Auberge Seraphine

Vigie, Castries $55–85/night 7.6/10

Auberge Seraphine sits right on the Vigie Marina, making it one of the better-located budget options in Castries. Rooms are simple but clean, with decent air conditioning and functional bathrooms. The pool area overlooks the harbor, which is a genuine bonus at this price point. Service is friendly and the on-site restaurant offers solid local fare. A good base if you want easy access to the port and city center without spending much.

Hotel San Antoine hotel interior
#2

Hotel San Antoine

The Morne, Castries $75–110/night 7.9/10

Hotel San Antoine is a historic property perched on The Morne above Castries, offering some of the better city views you will find in the area. The building dates back to the colonial era and still carries a lot of that original character. Rooms are modest in size but comfortable, and the garden is well maintained. Getting into the city center requires a car or taxi, which adds up over a long stay. Worth it if you appreciate atmosphere over convenience.

Bay Gardens Hotel hotel interior
#3

Bay Gardens Hotel

Rodney Bay, Castries $110–175/night 8.3/10

Bay Gardens Hotel is located in Rodney Bay, roughly 20 minutes north of central Castries, and it consistently draws repeat visitors. The property has multiple pools, a full-service restaurant, and a lively bar scene most evenings. Rooms are spacious with good air conditioning and comfortable beds. The beach at Reduit is a short walk away, which is the main reason most guests choose this area. It handles families and couples equally well.

Cara Suites Hotel hotel interior
#4

Cara Suites Hotel

Choc Bay, Castries $120–165/night 8/10

Cara Suites sits along the Choc Bay coastline just north of Castries and is a reliable choice for business travelers visiting the island. The rooms are suite-style with kitchenettes, which makes longer stays much more practical. The property has a small beach, a pool, and conference facilities that actually work well for small meetings. The location puts you close to the industrial and commercial zones without being stuck in city traffic. The restaurant is serviceable but not a reason to stay.

Coco Palm Resort hotel interior
#5

Coco Palm Resort

Rodney Bay, Castries $140–220/night 8.5/10

Coco Palm is positioned directly in the heart of Rodney Bay Village, putting shops, restaurants, and the marina within easy walking distance. The design leans tropical and the pool area is genuinely attractive. Rooms range from standard doubles to large suites and the quality is consistent across the board. The staff here stands out as particularly helpful when it comes to arranging tours and transport. This is one of the smarter mid-range picks in the greater Castries area.

Bay Gardens Beach Resort hotel interior
#6

Bay Gardens Beach Resort

Reduit Beach, Castries $160–240/night 8.6/10

Bay Gardens Beach Resort sits directly on Reduit Beach, which is widely considered the best stretch of sand near Castries. The resort has a large pool, kids club, and multiple dining options spread across the property. Rooms are well-appointed and most have ocean or garden views. Families tend to be the core guest here and the layout reflects that with plenty of open space and shallow water entry. Book directly with the hotel for the best room selection.

Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort hotel interior
#7

Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort

Labrelotte Bay, Castries $185–280/night 8.8/10

Windjammer Landing occupies a hillside above Labrelotte Bay, about 10 minutes north of Castries, and the setting is genuinely striking. The villas are spread across the hillside with private plunge pools and panoramic Caribbean views. Getting between areas of the resort involves a lot of walking on steep paths, which some guests find tiring. The beach club at the bottom of the hill is excellent and the snorkeling just offshore is among the best in the area. Couples and honeymooners consistently rate it as a highlight of their trip.

Check Availability
St. Lucia Marriott hotel interior
#8

St. Lucia Marriott

Rodney Bay, Castries $200–320/night 8.9/10

The Marriott property in Rodney Bay delivers consistent quality and is one of the better-run large resorts in the Castries region. The facilities include a full spa, multiple restaurants, a large pool complex, and direct beach access. Rooms are well-sized with modern finishes and reliable air conditioning. The all-inclusive option is worth considering given the quality of the food and drink program. It is a larger resort so the atmosphere can feel busy during peak season.

