Where to Stay in Seychelles

The neighborhood you pick matters more than the hotel. Here's what you need to know.

How to pick the right island

Mahe is for people who want choice: 30+ hotels, the airport, Victoria market, and Beau Vallon beach. It is also the most crowded island. If your idea of a Seychelles holiday includes a pool bar and 10 restaurant options, stay on Mahe.

Praslin is for beach purists. Anse Lazio is genuinely spectacular and less than 20 minutes from most Praslin hotels. Praslin has fewer options, but the ones that exist are better value than comparable Mahe properties. La Digue is the slowest island on earth. No traffic, no rush. Rent a bike on day one and ride to Anse Source d Argent before breakfast.

Getting around without getting ripped off

Taxis on Mahe have fixed government rates but drivers still try to negotiate. From the airport to Beau Vallon is officially 330 SCR ($25). If a driver quotes you $50, walk to the next one. Buses on Mahe run from Victoria and cost 5-7 SCR ($0.40) to most beaches.

For island hopping, book the Cat Cocos ferry directly at the Victoria harbour ticket office ($40-50 return to Praslin). Hotel concierges will sell you the same ticket for $70. On La Digue, bike rentals run 100 SCR ($7) per day from the jetty.

When luxury makes sense and when it does not

North Island Lodge at $280-520 per night is genuinely elite: 11 villas, private beaches, and no other guests in sight. Four Seasons on Mahe at $390-850 delivers what it promises. Both are worth the price if you want absolute seclusion and are spending 5+ nights.

Mid-range is where Seychelles value falls apart. Several hotels charge $200+ per night for rooms that would be $100 in Thailand. L Archipel on Praslin at $180-260 is one of the exceptions. Check the booking date of recent reviews: Seychelles hotels can slip fast when management changes.

Beaches you should not miss and one you should skip

Anse Lazio (Praslin): arrive before 10am, swim on the left side where the current is calmer. Anse Source d Argent (La Digue): photogenic at any time but genuinely beautiful at sunrise when nobody is there. Petite Anse near Four Seasons Mahe is the best Mahe beach but requires a 25-minute walk from Anse Intendance.

Skip Grand Anse on Mahe near the airport. It looks good on maps but has strong rip currents for most of the year and is littered with development. Beau Vallon is fine but overrated: it is essentially a resort beach with watersports vendors every 50 meters.

Food worth seeking out

Marie Antoinette restaurant in Victoria is a Seychelles institution. Set Creole lunch menu for 350 SCR ($26) with fried breadfruit, shark chutney, and fish curry. It is cash only and closes at 2pm. Get there before 12:30pm or you will wait 30 minutes for a table.

At Beau Vallon beach, La Plage serves grilled wahoo with coconut rice for 220 SCR ($16). For something cheaper, the food stalls at Anse Etoile market (10 minutes north of Victoria) do takeaway curry bags for 100 SCR ($7). Skip every hotel breakfast above $30 and find a local bakery instead.

What to book months ahead

North Island and Four Seasons Mahe: book 6 months ahead for December-January and July-August. Both are small properties that fill completely during European school holidays. L Archipel on Praslin books out 3-4 months ahead for the same periods.

Cat Cocos ferry: book 2 weeks ahead for December-January travel. The 9am Mahe-Praslin ferry fills first. Air Seychelles interisland flights: book 4-6 weeks ahead. Seats are limited and last-minute prices double. Valle de Mai guided tours: no booking needed but go before 9am to avoid the cruise ship groups.

Explore Seychelles by city

We cover 3 destinations across Seychelles. Pick a city for a dedicated hotel guide with neighborhoods, seasonal tips, and our vetted picks.

Seychelles's best hotel regions

Mahe is the transport hub with the most hotel options. Praslin is quieter with white-sand beaches. La Digue is the smallest of the three main islands. no cars, just bikes and slow days.

Mahe 4 vetted hotels

The main island: airport access, most hotels, busiest beaches

Mahe has the infrastructure: international airport, Victoria capital, and about 90% of all hotel rooms in Seychelles. Beau Vallon in the north is the main tourist beach, running 2km with calm water most of the year. The south of the island, around Anse Intendance and Baie Lazare, is quieter and has some of the better mid-range and luxury properties.

Budget travelers can find rooms from $55 a night at Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay. Luxury buyers head straight to Four Seasons at Petite Anse ($390-850). The middle market is crowded but variable in quality. Anse Royale in the southeast cuts prices by 10-15% with no real sacrifice in quality.

