes above Sigulda, and hotel prices drop 20-30% from summer peaks. Liepāja and Ventspils especially shine in September. By October you'll want a jacket, but crowds are nearly gone.
Winter (November-March)
Cold, dark, and cheap. Riga's Christmas market on Doma laukums runs from late November to early January and it's one of the best in the Baltics. that period is the one winter exception when Old Town gets busy and prices tick up slightly. Outside that window, $55-80/night in Riga Old Town is genuinely achievable.
Cách đặt khách sạn tại Latvia
Chiến lược đặt phòng thông minh cho Latvia.
Don't book Old Town Riga without checking the room size
Old Town hotels charge for the postcode. A $150/night room on Mārstaļu iela can be 14 square metres with a window facing a wall. Always check the actual room dimensions in the listing, not just the photos. If it doesn't list the square footage, ask. Centrs hotels on and around Elizabetes iela give you more space for less money and you're still 10-15 minutes walk from the Dom Cathedral.
Use the train to Jūrmala, not a taxi
Taxis from Riga to Jūrmala cost €20-35 depending on traffic. The Riga-Tukums commuter train runs every 30 minutes from Rīgas Centrālā stacija, takes 30 minutes, and costs €1.50-2.20. Get off at Majori or Dzintari. There's no reason to take a taxi unless you have heavy luggage and a hotel without a nearby station.
Book Sigulda weekends at least 2 weeks out in autumn
Sigulda fills fast on autumn weekends, especially October when the Gauja valley colour is at peak. Kolonna Hotel Sigulda has limited rooms and repeat Latvian visitors who book early. If you miss the window, Cēsis is 30 minutes away by car and Hotel Cesis often has availability when Sigulda is sold out. Don't leave this to the last minute.
Latvia's Song and Dance Festival changes everything in Riga
The Latvian Song and Dance Festival is one of the biggest cultural events in the Baltics. 30,000+ performers, 100,000+ spectators. It happens every 5 years (next full festival 2028). If you're visiting Riga during that period, book hotels 2-3 months out and expect $130-200/night for rooms that normally run $70. Check the official schedule at dziesmusvetki.lv before booking.
Eat at Rīga Central Market before you leave
Rīga Central Market on Nēģu iela is one of the largest markets in Europe and it's 10 minutes walk from Old Town. Go for breakfast. fresh rye bread, smoked fish, local dairy. Skip the tourist cafes on Kalķu iela at €15 a plate and spend €5-7 here instead. It's also a great way to understand what Latvians actually eat, not what they serve tourists.
Ventspils and Liepāja reward 2-night stays, not day trips
Both coastal cities are roughly 3 hours from Riga by bus. Going as a day trip means 6 hours on buses for maybe 3-4 hours on the ground. Not worth it. Budget for one or two nights. Roze Hotel in Liepāja at $110-160/night and Kurshi in Ventspils at $255-390/night both justify the detour. The Lux Express bus runs direct to both cities for around €10-16 one way.
Câu hỏi thường gặp về khách sạn tại Latvia
Câu trả lời thẳng thắn từ đội ngũ của chúng tôi.
What's the best area to stay in Riga?
Old Town (Vecrīga) is the obvious choice and it works well. you're within 10 minutes walk of almost everything. But Centrs, specifically around Alberta iela and Elizabetes iela, gives you the Art Nouveau streets, quieter nights, and often lower prices. If budget matters, Centrs runs $55-130/night versus $130-420/night in Old Town.
Is Jūrmala worth staying in instead of Riga?
Yes, if you want the beach. Majori is the best spot. it's right on Jomas iela, the main pedestrian strip, with the beach 5 minutes on foot. The train from Riga's central station takes 30 minutes and costs about €1.50, so you're not sacrificing city access.
When is the cheapest time to visit Latvia?
November through February. Hotels in Riga drop to $55-100/night even in Old Town, and places like Sigulda and Cēsis can go as low as $80-100/night. The trade-off is cold and dark. temperatures hit -10°C in January. But Riga's Christmas market on Doma laukums runs late November through early January and it's genuinely excellent.
How do I get around Latvia without a car?
Riga itself is very walkable. Old Town to the Art Nouveau district on Alberta iela is about 20 minutes on foot. For day trips, trains run to Jūrmala (30 min), Sigulda (1.5 hrs), and Valmiera (2 hrs) from Rīgas Centrālā stacija. Buses are the main option to Liepāja and Ventspils, with routes run by Lux Express and ecolines costing around $8-18 one way.
Are Latvia's hotels worth the price compared to Tallinn or Vilnius?
Riga mid-range hotels run $100-190/night. slightly cheaper than Tallinn, slightly more than Vilnius at the same quality level. The gap closes fast in summer peak, when Old Town Riga can match Tallinn prices. Outside Riga, places like Cēsis and Sigulda deliver solid quality at $100-155/night with no tourist markup.