Sandals Halcyon Beach hotel interior
#9

Sandals Halcyon Beach

Choc Bay, Castries $350–580/night 9.1/10

Sandals Halcyon Beach is the smaller and quieter of the two Sandals properties in St. Lucia, located right on Choc Bay just north of Castries. The all-inclusive model here is genuinely comprehensive, covering dining, premium spirits, watersports, and transfers. Rooms range from garden suites to beachfront butler suites and the quality across all categories is high. The property has a couples-only policy so the atmosphere stays calm and unhurried. Guests also get exchange privileges at the larger Sandals Grande resort nearby.

Sandals Grande St. Lucian Spa and Beach Resort hotel interior
#10

Sandals Grande St. Lucian Spa and Beach Resort

Rodney Bay Peninsula, Castries $450–900/night 9.3/10

Sandals Grande occupies a narrow peninsula at the northern end of Rodney Bay with water on both sides, giving many rooms a dual ocean view that is hard to match anywhere on the island. The overwater bungalows here were the first in the Caribbean and remain one of the most sought-after room categories in St. Lucia. The all-inclusive program covers gourmet dining across nine restaurants, premium liquor, scuba diving, and a full spa facility. The butler service for upper-tier suites is attentive without being intrusive. This is the top end of what the Castries area offers.

Where to Stay in Castries

The neighborhood you pick matters more than the hotel.

Rodney Bay vs. Choc Bay: Which Should You Pick?

Rodney Bay wins on convenience. You've got Reduit Beach walkable from most hotels, Rodney Bay Village for restaurants and bars, and the marina for boat trips to Pigeon Island. It's busier, louder on weekends, and hotel prices reflect that: $110-320/night depending on how close you want to be to the water.

Choc Bay is calmer and a bit more local. It's closer to Castries city, which matters if you're mixing business with leisure or want easier access to the central market on Peynier Street. Hotels here run $120-580/night, with the Sandals all-inclusive on the higher end. For most leisure travelers, Rodney Bay is the right call.

When to Book and When to Wait

December through April is peak season, and Rodney Bay hotels sell out weeks in advance, especially around the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers in November and Jazz Festival in May. If you're traveling between those two bookends, prices drop noticeably. Expect to pay $55-140/night at most of our picks during June-October.

Don't wait past October to book a December trip. We've seen people miss out on Windjammer Landing and Bay Gardens Beach Resort by holding off too long, then settling for a worse property at the same price. Set your dates, then book.

The Real Cost of All-Inclusive vs. Independent

Sandals Halcyon Beach and Sandals Grande charge $350-900/night, but that covers three meals, drinks, and most activities. If you eat out twice a day at restaurants on Reduit Beach Avenue or Rodney Bay Village, you're spending $60-100 per person per day before a single cocktail. The all-inclusive math works if you stay put.

The problem is Saint Lucia is too good to stay put. Soufrière is 1.5 hours south, Pigeon Island is 15 minutes by boat from the marina, and the Friday night street party in Gros Islet village is the kind of thing you'll regret skipping. Independent hotels give you that flexibility without the guilt of a prepaid dinner going to waste.

How to Get Around Without Renting a Car

Minibuses are the local standard and they're cheap. The Castries to Rodney Bay route runs constantly from around 6 am to 8 pm, picking up and dropping off along the John Compton Highway. Fare is $1.50-2 EC per person. Taxis are unmetered, so agree on a price before you get in. Castries to Rodney Bay should be $20-25; anything over $30 is too much.

For day trips south toward Soufrière or Vieux Fort, a rental car or organized tour makes more sense. Roads through the Barre de l'Isle rainforest are narrow and winding. Most hotels can arrange a driver for $80-120 for a full-day island tour, which honestly isn't bad split between two people.

Areas to Skip (And Why)

Central Castries right around Bridge Street and Laborie Street is fine during the day but not where you want to base yourself for a leisure trip. The guesthouses there are cheap for a reason: street noise starts early, it's a working city neighborhood, and the beach is a 20-minute drive away. Save the area for a morning visit to the market on Peynier Street.

