Garden Villa Hotel hotel interior
#2

Garden Villa Hotel

Harmon, Tamuning $75–110/night 7.2/10

The Garden Villa is a locally run property in the Harmon area of Tamuning, a short drive from Tumon Bay but away from the resort strip prices. Rooms are spacious for the rate and include basic kitchenette setups, which helps cut down on dining costs. The outdoor pool is small but maintained, and the staff are genuinely helpful with directions and local tips. It is a practical choice for families or longer stays who do not need beachfront access every morning.

#3

Pacific Islands Club Guam

Tumon Bay, Tumon $120–200/night 8.1/10

PIC sits right on Tumon Bay and is built around an enormous water park, making it one of the best family resorts on the island. The facilities include multiple pools, a lazy river, and direct beach access on one of Guam's cleanest stretches of sand. Rooms are comfortable and well-maintained, though the decor is starting to show its age in some blocks. The all-inclusive upgrade is worth considering because the resort restaurants are pricey on their own.

Check Availability
Lotte Hotel Guam hotel interior
#4

Lotte Hotel Guam

Tumon Bay, Tumon $145–230/night 8.5/10

Lotte Hotel occupies a central spot on Tumon's main strip and draws a heavy Korean and Japanese tourist crowd given the brand's origins. The lobby is polished and the rooms are modern, with large windows offering solid ocean or hillside views depending on your floor. Dining options inside the hotel are genuinely good, especially the Japanese restaurant on the upper floors. The beach access out front puts you right on Tumon Bay, steps from the duty-free shopping corridor.

Hyatt Regency Guam hotel interior
#5

Hyatt Regency Guam

Tumon Bay, Tumon $160–260/night 8.7/10

The Hyatt Regency is consistently one of the top-performing hotels on the island, with a beachfront position in the heart of Tumon Bay. The pool area is well designed and the rooms are among the most reliably comfortable on Guam, with frequent renovations keeping the interiors fresh. Service levels are noticeably higher than most competitors on the strip. The on-site restaurants, particularly Cafe on the Bay, are a genuine highlight rather than a convenience afterthought.

Check Availability
Guam Reef Hotel hotel interior
#6

Guam Reef Hotel

Gun Beach Road, Tumon $130–195/night 7.9/10

The Guam Reef sits at the quieter northern end of Tumon near Gun Beach, giving it a slightly more relaxed atmosphere than the crowded central strip. The hotel has direct beach access and the snorkeling just off the property is some of the best near Tumon. Rooms are mid-tier in quality but the ocean-facing balconies make up for a lot. The pool deck is a strong spot for sunsets and the hotel's proximity to Gun Beach means fewer crowds in the water.

Check Availability
Westin Resort Guam hotel interior
#7

Westin Resort Guam

Tumon Bay, Tumon $175–255/night 8.6/10

The Westin brings its signature Heavenly Bed setup to Tumon Bay and the sleep quality here genuinely stands out compared to other island properties. The hotel has a calm, adult-leaning atmosphere compared to the more family-chaotic resorts nearby. The infinity-style pool overlooking the bay is one of the most photogenic spots in Guam. Couples tend to return here specifically because the staff are attentive without being intrusive.

Check Availability
Outrigger Guam Beach Resort hotel interior
#8

Outrigger Guam Beach Resort

Tumon Bay, Tumon $150–220/night 8.3/10

The Outrigger sits on a solid stretch of Tumon Bay beach and tends to attract travelers who want beachfront quality without paying flagship luxury prices. The Hawaiian-influenced design gives it a warmer, more laid-back feel than the larger Korean-chain competitors nearby. Rooms are bright and well-proportioned, and the beach chairs out front are rarely as packed as those at PIC or the Hyatt. The swim-up bar is a legitimately fun feature that works well for the island setting.

Check Availability
Dusit Thani Guam Resort hotel interior
#9

Dusit Thani Guam Resort

Tumon Bay, Tumon $260–420/night 9/10

The Dusit Thani is the most polished luxury option currently operating in Tumon, with Thai-influenced design aesthetics that feel genuinely refined rather than generic. The rooms are large, the bathrooms are excellent, and the cliff-side pool area offers some of the best views anywhere on Guam's west coast. The Thai restaurant on property is exceptional and worth dining at even if you are staying elsewhere. Service is attentive and consistent in a way that most Guam hotels cannot quite match.