Best areas Beau Vallon (north), Baie Lazare (south), Anse Royale (southeast)
Price range $55-850/night
Best for First-time visitors, airport convenience, beach access
Avoid Victoria port area: overpriced, no beach
Best months April-May, October-November

Praslin 3 vetted hotels

White-sand beaches, quieter pace, Valle de Mai UNESCO site

Praslin is the second largest island and home to Anse Lazio, consistently rated among the world's best beaches. It is smaller and quieter than Mahe, with hotel options concentrated around Cote d Or and Grand Anse. The Valle de Mai UNESCO World Heritage site has wild coco de mer palms and takes 2-3 hours to explore properly.

Hotels here run $130-260 per night for mid-range properties. Le Domaine de La Reserve ($130-210) and Acajou Beach Resort ($160-245) are solid picks with direct beach access. Fewer budget options than Mahe, so if price is your priority, stay on Mahe and ferry over for day trips.

Best areas Cote d Or, Anse Lazio area, Grand Anse
Price range $130-260/night
Best for Beach lovers, honeymooners, nature walks
Avoid Grand Anse during May-September (rough surf)
Best months April-May, October-November
Browse all Praslin hotels →
La Digue 1 vetted hotel

No cars, just bikes and the most photogenic beach in Seychelles

La Digue is the smallest of the three main islands and runs on bicycle and ox-cart power. Anse Source d Argent has the granite boulder landscape you have seen in a thousand travel photos. The island has fewer than 10,000 residents and receives no cruise ships, which keeps the pace genuinely slow.

Chateau Morel ($200-310) is the pick for families: 3 bedrooms in a colonial villa with a pool. Smaller guesthouses start around $80 per night. Book everything 3-4 months ahead because the island has limited rooms total. La Digue works best as a 2-3 night addition to a Praslin stay.

Best areas Grand Anse side (quieter), Anse Source d Argent (beaches)
Price range $80-310/night
Best for Slow travel, photography, couples
Avoid Arriving without accommodation booked
Best months April, October

Outer Islands 2 vetted hotels

North Island and exclusive private resorts for serious luxury

The outer islands, including North Island, Silhouette, and Denis Island, are where Seychelles luxury reaches its peak. North Island Lodge has 11 villas, no day-trippers, and its own private beach. You share the island with at most 22 other guests. Conservation programs run alongside the hotel.

Prices start at $280 per night for North Island and climb to $520. These are not value propositions: they are once-in-a-decade splurges or honeymoon budget items. Four Seasons Mahe ($390-850), while technically on Mahe, delivers a similar level of exclusivity with its Petite Anse location.

Best areas North Island, Silhouette Island
Price range $280-850/night
Best for Ultimate luxury, privacy, honeymoons
Avoid Booking without reading 2025-2026 reviews
Best months Year-round (fully climate-controlled)

Best Areas by Vibe

Tell us how you travel and we'll point you to the right part of Seychelles.

Romantic

North Island Lodge has 11 private villas and no other guests around. Four Seasons Petite Anse gives you a secluded beach 10 minutes from your villa. For mid-range romance, L Archipel on Praslin has 30 bungalows right on the beach at Anse Gouvernement, far from the tour group circuit.

Beach

Anse Lazio on Praslin is the reason most people fly 10 hours to get here. 200 meters of granite and pale sand with water that shifts from turquoise to deep blue depending on the light. Get there before 9:30am and you will have it almost to yourself. Anse Source d Argent on La Digue for the boulder landscape shots.

Budget

Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay starts at $55 per night on Mahe with direct beach access. Hanneman Holiday Residence runs $65-95 and is 5 minutes walk from Mahe's main market. Self-catering apartments around Anse Royale cost $40-60. Local buses on Mahe run everywhere for 7 SCR (under $1) and the beaches are the same ones everyone else is paying $200/night to reach.

Family

Chateau Morel on La Digue works well for families: colonial villa layout, 3 bedrooms available, no traffic outside the door. On Mahe, Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay has a kids pool and watersports at flat rates. Praslin has calm lagoon water at Cote d Or beach suited for young children most of the year.

Culture

Victoria on Mahe is the smallest capital city in the world. The market on Saturday morning runs from 6am with fresh fish, tropical fruits, and spices from 20 SCR. The Natural History Museum covers Seychelles endemic wildlife including the Aldabra giant tortoise. L Eglise de Saint-Paul in Victoria has been active since the 1850s.

Foodie

Marie Antoinette restaurant in Victoria is the cultural anchor: Creole set lunch menu with shark chutney, breadfruit, fish curry, and octopus salad for 350 SCR. La Plage at Beau Vallon does grilled wahoo and tuna with coconut rice for $16. The Thursday evening street food market at Beau Vallon runs every week with 15-20 local vendors serving jackfruit curry and fresh grilled fish.