The stretch of highway accommodation north of Choc Bay but south of Rodney Bay is also a trap. A few smaller properties advertise reasonable prices but sit between a busy road and a narrow strip of non-swimmable bay. You'd need a taxi for everything. Spend $20-30 more per night and get yourself into Rodney Bay proper.

The Morne and Vigie: Worth Considering?

These two areas sit south and west of central Castries and offer something the beach hotels don't: quiet, elevation, and actual character. Hotel San Antoine on The Morne is a converted colonial great house about 10 minutes above the city. Auberge Seraphine in Vigie overlooks the yacht basin and is genuinely pleasant for the price. Neither is beachfront, but both have personality.

The tradeoff is access. Getting to Reduit Beach from The Morne costs $25-30 in a taxi each way. If beach time is your priority, stay in Rodney Bay and save yourself the logistics. But if you want a peaceful base with a local feel and don't mind driving or taking taxis, these neighborhoods punch above their weight.

Castries's best neighborhoods

Rodney Bay is where most people should start their search. It's got the beach access, the dining strip on Reduit Beach Avenue, and the widest spread of hotel quality. If you want quiet and a bit more character, The Morne and Vigie are worth considering, but know what you're trading off.

Rodney Bay & Reduit Beach 3 vetted hotels

The social hub of northern Saint Lucia, with the best beach access.

Rodney Bay is where most visitors end up, and for good reason. Reduit Beach is consistently one of the calmest and cleanest stretches of sand on the island, and Rodney Bay Village has enough restaurants, bars, and grocery stores that you never feel stranded. The marina is a short walk from most hotels and runs boat trips to Pigeon Island all day.

Prices here reflect the demand. Budget nothing under $110/night if you want something decent; the better options like Bay Gardens Hotel, Coco Palm, and the St. Lucia Marriott cluster between $110-320/night. Bay Gardens Beach Resort on Reduit Beach itself is the family anchor. The Marriott is the premium non-all-inclusive choice.

Weekends get loud around Rodney Bay Village, especially Friday nights when the Gros Islet street party draws a crowd. If you're a light sleeper, ask for a room facing away from the road at Bay Gardens or Coco Palm. That detail matters more than the hotel star rating.

Best areas Reduit Beach, Rodney Bay Village, Marina
Price range $110-320/night
Best for Families, couples, first-time visitors
Avoid Highway-facing rooms at any property on this strip
Best months November-April
Choc Bay 2 vetted hotels

Quieter than Rodney Bay, closer to the city, and home to one serious all-inclusive.

Choc Bay sits about halfway between Castries city center and Rodney Bay, right off the John Compton Highway. It's not a scene the way Rodney Bay is. But that's partly why it works for business travelers and couples who'd rather skip the crowds. Cara Suites Hotel handles the corporate market well, with meeting facilities and easy airport transfer access.

Sandals Halcyon Beach is the all-inclusive flagship here. It's adults-only, with a proper beach, multiple pools, and dining options you won't exhaust in a week. At $350-580/night, it's the most expensive non-Sandals-Grande option in our list, and it earns that price for the right kind of traveler.

Getting to Rodney Bay from Choc Bay is easy: a minibus takes 10-15 minutes for $1.50 EC, or $15 in a taxi. Central Castries is even closer, about 10 minutes south. The bay itself is swimmable but narrower and less impressive than Reduit. Know that going in.

Best areas Choc Bay waterfront, John Compton Highway corridor
Price range $120-580/night
Best for Business travelers, couples, all-inclusive seekers
Avoid Expecting Rodney Bay energy. it's much quieter here
Best months December-March
Vigie & The Morne 2 vetted hotels

Character over convenience. best for travelers who want atmosphere on a budget.

Vigie is a peninsula north of Castries city center, home to the small domestic airport and the Vigie Beach strip. Auberge Seraphine sits right on the marina here, with views over the boat basin and the city skyline behind it. It's the best budget pick in the whole area, at $55-85/night, and genuinely comfortable despite the price.