Check Availability
The Tsubaki Tower hotel interior
#10

The Tsubaki Tower

Tumon Bay, Tumon $300–500/night 9.2/10

The Tsubaki Tower opened as Guam's most ambitious luxury property and has delivered on that promise with consistently high service scores since launch. The rooms are the largest and most thoughtfully designed on the island, featuring deep soaking tubs and panoramic ocean views from upper floors. The dining program across multiple restaurants is genuinely world-class by Pacific island standards. It sits on Tumon Bay near the DFS Galleria and is the clear first choice for travelers who want the best Guam has to offer without compromise.

Where to Stay in Guam

The neighborhood you pick matters more than the hotel. Here's what you need to know.

First-timer's guide to picking your Guam base

Almost everyone should start in Tumon Bay. Pale San Vitores Road is the spine of the tourist zone, and for good reason: beach is 5 minutes west, restaurants are right outside your door, and you don't need a car for the first few days. Hotels here range from $120/night at Pacific Islands Club to $500/night at The Tsubaki Tower.

If your budget caps at $100/night, Tamuning is the honest choice. Garden Villa in the Harmon area gives you decent rooms, easy access to Route 8, and about a 20-minute taxi ride to Tumon Beach for around $12. Don't book Dededo thinking you'll pop to the beach daily. it doesn't work that way.

How to beat Guam's resort fee trap

Resort fees in Tumon Bay can add $25-45 per night to your bill. We've seen this mistake hundreds of times: someone books a $130 room, then checks out paying $175. Always ask for the total rate including taxes and fees before confirming. The Hyatt Regency and Westin on Tumon Bay are the most transparent. others, less so.

Booking directly with the hotel often gets the fee waived or reduced, especially in low season from August-October. Call the front desk on Pale San Vitores Road directly rather than going through a third-party platform. You'd be surprised how often a 5-minute phone call saves you $40/night.

Guam for divers and water sports people

Gun Beach off Gun Beach Road in northern Tumon is the go-to for snorkeling and shore diving. Guam Reef Hotel sits right there, literally a 3-minute walk from the entry point. The Blue Hole and Crevice dive sites are a 15-minute boat ride from most Tumon Bay operators.

Tumon Bay itself has calm, clear water most of the year. Depth Sports Center and Sea Creatures Guam both operate out of Tumon and offer two-tank dives from $80-110. Book your hotel in northern Tumon near Gun Beach Road rather than the southern Pale San Vitores end if early-morning dive boats are your priority.

Getting around Guam without getting ripped off

Taxis in Guam don't use meters in the traditional sense. fares are roughly set by route. Tumon to Hagåtña is $15-20. Tumon to the airport is $12-18. From Tumon to the south end near Umatac, budget $35-45 each way. Negotiate before you get in, always.

The Guam Mass Transit Authority buses run along Route 1 but frequency is low. sometimes 45-60 minutes between buses. For day trips to Ritidian Point Wildlife Refuge in Yigo or Talofofo Falls, a rental car from the airport ($35-55/day) is the only realistic option. Several Tumon Bay hotels have car rental desks in-lobby.

What to eat and where near your Tumon hotel

Chamorro Village in Hagåtña runs a Wednesday Night Market that's genuinely worth the trip. kelaguen, red rice, shrimp patties, all under $10 per plate. It's about 15 minutes by taxi from Tumon Bay. Skip the hotel buffets on Wednesday nights; nothing on property beats the market.

Back in Tumon, the Pleasure Island section of Pale San Vitores Road has solid options beyond the chain restaurants. Pika's Cafe near the Hyatt is a local favorite for breakfast, and the night market vendors near Ypao Beach Park on weekends are far cheaper than anything resort-facing. A full meal runs $8-15 per person.

When to book and when to avoid Guam

The Christmas-New Year window (December 20. January 5) is the hardest and most expensive time to find a room in Tumon Bay. Japanese Golden Week in late April and Korean Chuseok in September-October also spike demand fast. Book at least 3 months out for those windows, and expect to pay peak rates of $200-500/night across Tumon.

Typhoon season runs roughly July-November. That doesn't mean you can't travel then. many typhoons miss Guam entirely. but travel insurance is non-negotiable if you book August or September. The upside: hotel rates in Tumon drop 20-35% during this window, and shoulder weeks in October can be genuinely great value.

Explore Guam by city

We cover 2 destinations across Guam. Pick a city for a dedicated hotel guide with neighborhoods, seasonal tips, and our vetted picks.

Guam's best hotel regions

Tumon Bay is where most visitors should be. It's got the beach access, the dining, and the walkable strip along Pale San Vitores Road. If you're on a tighter budget, Tamuning and Dededo are viable, but don't pretend you're staying near the water.

