Where to Stay in Side

The neighborhood you pick matters more than the hotel.

The Old Town Peninsula: Where History Meets the Sea

The Side old town is a narrow peninsula jutting into the Mediterranean. Roman columns stand between souvenir shops. The Temple of Apollo (2nd century AD) is right on the seafront at the tip. This is the reason to come here.

Hotels on Barbaros Caddesi and Liman Caddesi are within 5 minutes walk of everything. Guesthouses in converted Ottoman and Greek houses start at $55/night. The car-free atmosphere after 9pm is genuinely pleasant.

The Resort Zone: Kumköy to Evrenseki

The 8km resort strip east of Side is a different world. Massive all-inclusives behind private beaches. The road (D400 highway) runs behind them and is noisy. All the resorts face the sea.

Sorgun Beach (3-5km from old town) is lined with umbrella pines and is unusually attractive for a resort beach. The Acanthus & Cennet Resort at Sorgun is one of the better large properties.

Boat Trips: What's Worth Taking

Pirate boats leave the old town harbour every morning at 10am ($15-25/person) doing the bay, caves, and a swim stop. Full-day Manavgat River trips are $20-30 and include the waterfall and bazaar.

Private boat hire for smaller groups costs $150-250 for half a day. The harbour at Side is well-organized. Boat tours include lunch on some longer routes.

Ruins without the Crowds

The Temple of Apollo gets crowded 10am-4pm in summer. Go at sunrise or sunset. The Side Amphitheatre (capacity 15,000) is best visited mid-morning before tour groups arrive. Entry is $5.

The Side Museum on the main road is genuinely world-class for a small town museum. Medusa heads, sarcophagi, and busts from the 2nd-3rd century. Entry $3, closed Monday.

Eating in Side: Old Town vs Resort

Old town restaurants on the back streets (Zambak Sokak, Gül Sokak) serve proper Turkish food at $8-15/main. The harbour fish restaurants are atmospheric but 30% more expensive.

Resort dining is included in the all-inclusive price. If you're staying all-inclusive, one dinner out in the old town (20 minutes by taxi, $8 each way) gives you a night off the buffet and a proper meze spread.

Day Trips from Side

Aspendos Roman Theatre is the best-preserved in the ancient world. 30km north of Side. Taxi there and back is $40-50 including waiting time. Open 8am-7pm, entry $10.

Alanya is 65km east and worth a half-day: the Seljuk castle on the headland and the Red Tower are dramatic. Manavgat town (20km north) has a Tuesday market and waterfall. Perge ruins are 50km west.

Side's best neighborhoods

The old town peninsula is for culture and atmosphere. The resort strip east of town (Kumköy, Evrenseki) is for beach and all-inclusive packages.

Old Town Peninsula 4 vetted hotels

Roman ruins at your doorstep, pedestrian streets

The old town is compact and entirely walkable. Hotels on Barbaros Caddesi and Liman Caddesi are central. The Temple of Apollo is 5 minutes walk from anywhere in the old town.

Quieter than the resorts. More local atmosphere. Better restaurant access. Perfect for culture-focused visits of 3-5 days.

Best for History, culture, authentic Turkey
Avoid Rooms on the main D400 road
Best months Apr-Jun, Sep-Oct

Mid-size resorts, access to both old town and beach

Kumköy is the nearest resort area to the old town. Hotels here are medium-sized (200-500 rooms) and the beach is excellent. Dolmuş (minibus) connections to old town run every 10 minutes.

Better value than central Side for beach-focused stays. More personal than the mega-resorts further east.

Best areas Beachfront along Kumköy
Price range $90-220/night (all-inclusive)
Best for Beach, families, moderate budgets
Avoid Rooms on the highway side
Best months May-Oct
Evrenseki / Titreyengöl (6-8km East) 3 vetted hotels

Large all-inclusive resorts on pine-backed Sorgun Beach

Evrenseki and Titreyengöl have the biggest resorts. Sorgun Beach here is lined with umbrella pines and is unusually scenic. The Acanthus & Cennet and Rixos are both in this zone.

Further from the old town (20-minute taxi) but the beach quality is higher. Titreyengöl lake is adjacent to some resorts and has reed beds and flamingos.

Best areas Sorgun Beach frontage
Price range $140-350/person/night (all-inclusive)
Best for Full beach holidays, luxury all-inclusive
Avoid Inland properties away from the beach
Best months Jun-Sep

Best Areas by Vibe

Tell us how you travel and we'll point you to the right part of Side.

Romantic

Sunset dinner at a terrace restaurant above the Temple of Apollo. Boutique hotels in the old town with sea views. The harbour at dusk is genuinely cinematic.

Culture

Temple of Apollo, Side Amphitheatre, the Side Museum. All within 10 minutes walk in the old town. Day trips to Aspendos (30km) and Perge (50km) for more Roman archaeology.

Family

East coast resorts have kids clubs, gentle beach gradients, and nonstop entertainment. Sorgun Beach is shallow and calm. The ruins fascinate children who've studied ancient Rome.

Budget

Old town guesthouses from $45/night. Dolmuş buses to the beach cost $1. Restaurant meals $8-15. Side is significantly cheaper than Bodrum or Çeşme for comparable coast.

Old town back streets for proper pide and meze. The Tuesday Manavgat market (20km north) for fresh produce. Harbour restaurants for fresh fish. Skip the buffet at least one night.