How We Vetted These Hotels

Every hotel on this list went through the same evaluation. Here's exactly how we score them.

We reviewed thousands of stays across Mahe, Praslin, La Digue, and the outer islands. These 10 hotels made the cut based on location quality, guest satisfaction, and honest value for money.

40%

Location Quality

Is the neighborhood walkable? Are restaurants, shops, and attractions within 10 minutes on foot? How does it feel after dark? We evaluate safety, public transport access, and whether the area has genuine local character or just tourist traps. A hotel in the wrong neighborhood ruins a trip. That's why location carries the most weight.

30%

Value for Money

We compare what you pay against what you get. A €150 hotel with a great location, clean rooms, and helpful staff can outscore a €500 hotel with fancy amenities in a bad area. We factor in seasonal pricing, cancellation policies, and hidden costs like tourist tax and breakfast surcharges. The goal is finding the best ratio, not the lowest price.

30%

Guest Experience

We analyze thousands of verified guest reviews across multiple platforms, looking for patterns rather than individual complaints. Consistent praise for cleanliness, staff, and room quality counts. We also assess the intangibles: does the hotel have character? Would you recommend it to a friend? A soul-less chain hotel with perfect facilities still loses to a well-run boutique with personality.

Hotels that score below 8.0 don't make our list. Hotels can't pay for placement. We update scores every quarter based on new reviews. If a hotel's quality drops, it gets removed. Read more about our approach on the about page.

When to Visit Seychelles: Season by Season

Hotel prices, crowds, and weather vary dramatically. Here's what to expect each season.

Windy season

Summer (June-August)

Avg hotel: $80-200/nightCrowds: High (European holidays)Temp: 25-27°C

Southeast trade winds kick in from May and peak in July-August. West-coast beaches like Beau Vallon get rough. East-coast beaches on Mahe (Anse Royale, Anse Forbans) stay calm. Praslin is rough on the Grand Anse side but Anse Lazio stays swimmable most days. Prices drop 10-20% despite it being European summer. La Digue is the most affected island: ferries occasionally cancel in heavy swells.

Second best

Fall (September-November)

Avg hotel: $90-220/nightCrowds: LowTemp: 27-29°C

October-November is the second inter-monsoon period and almost as good as April. The seas calm down, hotel rates are reasonable, and the islands are less crowded than December. November can bring occasional short rain showers but they clear within an hour. This is when local Seychellois holiday internally. Good availability even at popular properties. One of the most underrated windows to visit.

Peak season

Winter (December-February)

Avg hotel: $120-420/nightCrowds: HighTemp: 28-30°C

December and January are peak season: maximum sun, calm northwest seas, and maximum prices. North Island goes from $280 to $520 per night. Four Seasons doubles in price over Christmas week. Book luxury properties 6 months ahead. The northwest monsoon makes Beau Vallon on Mahe flat and calm, perfect for swimming. February is slightly cheaper and less crowded than December-January with similar weather.

How to Book Hotels in Seychelles

Smart booking strategies that save money without sacrificing quality.

Book Praslin hotels 3 months ahead

Praslin has fewer than 30 hotels total. Properties like L Archipel and Le Domaine de La Reserve have 20-30 rooms and sell out completely during April-May and October-November. If you want Praslin in peak season, 3 months minimum. Last-minute options are basically nonexistent.

Use the bus on Mahe, not taxis

Mahe buses run from Victoria clockwise and anticlockwise around the island every 15-30 minutes. Fare is 7 SCR (under $1) to anywhere including Beau Vallon beach. The same journey by taxi costs 200-330 SCR. The bus is slower but the scenery is identical. Grab the route map from the tourist office at Victoria market.

Haggle for boat trip prices

Hotel-booked snorkeling and island excursions at Beau Vallon run $100-150 per person. Walk down to the beach in the morning and negotiate directly with boat operators on the sand. Same trips for $40-60. The boats and guides are often identical. This is not a secret, but most tourists book through their hotel anyway.

Avoid booking Mahe properties without checking which side

Mahe is 28km long. A hotel on the south coast (Baie Lazare, Anse Intendance) is 45 minutes from the airport. A hotel on the north coast (Beau Vallon) is 20 minutes. The island has no ring road: crossing from east to west requires going over a mountain. Check exactly where your hotel sits before booking.