Tumon Bay 7 vetted hotels

Guam's main resort strip. Beach access, dining, and nightlife all within walking distance.

Tumon Bay is where the bulk of Guam's tourism infrastructure lives, and for good reason. Pale San Vitores Road runs parallel to the beach, lined with hotels, restaurants, and shops. You're never more than a 10-minute walk from the water, and the main tourist attractions. Two Lovers Point, Ypao Beach Park, Underwater World. are all close.

Hotels here range dramatically. Pacific Islands Club starts at $120/night and caters heavily to families with its on-site water facilities. The Tsubaki Tower at the top end charges $300-500/night and delivers on it. Seven of our 10 vetted hotels sit in this corridor, which tells you everything about where the quality is concentrated.

One thing worth knowing: the northern end of Tumon near Gun Beach Road has a noticeably different feel from the polished resort strip further south. It's quieter, slightly cheaper, and popular with divers. If the main resort-row buzz isn't your thing, Gun Beach Road is Tumon without the crowds.

Best areas Pale San Vitores Road, Gun Beach Road
Price range $120-500/night
Best for Beach access, couples, families, divers
Avoid Rooms facing Route 14. traffic noise is real
Best months February-April

Tamuning (Harmon Area) 1 vetted hotel

Affordable and central, but you're trading beach access for budget savings.

Tamuning sits just south of Tumon, straddling Route 1 and Route 8. It's not a beach destination. the coastline here is less accessible than Tumon Bay. But the Harmon area has solid infrastructure: grocery stores, local restaurants, and easy highway access if you're renting a car.

Garden Villa Hotel is our vetted pick here at $75-110/night. It's a genuine best-value option for people who want a clean, comfortable base without paying Tumon Bay resort prices. The trade-off is a 15-20 minute taxi ride to the main beach at Ypao.

Tamuning works best as a base if you're spending most of your time exploring the island rather than lounging on a hotel beach. The Chamorro Village night market in Hagåtña is 10 minutes south by car, and the airport is under 10 minutes. Practical, not glamorous.

Best areas Harmon, Route 8 corridor
Price range $75-110/night
Best for Budget travelers, car renters, short stays
Avoid Rooms directly on Route 1. heavy truck traffic at night
Best months Year-round for budget travelers
Browse all Tamuning (Harmon Area) hotels →
Dededo (Micronesia Mall Area) 1 vetted hotel

Guam's most affordable beds, but expect nothing fancy and no beach.

Dededo is northern Guam's largest village, centered around Micronesia Mall on Route 1. It's suburban, utilitarian, and cheap. Micronesia Mall Hotel is the only option we vetted here, and at $55-85/night it's the most affordable on our list by a clear margin.

You're about 25 minutes by car from Tumon Bay. That's not unworkable if you have a rental, but it's a long way from the beach for daily visits. The upside: Ritidian Point Wildlife Refuge is only 15 minutes north, and the Dededo Flea Market on weekends is a genuinely good local experience.

Be honest with yourself before booking here. If you're spending most of your time on Guam's beaches or the Tumon Bay strip, the extra $50-70/night for a Tumon hotel is worth it. Dededo makes sense for budget travelers who are island-hopping or spending more time inland.

Best areas Micronesia Mall corridor, Route 1 north
Price range $55-85/night
Best for Budget travelers, Ritidian Point visitors
Avoid Back streets east of Route 1 at night
Best months Year-round for budget travelers

Gun Beach Road (Northern Tumon) 1 vetted hotel

Quieter, diver-friendly, and a touch more local than the main Tumon strip.

Gun Beach Road branches off toward the coast from the northern end of Tumon Bay. It's technically still Tumon, but the vibe is distinct from the polished Pale San Vitores resort corridor. Fewer tour buses, more serious beach people and divers.

Guam Reef Hotel is positioned here at $130-195/night, and the beach access is legitimately excellent. Gun Beach itself is one of Guam's better snorkeling spots, accessible on foot in under 5 minutes from the hotel. The Blue Hole dive site is a short boat ride away.

If Two Lovers Point is on your list, it's about an 8-minute drive north from Gun Beach Road. The southern end of Tumon's resort strip. Lotte, Hyatt, Westin. is a 10-minute walk south. You get the location without being fully in the resort-row scrum.

Best areas Gun Beach Road, northern Tumon shoreline
Price range $130-195/night
Best for Divers, snorkelers, couples wanting quiet
Avoid Assuming you can walk everywhere. southern Tumon is 15+ minutes on foot
Best months February-May, November

How We Vetted These Hotels

Every hotel on this list went through the same evaluation. Here's exactly how we score them.