40%

Location Quality

Is the neighborhood walkable? Are restaurants, shops, and attractions within 10 minutes on foot? How does it feel after dark? We evaluate safety, public transport access, and whether the area has genuine local character or just tourist traps. A hotel in the wrong neighborhood ruins a trip. That's why location carries the most weight.

30%

Value for Money

We compare what you pay against what you get. A €150 hotel with a great location, clean rooms, and helpful staff can outscore a €500 hotel with fancy amenities in a bad area. We factor in seasonal pricing, cancellation policies, and hidden costs like tourist tax and breakfast surcharges. The goal is finding the best ratio, not the lowest price.

30%

Guest Experience

We analyze thousands of verified guest reviews across multiple platforms, looking for patterns rather than individual complaints. Consistent praise for cleanliness, staff, and room quality counts. We also assess the intangibles: does the hotel have character? Would you recommend it to a friend? A soul-less chain hotel with perfect facilities still loses to a well-run boutique with personality.

Booking Tips for Side

Insider tips for booking hotels in Side.

Avoid the main D400 road for sleeping

The highway runs behind the resort strip. Rooms facing the road get truck noise from 5am. Always confirm your room faces the sea or garden. Worth specifically requesting at booking.

All-inclusive drink quality varies significantly

Turkish domestic spirits and local wines are included. International brands cost extra $5-10/drink. Beer quality is usually fine (Efes or Tuborg). If you care about wine, check what's included before booking.

Dolmuş buses connect everything cheaply

The dolmuş (shared minibus) runs along the D400 from Side old town to Manavgat every 10-15 minutes. Costs $0.50-1.50. Faster and cheaper than taxis for short hops between resort zones.

Book Aspendos ballet festival early

The Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival runs June-July at the ancient theatre. Tickets $30-60 and sell out weeks ahead. Watching ballet in a 2,000-year-old Roman theatre is extraordinary.

Negotiate boat tours at the harbour

Pirate boat tours have fixed prices on a board at the harbour ($15-25). But for private hire, negotiate. Groups of 6+ can charter a boat for half a day at $150-200 total, cheaper per person than group tours.

Side Museum is criminally undervisited

The museum houses one of Turkey's best collections of Hellenistic and Roman sculpture outside Istanbul. Entry $3. Closed Monday. Takes 90 minutes. Almost no queues. Do it before or after the Apollo Temple.

Hotels in Side — FAQ

Everything you need to know before booking hotels in Side.

Should I stay in the Side old town or the resort zone?

Old town for ruins, atmosphere, and genuine Turkish restaurants. Resort zone (Kumköy, Evrenseki, Titreyengöl) for beach, pools, and all-inclusive. The old town peninsula is car-free. The resort strip is 3-8km east along the D400 highway.

When is the best time to visit Side?

May and October are ideal. July and August hit 38°C and the beach gets crowded. The Temple of Apollo is more photogenic at sunrise in April than midday in August. Side is essentially a ghost town November through March.

How much do Side hotels cost?

Old town guesthouses: $45-90/night. Mid-range sea view hotels: $110-200/night. Resort all-inclusives: $140-280/person/night (including food and drinks). The all-inclusive price looks expensive until you factor in 3 meals plus drinks.

Is the old town safe to walk at night?

Yes. The old town peninsula is pedestrian-only and very safe. The main street Liman Caddesi has restaurants and shops until midnight in season. The beach at the tip of the peninsula near the Apollo Temple is popular for evening walks.

What are the main beaches near Side hotels?

West Beach (near the old town) is smaller and within walking distance of the ruins. East Beach (Sorgun) stretches 15km and is where all the big resorts are. Sorgun Beach itself is backed by pine forest, genuinely beautiful.

Can I visit Aspendos and Perge from Side?

Yes, both are day trips. Aspendos theatre is 30km north (taxi $40 return or bus to Serik then dolmuş). Perge ruins are 50km. Alanya is 65km east. Book a car from Side centre for $35-50/day for flexible access.

Do Side resorts include everything?

Most Turkish all-inclusives in Side include unlimited food, local drinks (beer, wine, spirits), snacks, water sports equipment, and entertainment. Premium brands cost $180-280/person/night but international drinks and excursions are extra.

How far is Side from Antalya airport?

Antalya airport (AYT) is 65km west of Side. Transfer by shuttle bus takes 75-90 minutes and costs $15-25. Taxi is $50-70. Free transfers are included with most package holidays. No trains or public buses from the airport.

What is there to do in Side beyond the beach?

The Side Museum houses excellent Roman statuary ($3 entry). The Apollo Temple at sunset is unmissable. Boat trips to Manavgat Waterfall and river ($20-30) depart from the harbour. The Manavgat Market is Tuesday mornings.

Are there decent restaurants outside the resorts?

Yes. Liman Caddesi in the old town has Turkish and international restaurants at normal prices ($10-20/main). The harbour area has fish restaurants. Avoid the obvious tourist traps near the temple entrance. Walk one street back for better food.

Is Side good for families with young children?

Excellent. The east coast resorts have kids clubs, shallow pools, and entertainment programmes. Sorgun Beach has shallow, calm water. The old town ruins are walkable and fascinating for children. Minimum 5 nights makes sense given the transfer time.

What currency and payment do Side hotels use?

Turkish Lira (TRY) for local restaurants and markets. Euro and GBP accepted at most resorts and many old town hotels. ATMs at the PTT post office on the main road. Card payment is widely accepted at hotels; cash preferred at markets.