The Morne is the forested hill directly above Castries, with colonial-era military fortifications at the top near Morne Fortune. Hotel San Antoine occupies a historic property up here, with a pool terrace that overlooks the harbor. It's a 10-minute drive to the city center and 25 minutes to Rodney Bay, so you need to be comfortable with taxis or renting a car.

These two neighborhoods are best for travelers who prioritize a sense of place over beach proximity. You won't stumble to the sand after breakfast. But you also won't be sharing a pool with 200 other tourists, and that's worth something.

Best areas Vigie Marina, Morne Fortune hillside
Price range $55-110/night
Best for Budget travelers, history buffs, solo travelers
Avoid If beach access without taxis is a priority
Best months January-April
Labrelotte Bay & Rodney Bay Peninsula 2 vetted hotels

The luxury tier. villa-style privacy or full-service all-inclusive grandeur.

Labrelotte Bay is a quieter cove just south of Rodney Bay proper, where Windjammer Landing sits on a hillside above the water. It's villa accommodation, meaning you get your own plunge pool and kitchen setup in most room categories. Rates run $185-280/night. It's romantic without being over-the-top, and the views from the upper villas are genuinely spectacular.

Rodney Bay Peninsula juts out into the water just north of the main bay, and that's where Sandals Grande occupies a prime stretch of beach on both the Caribbean and Atlantic sides. At $450-900/night, it's the most expensive property in our list, and the most comprehensive. Butler service, over-water walkways, and a spa that's worth the afternoon even if you're not a spa person.

Getting off-site from either property takes effort. Windjammer has a water taxi to Rodney Bay Village for easy access. Sandals Grande is more self-contained by design. Budget a $20-25 taxi each way if you want to explore independently from either location.

Best areas Labrelotte Bay hillside, Rodney Bay Peninsula tip
Price range $185-900/night
Best for Honeymooners, luxury travelers, all-inclusive enthusiasts
Avoid If you need walkable access to restaurants and bars
Best months December-May

Best Areas by Vibe

Tell us how you travel and we'll point you to the right part of Castries.

Romantic Stay

Labrelotte Bay is the call. Windjammer Landing's hilltop villas have private plunge pools and zero crowds, and Sandals Grande on Rodney Bay Peninsula doubles down with butler service and beachside dining.

Culture & History

The Morne is where you want to be. Hotel San Antoine is a restored colonial property, 5 minutes from the Morne Fortune fortifications and 15 minutes from Derek Walcott Square in central Castries.

Family Friendly

Reduit Beach is the anchor. Bay Gardens Beach Resort sits right on the sand, with calm water for kids and Rodney Bay Village a 10-minute walk away for groceries and casual dinners.

Budget Travel

Vigie is your neighborhood. Auberge Seraphine runs $55-85/night, overlooks the yacht marina, and puts you 10 minutes by minibus from central Castries without paying Rodney Bay prices.

Beach Life

Rodney Bay and Reduit Beach are the obvious answer: calm Caribbean water, sunbeds at most hotels, and beach bars along the strip that keep things going well past sunset.

Foodie Scene

Rodney Bay Village concentrates the best restaurants in the north, from The Edge on Rodney Bay Marina for seafood to Buzz on Reduit Beach Avenue for a proper sit-down dinner within walking distance of most hotels.

40%

Location Quality

Is the neighborhood walkable? Are restaurants, shops, and attractions within 10 minutes on foot? How does it feel after dark? We evaluate safety, public transport access, and whether the area has genuine local character or just tourist traps. A hotel in the wrong neighborhood ruins a trip. That's why location carries the most weight.

30%

Value for Money

We compare what you pay against what you get. A €150 hotel with a great location, clean rooms, and helpful staff can outscore a €500 hotel with fancy amenities in a bad area. We factor in seasonal pricing, cancellation policies, and hidden costs like tourist tax and breakfast surcharges. The goal is finding the best ratio, not the lowest price.