We reviewed 8,000+ options across the main regions of Guam. A huge chunk got cut immediately: properties advertising 'ocean view' when the ocean is a 20-minute drive away, Tumon hotels charging luxury prices with budget-motel upkeep, and guesthouses near Agana that look nothing like their listing photos. We also cut anything with consistent complaints about noise from Route 1 traffic, broken AC in a tropical climate, or front desks that charge resort fees without disclosing them upfront. What's left are 10 properties we'd actually send a friend to.

40%

Location Quality

Is the neighborhood walkable? Are restaurants, shops, and attractions within 10 minutes on foot? How does it feel after dark? We evaluate safety, public transport access, and whether the area has genuine local character or just tourist traps. A hotel in the wrong neighborhood ruins a trip. That's why location carries the most weight.

30%

Value for Money

We compare what you pay against what you get. A €150 hotel with a great location, clean rooms, and helpful staff can outscore a €500 hotel with fancy amenities in a bad area. We factor in seasonal pricing, cancellation policies, and hidden costs like tourist tax and breakfast surcharges. The goal is finding the best ratio, not the lowest price.

30%

Guest Experience

We analyze thousands of verified guest reviews across multiple platforms, looking for patterns rather than individual complaints. Consistent praise for cleanliness, staff, and room quality counts. We also assess the intangibles: does the hotel have character? Would you recommend it to a friend? A soul-less chain hotel with perfect facilities still loses to a well-run boutique with personality.

Hotels that score below 8.0 don't make our list. Hotels can't pay for placement. We update scores every quarter based on new reviews. If a hotel's quality drops, it gets removed. Read more about our approach on the about page.

When to Visit Guam: Season by Season

Hotel prices, crowds, and weather vary dramatically. Here's what to expect each season.

Peak

Peak Season (Dec-Jan)

Avg hotel: $200-500/nightCrowds: HighTemp: 25-29°C

Japanese and Korean holiday travelers flood Tumon Bay from December 20 through early January, pushing Lotte and Tsubaki Tower to near-capacity. Expect rates at top-end Tumon hotels to hit $400-500/night. Book at least 3 months out or pay the premium.

Warming Up

Shoulder Season (May-Jul)

Avg hotel: $100-220/nightCrowds: Low-ModerateTemp: 27-31°C

Heat and humidity start climbing in May, hitting 30-31°C by July. Korean visitors pick up during summer break, creating mini-spikes around late July. Mid-range Tumon hotels like Outrigger and Guam Reef sit at $130-195/night during this window, which is solid value.

Budget Friendly

Typhoon Season (Aug-Nov)

Avg hotel: $75-180/nightCrowds: LowTemp: 27-30°C

Typhoon risk is real from August through October. That said, most storms miss Guam entirely, and October in particular often delivers clear skies and bargain rates. How to Book Hotels in Guam

Smart booking strategies that save money without sacrificing quality.

Don't confuse 'Tumon adjacent' with 'Tumon Bay'

Several hotels list themselves as Tumon when they're actually east of Route 14 or in Tamuning. Check the actual address against Google Maps before booking. Anything more than a 12-minute walk to the beach strip on Pale San Vitores Road is not walkable beach access, no matter what the listing says.

Book December-January at least 90 days out

Japanese Golden Week aside, the Christmas-New Year window is the hardest booking period on Guam. Tumon Bay top-tier hotels like Hyatt and Tsubaki Tower sell out 2-3 months ahead. If you wait until 30 days out, you're either paying 40% above base rate or settling for Dededo.

Call the hotel directly about resort fees

Guam has a real resort fee problem. Some Tumon Bay properties tack on $25-45/night in 'facility fees' that don't show on third-party booking sites until checkout. Call the front desk directly, get the all-in nightly rate confirmed by name, and ask them to note it on your reservation. This single step has saved guests $100+ per trip.

Rent a car for at least 2 days of your trip

The Guam Mass Transit Authority buses are unreliable for tourism. think 45-60 minutes between routes. Rentals run $35-55/day from the airport in Barrigada. Use those 2 days for the south loop: Talofofo Falls, Fort Nuestra Señora de la Soledad in Umatac, and Cocos Island access from Merizo. You won't regret it.

Time your typhoon-season booking with a weather window

If you want typhoon-season prices ($75-180/night across the board) without the typhoon stress, target late October or early November. Statistically those are the calmest weeks of the season on Guam, and hotels haven't yet raised rates back to dry-season levels. Always buy comprehensive travel insurance. cancellation coverage should include weather events.

