Book a hotel on the Matira Beach strip for your first stay so you can walk to the best public beach in French Polynesia without a boat transfer. Hotel Matira and Maitai Polynesia both sit within 5 minutes of Matira Point, and you'll have Vaitape village 15 minutes north by scooter.
Don't skip the lagoon tour on day one. A shared boat tour out of Vaitape dock runs about $80-120 per person and covers shark feeding at the coral gardens, a stop at Motu Tapu, and a ray snorkel session. It's the fastest way to understand why people come back to Bora Bora every year.