30%

Guest Experience

We analyze thousands of verified guest reviews across multiple platforms, looking for patterns rather than individual complaints. Consistent praise for cleanliness, staff, and room quality counts. We also assess the intangibles: does the hotel have character? Would you recommend it to a friend? A soul-less chain hotel with perfect facilities still loses to a well-run boutique with personality.

When to Visit Castries

When to visit Castries and what to pay.

Peak

Peak Season (Dec-Apr)

Avg hotel: $175-580/nightCrowds: HighTemp: 25-29°C

This is when everyone shows up, and hotel rates reflect it hard. Rodney Bay fills up fast around Christmas and New Year, with some properties requiring 5-night minimums. The Atlantic Rally for Cruisers arrives in November and bleeds into December, turning Rodney Bay Marina into a proper scene. Book 3-4 months out minimum for anything decent.

Warming Up

Shoulder Season (May-Jun)

Avg hotel: $90-220/nightCrowds: LowTemp: 26-30°C

May kicks off with the Jazz Festival at Pigeon Island, which causes a brief price spike before things settle down. June starts the low season transition, with lighter crowds and noticeably cheaper rates across Rodney Bay and Choc Bay. Rain picks up toward late June but mornings are usually fine. This is when you'll find Coco Palm and Bay Gardens at their most negotiable on price.

Budget Friendly

Low Season (Jul-Nov)

Avg hotel: $55-175/nightCrowds: LowTemp: 27-31°C

Hurricane season runs through this stretch, though Saint Lucia sits south of the main hurricane belt and sees fewer direct hits than islands further north. Prices drop 30-40% at most of our picks, making Windjammer Landing and Bay Gardens Beach Resort genuinely accessible at $185-200/night. Afternoons bring brief showers, but the tradeoff is virtually empty beaches and no wait for anything.

Booking Tips for Castries

Insider tips for booking hotels in Castries.

Skip the Castries city center hotels

Guesthouses near Bridge Street and the Castries Market run $40-60/night, which sounds tempting. But you're in a working port city neighborhood with no beach access, street noise from 5 am, and a 20-minute taxi ride to Reduit Beach every time you want sand. Spend $20-30 more and start in Vigie or go straight to Rodney Bay.

Negotiate taxi fares before you get in

Saint Lucia taxis are unmetered. Castries to Rodney Bay should be $20-25; Castries to Hewanorra Airport is $80-100. Anything significantly above those numbers is a tourist markup. Your hotel's front desk can give you a current rate card. ask them, it takes 30 seconds and saves the awkward conversation on the road.

Book Sandals at least 90 days out for December

Both Sandals properties sell out their best room categories by September for the December-January window. If you're set on Sandals Grande or Halcyon Beach for the holidays, waiting for a deal that doesn't exist will leave you in a worse room at the same rate. Set your dates and book. Prices don't meaningfully drop closer to travel.

The Gros Islet Friday night party is worth your evening

Every Friday, the village of Gros Islet, about 15 minutes north of Rodney Bay, runs an open-air street party with grilled fish, rum punch, and local music. It starts around 10 pm and costs next to nothing. A taxi from Rodney Bay runs $10-12 each way. If you're staying in Rodney Bay area, missing this is a genuine shame.

Ask your hotel about water taxi options

Windjammer Landing and some Rodney Bay properties offer water taxi service to the marina and beach strip. It's faster than a road taxi during busy weekends, and usually $5-10 per trip. This is especially useful if you're based in Labrelotte Bay and want to spend an evening in Rodney Bay Village without watching the clock for a taxi.

Jazz Festival week means 20-30% higher hotel rates

The Saint Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival, typically held at Pigeon Island in early May, drives up prices across Rodney Bay and Choc Bay for that entire week. If you're not going for the festival, move your dates by 7-10 days and save $30-60/night across most of our mid-range picks. If you are going for it, book rooms before February.

Hotels in Castries — FAQ

Everything you need to know before booking hotels in Castries.

What's the best area to stay in Castries?