Currency is Seychellois Rupee, not US dollars

Everything in Seychelles is priced in SCR (Seychellois Rupee). Hotels and tour operators quote in USD but pay in SCR at the local rate. ATMs at Victoria and the airport dispense SCR. The official rate is around 13-14 SCR per USD. Avoid currency exchange at airport counters: the bank rate in Victoria is 5-8% better.

North Island needs 3 nights minimum

North Island Lodge is 30 minutes by charter plane from Mahe (included in the room rate). Arriving and leaving each take half a day. Two nights gets you one full day on the island. Three nights is the minimum to justify the journey and the $280-520 per night price. They accommodate maximum 22 guests at once. Availability opens 12 months ahead.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hotels in Seychelles

Straight answers from our team after reviewing hotels across Seychelles.

What is the best island to stay on in Seychelles?

Mahe is the practical choice: Victoria has the airport, Beau Vallon beach is 15 minutes north, and mid-range hotels run $110-220 per night. Praslin is better if you want beaches and quiet. Book at least 3 months ahead for Praslin. La Digue has no cars and only a handful of guesthouses, so book 4 months ahead for high season.

When is the best time to visit Seychelles?

April-May and October-November are the sweet spots. You get calmer seas, temperatures around 27-29 degrees C, and hotel rates 20-30% cheaper than peak season. December-January brings higher winds on the west coast but calmer waters on the east side of Mahe. Avoid August if you hate crowds.

How expensive are hotels in Seychelles?

Budget options on Mahe start around $55-90 per night at Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay. Mid-range at Kempinski Baie Lazare runs $110-220. Luxury on North Island or Four Seasons Mahe starts at $280 and goes to $850 per night. Praslin and La Digue tend to cost 10-15% less than equivalent Mahe properties.

Is Seychelles worth the money?

Only if you book the right islands and skip the overpriced strip near Victoria. Anse Lazio on Praslin is genuinely one of the best beaches on the planet. But many hotels charge Four Seasons prices for three-star service. Check reviews from the last 6 months before booking anything over $200.

What is the best area to stay in Mahe?

Beau Vallon in the north for beach access: the strip runs 2km with clear water. Anse Royale in the southeast for something quieter and 15% cheaper. Avoid the hotel strip directly around Victoria port: you pay a premium for noise and zero beach access.

How do you get between the Seychelles islands?

Praslin is 15 minutes by Air Seychelles from Mahe or 65 minutes by Cat Cocos ferry ($40-50 return). La Digue is a further 15-minute ferry from Praslin ($15 return). Book the ferry in advance for December-January. Interisland flights add $100+ to your budget but save 50 minutes each way.

Do I need a visa for Seychelles?

No. Seychelles is visa-free for all nationalities. You get a 30-day tourist permit on arrival, extendable to 3 months. You need a return ticket and proof of accommodation. Airport tax is included in your ticket. One of the easiest entry processes in the world.

What are the best beaches in Seychelles?

Anse Lazio on Praslin is the benchmark: 200 meters of pale granite and blue water, rarely crowded before 10am. Anse Source d Argent on La Digue has the iconic granite boulders. Get there before 9am or it gets packed. Petite Anse at Four Seasons Mahe is the best beach on Mahe but requires staying at the hotel or walking 20 minutes from Anse Intendance.

Is it safe to swim in Seychelles?

Generally yes. Beau Vallon on Mahe is calm year-round. Anse Lazio and Grand Anse on Praslin can have strong currents from May-September when southeast trade winds blow. Check flags posted by local hotels. The southeast side of Mahe, including Anse Royale, is calmer during that period.

What should I eat in Seychelles?

Creole fish curry is the local staple. Get it at La Plage on Beau Vallon for around 200 SCR ($15). Octopus salad at Le Jardin du Roi in Anse Royale is worth the detour. Skip hotel restaurants for lunch. Marie Antoinette in Victoria has set-menu Creole lunches from 300 SCR that most food guides miss entirely.

Can I visit Seychelles on a budget?

It is harder than most Indian Ocean destinations but possible. Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay starts at $55 a night. Self-catered apartments on Mahe run $40-60. Eating local keeps costs down: bus meals at Anse Etoile market cost under 150 SCR ($11). Book boat trips directly with local operators in Beau Vallon for half the hotel-advertised price.

How many days do I need in Seychelles?

7 nights minimum if you want to see Mahe and Praslin properly. Add 2-3 nights on La Digue if your budget allows. The Vallee de Mai UNESCO site on Praslin needs 2-3 hours. Go before 9:30am before tour groups arrive. North Island needs at least 3 nights to justify the $280+ per night price.