The Wednesday Night Market beats any hotel dinner

Chamorro Village on Marine Drive in Hagåtña runs its night market every Wednesday from around 6pm. A full meal of red rice, kelaguen, and grilled meats runs $10-15 per person. It's 15 minutes by taxi from Tumon Bay, about $15-18 each way. Skip whatever your hotel's Wednesday dinner special is and go here instead.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hotels in Guam

Straight answers from our team after reviewing hotels across Guam.

What's the best area to stay in Guam?

Tumon Bay is the answer for most people. Pale San Vitores Road runs right through it, with restaurants, shops, and direct beach access all within a 10-minute walk. Gun Beach Road is quieter and slightly cheaper, good if you want Tumon's location without the full resort-row noise. Avoid booking anything in Dededo if beach access matters to you. it's 25 minutes from the water by car.

How much does a hotel in Guam cost per night?

Budget options in Dededo and Tamuning run $55-85/night. Mid-range Tumon Bay hotels like Outrigger or Lotte sit at $150-230/night. Luxury at Dusit Thani or The Tsubaki Tower starts at $260 and easily hits $500/night in peak season around December-January.

When is the best time to visit Guam?

December through April is dry season and the most comfortable weather, with temperatures around 24-28°C. Hotel prices peak from late December through mid-January when Japanese and Korean tourist arrivals spike. February and March hit the sweet spot: good weather, thinner crowds, and Tumon Bay hotel rates dropping 15-25% compared to January.

Is Tumon Bay worth the higher hotel prices?

Yes, if beach access and walkability matter to you. You're 5 minutes on foot from Ypao Beach Park and the main strip on Pale San Vitores Road has everything you need without a rental car. Mid-range rooms here start around $120/night at Pacific Islands Club, which is genuinely decent value compared to similar beachfront properties across the Pacific.

Do I need a car in Guam?

If you're staying in Tumon Bay, you can survive without one. The Pale San Vitores strip is walkable and taxis from Tumon to Hagåtña run about $15-20. But if you want to see Ritidian Point, Talofofo Falls, or the south end of the island near Umatac, a rental car is essential. public bus service (the Guam Mass Transit Authority) is limited and infrequent.

Are Guam hotels family-friendly?

Pacific Islands Club on Tumon Bay is the standout for families, with its own water park and multiple pools on-site. Most Tumon Bay hotels have kids' pools and are within a 10-minute walk of the beach. Avoid booking in Tamuning near Route 16 with young kids. the traffic noise and lack of walkable attractions make it a frustrating base.

What's the best luxury hotel in Guam?

The Tsubaki Tower holds the highest rating on our list at 9.2, with rooms from $300/night. Dusit Thani is a close second at $260-420/night and arguably has the edge on beach positioning along Tumon Bay. Both are on or just off Pale San Vitores Road, so you're never more than a 5-minute walk from the water.

Is Guam safe for tourists?

Generally yes. Tumon Bay is well-lit, heavily visited, and has a strong tourist-facing infrastructure. The areas around Dededo's back streets and parts of central Agana near Route 1 are less polished. not dangerous, but not somewhere to wander alone at night. Stick to the Tumon strip and you'll have zero issues.

What's the cheapest decent hotel in Guam?

Micronesia Mall Hotel in Dededo starts at $55/night and is the most affordable option on our list. It's near Micronesia Mall on Route 1, which has every chain restaurant you'd need, but it's not a beach hotel. Garden Villa Hotel in Tamuning's Harmon area is a step up at $75-110/night and closer to the action.

How far is Tumon Bay from Guam's airport?

Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport in Barrigada is about 10-15 minutes by car from Tumon Bay hotels. A taxi runs $12-18 depending on traffic. Most Tumon Bay resorts offer shuttle service. call ahead because some charge $8-10 for it while others include it.

Are there hidden resort fees at Guam hotels?

Yes, and this is a real issue. Several Tumon Bay properties charge daily resort fees of $25-45 on top of the room rate. facilities fees, amenity fees, whatever they're calling it this month. Always confirm the all-in nightly rate before booking. The Lotte Hotel and Hyatt Regency are the most upfront about their fee structures on their booking pages.

What neighborhoods should I avoid when booking?

Skip hotels on the inland side of Route 1 in Dededo if you care about atmosphere. it's strip-mall suburbia. Parts of Tamuning near the Harmon Industrial area aren't ideal either. Anything listed as 'Tumon adjacent' that's actually east of Route 14 is not within walking distance of Tumon Bay, no matter what the listing says.