Rodney Bay is the sweet spot for most travelers. You're within walking distance of Reduit Beach, the marina, and a solid stretch of restaurants along Reduit Beach Avenue. If budget is the priority, Vigie works fine and keeps you closer to the city center, about 10 minutes by taxi from Castries port.

How much do hotels in Castries cost per night?

It ranges a lot. Budget options like Auberge Seraphine in Vigie run $55-85/night. Mid-range picks in Rodney Bay and Choc Bay sit at $110-220/night. Luxury all-inclusives like Sandals Grande on Rodney Bay Peninsula go $450-900/night, and that covers meals and drinks, which changes the math considerably.

Is Rodney Bay worth the higher hotel prices?

Yes, for most people. You're getting walkable beach access at Reduit Beach, the marina strip for dining, and easy minibus connections south toward Castries for about $1.50 EC. Hotels here run $110-320/night depending on the brand, but you won't be paying for taxis every time you want a decent meal.

What's the cheapest time to visit Castries?

May through October is low season. Hotel prices can drop 30-40% compared to December peaks, and you're looking at $55-140/night across most of our picks. June and July see occasional rain, but the mornings are usually clear. Hurricane season technically runs June through November, but direct hits on Saint Lucia are rare.

Are there good family hotels near Castries?

Bay Gardens Beach Resort on Reduit Beach is the best family option in the area. It's right on the sand, has a proper kids' pool, and the beach itself is calm enough for young swimmers. It runs $160-240/night, and Rodney Bay Village with its grocery stores and casual restaurants is a 10-minute walk from the front entrance.

Is it safe to walk around Castries at night?

Central Castries near Derek Walcott Square and Peynier Street gets quieter and less comfortable after dark. Stick to Rodney Bay Village or Reduit Beach Avenue at night, where there's foot traffic, restaurants, and better lighting. If you're staying in central Castries, budget $10-15 for a taxi back after 9 pm.

How do I get from Hewanorra International Airport to Castries hotels?

Hewanorra is in Vieux Fort, about 68 km south of Castries. A private taxi runs $80-100 and takes around 90 minutes. The shared minibus option exists but takes longer and isn't practical with luggage. Some luxury resorts like Sandals Grande offer helicopter transfers from Hewanorra for a premium, cutting travel time to under 15 minutes.

What's Choc Bay like for hotels?

Choc Bay sits between Castries city and Rodney Bay, about 10 minutes north of the capital on the John Compton Highway. It's quieter than Rodney Bay and a bit more local in feel. Cara Suites is the business-focused pick here, and Sandals Halcyon Beach is the all-inclusive option, both on or near the waterfront.

Is it worth staying at an all-inclusive in Castries?

Only if you genuinely plan to stay on the property most days. Sandals Halcyon and Sandals Grande both run $350-900/night all-in, and that includes food, drinks, and watersports. But if you want to explore Pigeon Island, eat at restaurants in Rodney Bay Village, or take a day trip to Soufrière, you're paying for meals you're skipping.

Which hotels in Castries are best for a romantic trip?

Windjammer Landing in Labrelotte Bay is the most romantic non-Sandals option. It's villa-style accommodation on a hillside above the water, quieter than Rodney Bay, and about 15 minutes from the marina by car. Rates run $185-280/night. Sandals Grande on Rodney Bay Peninsula is the full-luxury couples play at $450-900/night, with butler service on upper tiers.

How far is Rodney Bay from central Castries?

About 8 km north, which is 20-30 minutes by road depending on traffic on the John Compton Highway. Minibuses run this route constantly for about $1.50-2 EC per seat. Taxis charge roughly $20-25 for the same trip. During the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers in November, traffic near the marina can add 10-15 minutes.

Are there hotels close to Castries city center?

Auberge Seraphine in Vigie is the closest vetted pick, about 10 minutes walk from the Castries port and La Place Carenage shopping area. It's on the Vigie peninsula overlooking the marina, which gives it a decent view and relatively easy access to the city without being in the thick of the noise on Bridge Street.
